I never thought my perp walk would lead to true love. Then again, I never thought I’d be arrested on RICO charges and hauled away in zip ties on camera for the world to see, minutes after closing the most amazing deal of my career. And all of it in front of my biggest rival, billionaire wunderkind Ian McCrory.I am broke.I am disgraced.I am alone.I am a sucker. But the worst part? I have to go back … am a sucker.
But the worst part? I have to go back to my hometown and live in my bedroom filled with relics from my childhood.
Lisa Frank never made me so mad before.
Just when I needed a rescue, I got one — in the form of help from my biggest rival.
He can’t bring back my money.
He certainly can’t bring back my reputation or my pride.
But there’s one thing he can bring back to me.
A sense of hope.
Maybe even love.
Ian sees something in me no one else does, and he’s relentless about making me see it, too. As we grow closer, I’m starting to see that while my entire life used to be a lie, the truth is staring me in the present — and it’s a truth I like very, very much, hot eyes and gorgeous smile and all.
But I have to be careful.
I can’t be too —
That’s right.
Hasty.
The final book in the USA Today bestselling Do-Over Series (Fluffy, Perky, Feisty), as Mallory’s sister, Hastings “Hasty” Monahan gets her turn at a happily ever after that starts off with an arrest.
Hers.
And ends with a surprisingly cheesy happily ever after.
more
Hastings Monahan has been a royal Bit$$ to her sister, Mallory and Mallory’s friends in her previous appearance in the series. Yet karma or fate have a way of humbling and tumbling the high and mighty. Although! I must say Hastings tumble was extremely public and extremely embarrassing when the Feds arrest her on RICO charges. Enter Ian McCrory, a Billionaire, and her biggest rival, and Hastings demise is complete.
After returning to her hometown, and her childhood bedroom, Hasty, as she hates to be called, is at her lowest point. After hitting complete rock bottom, the arrest and the dissolving of her ‘marriage’ to Burke, Hastings eventually regroups and finds a path to her new and improved self.
When all is said and done, let me tell you what I loved about this book:
Rivals to lovers
Humbling of an arrogant, bitchy heroine
A heroine rediscovering her core/authentic self
Re-establishing good family relationships
Making new friends
Typical Julia Kent laugh out loud moments
Finally, a true happy ever after.
What a great closing book to a wonderful series. Read the series from the beginning, it’s much better that way.
The book starts out with the building of the characters Hastings and Ian. Their personalities are rich in details. This love hate relationship is building and I could feel the culmination coming.
I think my favorite part was reading Hastings personality change from a really cut-throat corporate shark to a really caring person. Sometimes you just have to go back to your roots and she goes all the way back when she loses everything.
The ending was a twist I didn’t see coming, but I won’t spoil it.
This is book four of the Do Over series and it features Hasty. You can read this as a standalone, but the characters from the previous books play important roles in this book and it does giveaway who each of the girls and up with in their own HEA. I fully recommend reading the entire series from book one and to end with Hasty.
I will admit, I sure wanted to slap Hasty in the previous books. She acted like her s@@t came out always smelling like roses and that she was so much better than everyone else. Well, the high and mighty Hasty was on top of the world in her career and even most of her personal life…..that was until the Feds showed up and handcuffed her and took her away. The worst part of being arrested is that this situation happened right in front of her career rival named Ian. Hasty finds out all the wrong her “husband”, Burke has done behind her back. She is innocent, but since the scheme her husband ran is so huge, the media posts it e everywhere. The humiliation is horrible and after the Feds take her house, money and most of her possessions, Hasty has no choice but to move back home with her parents. That is where Hasty learns to face her past and find away to start a new future. She learns a lot about herself with the help of her sister and her friends and let me tell you…..most of what Hasty realized about herself is not always good. Through her self discovery, one person keeps showing up and that is the biggest surprise and the most confusing part because why does Ian want to spend so much time with Hasty.
This is a great book to watch the Hasty have her whole life call apart, but the best part is to watch the people around her support and encourage Hasty to rebuild herself and maybe even find true love this time. This book is Hasty’s life Do Over and it’s a great last book in this series. Order it now and I hope you enjoy it just as I have.
5 star review Hasty (Do-Over #4) by Julia Kent
This is the fourth and I believe final book in the Do_Over series from Julia Kent and she certainly ended the series well. As with previous books I have read by Julia Kent, Hasty was well written with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in.
This is Hastings Monohan’s story and as I have not warmed to her in the previous books I was interested to see how her story panned out. I have to say that Ms.Kent turned my opinion of her around with a story that had me riveted from the first to the last chapter.
Hasty has reached the pinnacle of success but what happens when it all comes crashing down around her suddenly and she is left with nothing? Forced to return home to Anderville, Mass, Ian McCrory is more than happy to help her get back on her feet, the only question is whether Hasty will let him?
For Ian, he knows there is more to Hasty than she has shown and he is determined to help her be all she can be. I loved Ian, he is totally swoon worthy and ticked the boxes for me. It was truly heart warming to watch the growth and journey Hasty goes through.
There was humour as you would expect from a book written by Julia Kent but there was so much more to this book and I happily recommend it.
The last of this series and my favorite. Coming back from adversity, being at the top of your game and loosing it all, makes for a level playing field. Throw in the past, competition, sister, her friends, family and the conman Is the “never-husband” (Love that word). We also have cow birthing, sheep milk and bunny garden, this book has it all. Awesome ending to the series and a sweet read. Enjoy!
My mark of a great writer is one who can totally change my mind about a character that I don’t like, to one that I admire. Julie Kent masterfully accomplishes this feat in this book about the rise and fall of Hastings Monahan, Fluffy’s, aka Mallory’s, sister. When we first met Hastings at Mallory’s wedding dress fitting, she makes everyone in the wedding party feel they are beneath her social standing since they all stayed in their small town of Anderhill rather than branching out to a big city like San Francisco. She ends up with more than egg on her face when she’s forced to return home, penniless and humiliated, after suffering through a huge scandal caused by her husband. Unlike the other books in this series, this one spends a lot of necessary time watching Hastings try to (re)define herself outside of her once successful career in finance, which she must do before she can confront any type of relationship with our Hero, and her arch-rival, Ian McCrory. Our author takes her time rebuilding Hastings by having her repair relationships with her family and friends, especially with Mallory. Through their interactions, readers also see a deeper side of Mallory and her best friend Persephone (aka Perky), which normally doesn’t occur in series books not centered on their respective characters. I truly appreciated this additional insight as it provided greater depth to their relationships.
When Hastings finally opens the line of communication to Ian, the journey to their relationship is slow, then suddenly interrupted. The reasons become clear in the end, but will Hastings allow herself to choose the easy route or wait on her HEA? Loved the way this ended…I hope we get a novella somewhere down the line to see how Fluffy, Perky, Feisty and Hasty are doing 5 years from now!
The final book in the Do-Over series gives us Hasting’s story. Hasty has been at the top of the financial world for years and always though her sister settled staying in their home town. Hasty is sharp tongued and feels superior to her sister and her friends. Now her Perfect life is crumbling and she moves home and gets many reality checks. This has the usual sarcastic, funny banter as the rest of the series but is a little more serious. I love all the characters that are a part of this series, each bringing a different twist and attitude with them. I’m sad to say goodbye to them.
Hasty is truly the shining pinnacle of this fabulously outstanding series! Each beautiful friend who we connected with led us seamlessly to the next lady who needed some love in her life. We laughed, we cried, we cringed, and we cheered along with them. However, for this story, I was left stripped completely bare in that I related more to Hasty than the others. Also, her story was more disjointed and the connection was not as smooth or neat. We walked outside the box for her, and then eviscerated the box. We found ourselves in completely new terrain with this extraordinary story that will leave you smiling and with so much peace.
Hastings was always grasping for more. If she couldn’t work to obtain it, it wasn’t worth the time or effort to have. She was destined to rule the world, and her ambition got her higher then she ever thought possible. Then, like Icarius, she fell unceremoniously and painfully to the ground. Nothing was the same after that. Left reeling and trying to figure out what was left, she returned home to heal, to search, and to find. Then, the most unlikeliest of person walks into her life and turns it all upside down. She questions his motives, his pursuit and his heart. Can Hasty learn to live a life just for herself that isn’t steeping in life crushing competition, or will she finally be able to find a place to breathe, grow, and truly live?
I knew that Hastings would need someone who knew her inside and out to be able to break through her steely shell and show her that she was always a good person. She was just lead astray for a time. She couldn’t deny the truth from Ian no matter how hard she fought him. I love how he quietly pursued her while keeping her off balance the entire time. That is the only way he could make a place in her heart for them. He pushed with determination but with a gentle heart that never stopped cheering her on and helping her to move forward. He fought for their future just as much as she did. It was such a beautiful sight to behold!
Julia Kent will always be a writer who speaks to my heart on every level. She is a goddess with her gold standard of writing that excels and shines above others. You will never find anything mediocre about her incredible stories, her phenomenal characters, and her huge heart that is infused into each book she writes and sends out into the world. Her stories equals heart, laughs, and intensity that never has to apologize to anyone. They are truly life changing and stunning! Do not miss out on any of them!
The first three books of Julia Kent’s Do-Over series are filled with quirky, fun, lovable women—except for one: Hastings “Hasty” Monaghan, the mean, ridiculously successful, endlessly snarky older sister you can’t help but hate.
In her book, though, we finally see a side of Hastings that makes us appreciate not only who she is but what made her that way.
Hastings Monahan is a financial success. She has just signed the biggest deal of her career when her world is turned complete upside down, ending what should have been the best evening of her life in handcuffs instead of champagne. What does the girl on top do when she’s thrust, ever so inelegantly, straight to the very bottom?
“Semantics matter, Ian. Definitions matter. People matter. I think I lost sight of that at some point.”
Heading back home to Anderville, Mass with her tail between her legs, Hastings has to fight against who she was and how that person no longer meshes with who she can and should be. Her biggest supporter, the very charming and successful Ian McCrory, is more than willing to help her forge a path to success, but Hastings has to decide whether or not to accept the help or do it all on her own.
“Hasty” is a rewarding twist on a classic story—take your typical “rags to riches” plot line and flip it on its head. Add in the fact that for three books, Hasty was the character you loved to hate. While it was in some ways satisfying to see her get her due, it’s even more satisfying to grow along with her in her journey of becoming a better person.
What I love about Julia Kent’s writing is that it isn’t just sexy, funny, and contemporary; it’s smart. Amid humor and lightheartedness, there is a great deal of depth that is poignant but also refreshing.
All in all, “Hasty” was the perfect penultimate installment to this fantastic series.
Hasty is an entertaining book about Hastings Monohan, it really packs a punch and you really will feel for everything she goes through in her life! Its the 4th book in the Do Over series by the author.
I loved everything about this book! I loved how Hasty seems to become a better version of herself especially after what happens!
There is such great banter, some rather funny moments and friendships that kept a smile on my face as I read!
I often wondered how Ian McCrory knows where she is! His attempts to get close to her are rather funny and of course who could resist the billionaire gorgeous man! She tries her hardest but also has some things she has to come to terms with!
I definitely admired her tenacity to stand up for herself, she deserves someone who treasures her!
There was just so much to love about the whole storyline but I will say that you have to read it for yourself and devour this amazing enjoyable book!!
I have read all of the books in this series. But Hasty is by far my favorite. Being Mallory’s sister she has appeared before and I wondered just how Julia Kent was going to turn Hastings Monahan into a likeable character. The best thing is she didn’t really change her. Through a series of mishaps Hastings becomes a more all around person. With a lot of help from rival Ian McCrory, Hastings (don’t call her Hasty) learns to like herself a lot more. This was very well written, wonderful characters and a very believable story.
Hastings is Mallory’s sister, she is smart, successfull leading a whirlwind life in California with her husband Burke. One day when she reaches the pinnacle of success, it all comes tumbling down, her life has she knows it is over. Somehow her husband defrauded a lot of people and implcated her along with his scheme. Broken and defeated the only option she has is to return to her parents house and small town life. Hasty’s journey to redemption and enlightment has her struggling with herself and coming to some deep realizations about her past life and actions. Her only constant in this mess is Ian McCrory, ever present billionaire trying to help her with her new reality. A magnificent ending to this series, the girls will have you laughing out loud at their shenanigans and their caring souls come through the whole story. I volunteered to review this arc.
