“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”
Those words changed my life, and not for the better.
They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.
After being charged with a string of offences–and made an example of by my political minded father–I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.
Hate.
Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully … one thing on my mind.
Hate.
Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.
Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.
HATE is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one of four in the series.more
WOW!! I think I just found my new favorite book! This book has everything I love in a dark RH! Hot AF badass guys with tattoos, alphahole, possessive, jealous, sexy as hell, daddy issues, stalking, murder, UFC (I love mma/UFC)…I mean good hell! This book has kept me enthralled the whole way through and I couldn’t put it down. Very well written from beginning to the end…perfect character development! I felt like I was in MK’s world! On to LIAR!
I really didn’t know what to think in regards to who to trust here and this definitely kept you guessing throughout. I’ve read this author before so had high expectations as I really enjoyed the other stuff I’ve read by them previously and this didn’t disappoint either.
It’s a slow-burn reverse harem new-adult romance with suspenseful elements. It’s focuses on Maddison Kate who on the anniversary of her mother’s murder Halloween finds herself in a bit of a predicament that ends in her being arrested on fabricated charges and then later shipped off to her aunts. This is also the night she encounters gang members Kodiak Steele and Archer who she believes are the key orchestrators of her downfall now back home in shadow grove MK finds all three living in her father’s house a fact she’s absolutely livid about. She obviously doesn’t trust them and all her explosive venom is aimed in their direction she vows to make their existence a nightmare but finds herself equally drawn to them as well.
This is told completely from MK’s POV and the boys are very secretive and evasive in there explanations so you are kept wondering. The chemistry here is explosive and that side of things is definitely warming up. Our girl is fighting a losing battle when it comes to these three boys and there sexual magnetism she just can’t seem to help herself where there concerned.
The only other major character here was the best friend Bree and got to say I was not a fan not only did she hang her bestie out to dry which was so not cool. She later comes across as very shady indeed. I really don’t trust her at all I can’t quite put my finger on it but there is most definitely something really off about her. It also really peed me off how everyone here let Maddison carry the can I mean literally nobody stood up for her and don’t even get me started on her waste of space useless father he’s not winning any daddy awards anytime soon that’s for sure.
This really was an easy page-turner that kept my attention. I have no idea who MK’s stalker might be and I’m very I intrigued to learn more and discover their identity. The finish here was especially gripping I think we learnt more in this short period than all the rest of the book combined and that ending man that was good I’m totally hooked now and definitely recommend this if you like this particular genre this was a fabulous start to the series.

I’m intrigued, but not yet convinced. I potentially want to see where this goes.
Madison Kate is your typical badass heroine, who is nothing of the sort. It drives me crazy when a character is pretty much portrayed that way, although it wasn’t very blatant with this character. I just want them to live up to the hype. She makes dumb decisions that she says are dumb decisions, yet does them anyway. She is supposed to be able to hold her own, but a chick literally slapped her and she did nothing and continued to do nothing whenever that girl came around and kept fucking with her. Madison Kate also pulls pranks on the guys to get back at them for putting her in jail, but they are weak. One is maybe good, but failed miserably.
What I did like were the guys Archer, Steele, and Kodiak. They are assholes at times, but the relationship dynamic with Madison Kate piqued my interest. I want to like all the guys, but we just don’t learn enough about them individually for me to definitively have any sort of feelings for them. I ping ponged between whichever one was all up on Madison Kate at the time. I’d prefer to like one over the other or them all. But we’ll see.
Overall a three star read for me because it did keep my interest throughout the story. So that’s why its not a two star book. Hate is in no way perfect and has a ton of flaws with stereotypical plots and characters. At times I liked it and didn’t care and others I didn’t care for it. I am not ashamed to admit I’m in this one for the mystery, drama, and sexy times with each of the boys. The story will either get worse for me or improve. We shall see.
So good!
The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration:
Romance:
Heat/Steam:
Story/Plot:
World building:
Character development:
The heroine: Madison Kate Danvers – her father is one of the most influential people in town. MK goes to an illegal fight in the big top of a closed amusement park when shots were heard. A girl was trampled in the crowd and MK was framed for stealing the key and letting everyone into the big top on what is now known as “riot night”.
The Hero(es): Archer D’Ath (a.k.a. blue eyes) – he was fighting in the illegal fight at the big top. He basically delivered MK to the cops that night. He is also half brother to Zane D’Ath who murdered MK’s mom when she was 11 years old and locked in a closet 20 feet away.
Max Steele (a.k.a. grey eyes) – he could play concert piano but hasn’t decided if he wants to yet. He and the other two guys are part time models. He works on cars in the garage in his spare time
Kodak “Kody” James (a.k.a. green eyes) – Gave MK the hoodie with the key to the big top which made her look like the guilty party. He is now a personal trainer to the stars and has the body to match.
The Story: Madison is framed for the events that happened at the Laughing Clown on riot night. She is put in jail and put on trial, though eventually the charges are dropped and her father sends her away to live with an aunt until things die down. M.K. returns to find out the three guys that framed her are now living in her father’s new house and her father goes away on vacation without waiting for her to get home.
I loved the narration in this one. It was done by Brooke Daniels and Lucas Webley. Brook Daniels voice reminded me of character actress Samaire Armstrong who has been in a ton of movies and TV shows. She has a very pretty voice which is perfect for Madison Kate. Lucas Webley has a nice deep voice which I enjoyed which he made even deeper for Steele.
I had been saving the Madison Kate series for when I had a lot of free time because I knew I’d fly through them – I have to say I’m glad I did! They totally lived up to the bookstagram hype!
Madison Kate Danvers comes back to Shadow Grove after a year away and things have changed. She’s living with three of the guys she hates most and blames for her getting sent away, her father is uninterested in being around her and everyone in town is confused by her reappearance. Archer D’Ath, Kodiak Jones and Max Steele have invaded her space, her thoughts and basically every part of her life. Archer is surly and closed off, Kody is flirtatious and wonderful and Steele is a sweetheart with so much hidden darkness. With so many things up in the air, I’m hesitant to declare a favorite, but Kody and Steele are vying for my top spot!
I know that their lack of communication about what happened on Halloween a year ago is part of the plot, but it was incredibly frustrating that MK hates the guys but didn’t give them a chance to explain anything and didn’t ask any questions. She spends so much of her time thinking up and executing childish revenge plots, but doesn’t actually take the time to get to the bottom of the problems she has with the guys. Kody and Steele do a lot to make her feel comfortable and get back into her good graces, but Archer’s grumpiness threatens to derail all their hard work at every turn.
This book has a lot of things in it – gangs, violence, mystery, stalkers, MMA fighting, steam and a lot more. There’s a little bit of something for everyone, but it ends in a cliffhanger, so reader beware! Can’t wait to dive into book 2 ASAP!
When I first found this book, I didn’t think it was gonna be for me (jokes on me, haha). This was my first RH and will forever be my favorite! The twists and unexpectedness throughout the entire book was so good! The ending had me gripping the book way too tight but it was so worth it!! Go read!
I love the uniqueness of this story. The characters are familiar tropes, but the storyline grabbed me and held on. I loved this whole series.
I’ve seen this book being recommended all over social media, so I took a chance and downloaded it. WOW! I’m surprised as to how much I liked this one! It’s dark, gritty, suspenseful, and badass! I didn’t care for the massive cliffhanger but thankfully this series is complete, so I don’t have to wait to see what happens next. I already download Liar and will be reading it just as soon as I finish up my next two reads. I’m really excited! Probably more excited than I’ve been in a long time when it comes to a romance novel especially because this is also a reverse harem… Something I never thought I would like. I’ll admit, it doesn’t FEEL like a reverse harem at the moment, but I’m interested to see where the romantic aspects go from here.
So, let’s talk about the plot. This is an enemies-to-lovers romance because Madison Kate and the boys have a pretty heated past seeing as she thinks they set her up and sent her to jail. And then when she’s finally able to go home after being sent to Cambodia for a year she doesn’t expect for these three to be taking up residence in her home. Who would, right? But things get a little more electric because the attraction to all three is undeniable. She may not like them, but she can’t help but get all tingly when they’re nearby. What’s a girl to do? Unfortunately for her, that’s not the only issue she’s facing. She also has a stalker, the three men she’s hated for over a year are making their way into her heart, and there’s something bad brewing in Shadow Grove. Madison Kate is in for much more than she bargained for in all facets of her life and towards the end of the novel… Well, it seems like the evil that’s been brewing is coming straight for her.
The cliffhanger at the end is MENICING and my jaw literally DROPPED. As I mentioned above though I’m so glad this series is finished because I don’t think I could wait long to see what is going to happen… I think many readers will agree!
If you enjoy a darker new adult, college romance with an enemies-to-lovers trope and a reverse harem relationship then I recommend this one. I’m so glad I took a chance on this one and looking forward to the next one!

This book was amazing! I love all of the characters and the backstop that began to tease me towards the end. On to the next book!
I love this series all ready! Madison Kate is so strong and I love how she doesn’t back down and doesn’t take crap from anyone. The guys are all amazing and I know they all care for her in there own way and just don’t know how to show it. I can’t wait to see what Tate James has in store for MK and her guys.
What a rush!! That ending had my heart racing and on the verge of tears. I’m officially obsessed with this series! Great writing, great story! Can’t wait to see where Tate James takes us in book 2!
Hate by Tate James was my first reverse harem and I was WAY out of my comfort zone with this one! It’s definitely not my favorite thing and were this a stand-alone, I honestly don’t know if I would read another one. The author does warn you before going in, so I knew what I was getting into.

However…the plot sucked me in and now I need to see what happens! u2063

Madison Kate finds herself in a sticky situation one night after a party and is saved by 3 guys she doesn’t know. When they leave her to wait for a ride, she’s picked up by the police and feels like it was a set-up. She’s charged and eventually released but goes to stay with her aunt for a year. She comes back home to find the same 3 guys living in her father’s house and she begins planning her revenge.u2063

Throw in a stalker and the fact her mother was murdered years before and you’ve got the makings of a suspense/thriller and that was it for me. It ends with a cliffhanger, but luckily, I’m late to this series, so they’re all out. I just need to squeeze them into my schedule.u2063

So, the reverse harem trope…not my thing. But I will absolutely be sticking around for the rest of Madison Kate’s story!u2063

Madison Kate’s story drew me in from the very beginning! From the crazy action & drama beginning to end, with some seriously protective guys thrown in the mix, this is one you’ll definitely want to read. Tate James has created a world full of intrigue, gangs, and secrets with a cliffhanger to die for.
Steele and Kody are my guys in this one and Archer’s alpha attitude can shove it most of the time although it’s pretty hilarious inside MK’s mind when she’s trying to think up revenge plots against the guys to get them back for Riot Night. This stalker business is also creepy as heck. Can’t wait to see more in Liar.
Damn, this was so suspenseful I kept holding my breath. I must say I love Maddison Kate but she tends to act first and slightly irrationally. She’s got a chip on her shoulder as wide as the Grand Canyon and enough attitude and mischief to back it up. All the build up to the revelations was well worth the read and that ending, I need to get a hold of book two ASAP! I will be patiently counting down to that if you couldn’t tell that was my way of saying I one million percent recommend this read!
Did I ever mention that I love books that have HATE sex in them??? haha…well I do…OMGahhhh I will just leave it at that!!! lmao
Sooo this is another read that I found off of BookTok and I absolutely loved it!!! Smooooken HAWT!!!
New Author to me and I definitely can not wait to read the rest of these books in the series!!! I am sooo freaking glad they are all out…well that I know of..haha cuz book one ends in one hell of a cliffy!!!
Okay..now onto the second book in the series~Liar….see y’all laterssss!!!
I have read the Royals of Arbon Academy series and the Dark Legacy series that were co-written with Jaymin Eve. Both of these are in my top 10 favorite series. I have been putting the MK series off until complete, but I have no idea why I did not read this sooner! This book sucked me in from the very beginning.
Halloween night turned Madison Kate’s life upside down when she was framed by Archer, Kody, & Steele for a crime at The Laughing Clown. After being acquitted, she shipped off to Cambodia to live with her Aunt. When she makes her way back to Shadow Grove, she is in for the shock of a lifetime when she realizes that the guys that framed her all live under her father’s roof.
MK is a sarcastic bitch, and I wouldn’t change a thing about her. She doesn’t listen to the guys, in fact, most times she does the opposite. Archer is always trying to control every situation with his BDE, and it just pisses MK off. Kody is flirtatious and fun loving, while Steele tends to be more on the sweet side. MK has a plan to get revenge, but she starts giving in to the attraction she feels towards them.
Halloween night rolls around and it marks the one year anniversary of Riot Night. MK wants to go home, but the guys push her to go out with them. Everything comes to a head with them and MK takes off on her own and ends up back at The Laughing Clown.
Anyway, without giving too much away MK gets hurt, MK is sorta saved, and then you are thrown off a giant cliff. Thanks, Tate!
I should have expected that, I should have known better, I KNEW IT WAS COMING, I have seen enough WTF, TATE?!?!? comments in The Fox Hole to know that Tate is the QUEEN of cliffhangers. !
If you are looking for a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat…this is it!! Start to finish, with no in-betweens, this book will hold you captive and not let go!
Madison Kate, what a strange twist of fate. This chick not only gets stuck with the ones who framed her but has to deal with unprecedented truths…or is it lies? Her main goal was just to pursue a higher education, but apparently that was still too much to ask for. Certain truths are revealed and some bigger mysteries arise. But who exactly is to blame for all the mishaps and wrongdoings and–murder? Is there such a thing as a shady bf? Is the past coming to haunt the future? And what exactly are Archer, Kody and Steele really hiding? Those boys have more secrets than area 51, it seems. Let’s not forget daddy dearest, the man more ghost than a parent. And gang wars? This story just seems to have it all. Too many unknowns with a bigger story waiting to be dug up.
Can’t wait to get my hands on the next one!
So much intrigue, so much angst, so totally 5 stars! Hate was everything you’d ask for in an enemies to lovers read. It had ALL the feels and so much more. Not to mention the steamy hotness! Well written plot with a lot of depth to each of the characters. A little mystery and mayhem round out this amazing story. BUT beware the incredible cliffy…good thing I don’t have to wait to read book 2 or I think it would drive me crazy!! Highly recommend this one!!!
So. Much. Plot! Prepare to be on the edge of your seat from start to finish! It is a reverse harem & is sooo well written. MK is no damsel in distress & is first to let anyone know she takes no shit. This was my first RH I’d ever read & I circle back to reread often!
Wow! This book was insanely good! Yes, there are a lot of books that better written but overall James has talent. I was gripped from the first to the last page! And that cliffhanger. I went ahead and already got the rest of the series. This we most likely be the same rating for all the books, if they are anything like this first book.
