Flynne Dortmann: computer specialist extraordinaire. The right arm of every agent in The Agency. And totally untrained for agent duty. When no one takes a threat seriously, Flynne does the only thing she can think of. With money she has no authorization to use, a gun she’s never fired in her hip pocket, and more zip-ties than any agent should be allowed to carry, Flynne takes on protective detail … takes on protective detail for an unwilling client. #HashtagRogue.
Mark Cho hasn’t had a chance to get used to being Marco Mendina—head of the Eastern US Agency. Not only that, every sign points to someone knowing he isn’t who he appears to be. His agency is in trouble. His agents may be in danger, and with an office girl gone rogue, deciding what problem to tackle first is a problem in itself.
Not to mention, he misses his office assistant with her emoji-speak, killer tech skills, and sharp instincts.

What I think you should know:
Hashtag Rogue is the fifth in The Agency Files Series. I would HIGHLY recommend that you read the prior books in the series to understand this book. It is set like the majority of the author, Chautona Havig’s books in the fictional Rockland. The Agency’s job is to protect people, but this time a former client may need to be protected from an agent.
What I could have done without:
While I loved Flynne and her spunky personality II could have left out tech / geek speak, it gave me a headache at times, however that is just my personal preference. Even with that I found myself cheering for Flynne.
What I enjoyed:
I always love catching up with old characters and enjoyed the story once again being Erica and Keith. With this series there is so much going on that I don’t recommend trying to read it quickly, I often find myself stopping and asking myself “What just happened”, but not in a bad way, in a WOW! I didn’t see that coming kind of way.
Who will enjoy this book just to name a few:
Fans of Suspense
Fans of Mysteries
Fans of Christian Fiction
I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
For a number of years now I have enjoyed reading books by Chautona Havig. The Agency File series has been among my favorites. Full of danger, intrigue, and Christian viewpoints, these books have caught my attention. So I was thrilled to read this latest installment that focuses on Flynn, office worker extraordinaire.
From her manners of speaking to her sometimes off the wall thinking, she is a character who demands your attention. When she believes the girlfriend of one of their agents is in danger, and her boss refuses to believe her, she goes off the rails and takes matters into her own hands. From a tranquilizer gun to duct tape and other somewhat unconventional means, she attempts to keep Erika safe despite Erika’s somewhat refusal.
Adding Tyler (Flynn’s boyfriend at The Agency) and Morgan (someone who becomes more than a friend during Flynn’s drastic attempts to keep Erika safe, just brings the story to life even more.
My one complaint about this book (as with most of Chauntona Havig’s books) is that it ended. I wanted to read more. This book raises a lot of unanswered questions about The Agency and who is targeting them.
There are so many unforgettable moments in this book, you need to check it out for yourself.
I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.
My thoughts on Hashtag Rogue:
I love Chautona Havig as an author and knew I’d love this book. It’s one of those that I couldn’t wait to start. So, as soon as I received my copy of the ebook to read I started reading book one in the series. I was not going to start the series before I had Hashtag Rogue because I knew it was supposed to be the final one in the series and I didn’t want to be left hanging.
Guys. I was left hanging! Seriously. I’m so indignant here. Such a great book but there is more that I need to know! And there are going to be three more books. Sort of an offshoot series but that follows the same characters and their paths. And I want those three now. Well actually several weeks ago, please.
Hashtag Rogue is amazing. The entire series is wonderful. I love the characters and their struggle with finding God, fighting with God, and knowing where the fine line between good and evil is.
This series is different than most of Chautona Havig’s work in that it is a mystery series. It does still have quite a bit of romance in there but the mystery and intrigue and suspense take center stage.
I’ve reviewed on GoodReads the first books of the series and this review will go over there as well if you’re interested in what I thought of the other books in the series.
Okay. But back to talking about Hashtag Rogue.
It’s amazing. I love Flynne! She’s kooky and she’s crazy but she’s also crazy smart with maybe not quite enough common sense. She goes all Hashtag Rogue. Well, she types it #hashtagrogue of course but it’s so fun. Her plan is non-existent but she wants to save Erika from what she fears is going to happen. And really she’s right she just didn’t know how to convince Mark that Erika needs their protection. . . again.
Erika knows more about how the protection detail is supposed to work than Flynne does. Should she help Flynne keep her safe or just run the first chance she gets? How can she get information to her boyfriend or to Mark and the Agency. Will she ever be safe again? After all, the general public think her boyfriend is dead but someone knows he’s alive.
But most importantly who is after Erika and why? What do they have to gain? And who is the mole? Someone inside the Agency is feeding someone else information and it might be time for everyone to take a break. Or is it?
And then the finale which isn’t a finale and I am ready to read the next books in one night!
I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next books to come out(if you haven’t heard me say that a few times already). Definitely, one I feel everyone will enjoy. Some great moments and Biblical truths are shared plus you learn a whole lot about self-defense and survival.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. LOL
This book was great!
I had never read a book by Chautona Havig before this one, so yay for me meeting a new author . I would say (unlike me) that with this series you need to start at the beginning, that way you understand what is going on. I would not recommend reading it as a standalone. Now that being said, the storyline was great. A unique twist on a Mission Impossible type book. Something I really enjoyed. At first I was a little lost because of the teen-speak one of the main characters uses but it grew on me (or I just started to understand it) by the middle of the book.
Where do I start? Flynn must be the most unique character I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. She is relentless in the pursuit of what she thinks to be right and so sassy! When a character is that sassy it makes me wonder about how fun the author is! Chautona Havig weaved many difficult topics into this mystery and with skill made all the twists and turns into a very believable ending. The descriptions Chautona Havig used when adding color to her characters made me burst out laughing, I so needed that. I loved, loved this book and I am truly glad I signed up to read it.
I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars for making me laugh, the colorful character (and their descriptions), and all the twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend reading this book; however, I would suggest that you read them in order. Now for me to go find the rest of the series….
I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
Let me get the biggest part of my opinion of the story out of the way. Flynne is by far the sassiest, one of a kind character I have ever read. Her own little quirky vibe is contagious. Not only is she smart but she has adapted this lingo that is so funny I rolled on the floor laughing. Okay maybe I didn’t roll on the floor but I did laugh out loud several times. This computer genius pulls off the coolest plan ever known. No one takes her serious when a threat comes in. The Flynne I have come to love does what most couldn’t. She risks everything to keep the person in danger safe.
Now I can’t say that she used common sense, or that she is good at the spy game but she has a good heart. Nothing will stop her from protecting Erika. The time these two women spend together is like a comedy show. At the root of the story is real danger that Flynne has put herself in. It is a cat and mouse game as people scramble to help Flynne while trying to catch whoever is plotting to harm Erika. I love how the author weaves faith throughout the story. Several characters question if God is real and finds themselves turning to Him when crisis hits. Isn’t it just like us to cry out for help but don’t acknowledge Him when we are content.
I like the intrigue in the book and the guessing game the author provides readers to figure out who is the real threat. The story weaves back and forth while enticing readers to follow an unlikely young woman who is all about keeping people safe while proving a point. I wonder why they didn’t take Flynne seriously? Could it be that they felt she wasn’t trained as an agent and was overreacting?
There are others characters in the story that are vital but I have focused on Flynne because her character is brilliantly written and is dedicated to her purpose. Never underestimate someone who feels in their gut that something is not right. God gives us those feelings as a warning and Flynne took it seriously.
The book has several scenarios that keep the story moving at a good place. Seems like the agency has several threats to investigate and people to protect. Will Flynne be able to pull off the riskiest mission in the agency? Can Erika learn to trust Flynne and know that God has everything under control? Oh the banter between Flynn and Erika is priceless as Erika says , ” Please, Lord. Make it stop. maybe I should find Brent Knupp and beg him to off me now.” Maybe Flynne is going a little overboard as she continues to outsmart the bad guy, but Erika is getting a bit unraveled. Hang on Erika, I’m sure help is on the way. If not, Flynne is there to save the day.
Get ready for a story that captures espionage at its best with characters that jump off the pages. It is an action packed ride with danger at every turn. The author hints at another story coming soon and I can’t wait to read it.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Hashtag Rogue, by Chautona Havig, is a very unique Christian Romantic Suspense novel. When her secret agent boss doesn’t act to protect a coworker, valley girl/teen slang slinger Flynne Dortmann acts solo. What a wild ride this is! At times I was confused, which I believe could have been avoided by reading previous books in the series. On the other hand, it is a good author who can weave a crooked trail to land a believable ending. Sometimes a narrative simply needs time to play out, when it all makes sense. I would say this book can stand alone on that premise.
Two things I do know. One is that I will be hunting down the rest of The Agency series.
The second? Chautona Havig can
allow real subject matter ( violence, swearing, gangs, human trafficking) in her books while still being very uplifting. Not only does Havig talk seamlessly about faith, but her real sound bites on swearing are hilarious. « A sailor’s dictionary of unsavory words flew at him… » and
« …until Mark had exhausted his supply of swearing— both foreign and domestic. » I doubled over from these descriptions as Havig creatively expressed her characters’ blue language.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit and the author. This did not affect my opinions, which are my own.
When I heard there was going to be another story in the Agency Files Series written, I knew I had to read it!
Chautona Havig has an interesting way of bringing stories to life. Sometimes, it’s not the way you think will happen.
If you’re like me and LOVE, “Who Done It” stories then this is the series for you!
Lots of action, suspense, and a bit of romance. I loved this whole series!
The whole concept of kidnapping someone to protect them, then not really knowing who to trust Wow!
This one was a bit different because Flynne really isn’t an agent and she’s just trying to protect Erika. She thinks no one is listening to her when she says there’s a threat, so Flynne takes matters into her own hands.
So many things can and do go wrong in this story yet the Agency stands firm. The Agency goes through lots of struggles and Mark has to know who to trust and who not to. Can they find out who really is the bad guy before anyone else gets hurt?
I’m still trying to figure all the side stories out.
At the end of the book, in the author’s notes, Chautona Havig shares a tiny bit of the next book in the series and OH, Wow! I’m already hooked! I still can’t figure out who the real bad guy is. The one who wants to put the Agency down. All I know is, I don’t like him or her!
I guess I’ll see, HOWEVER, I can’t wait for more!
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Suspense laced with tongue-in-cheek humor
My rating is 4.5 stars
Flynne is a bit of an enigma. She’s brilliant and yet speaks like a teenager. Or something like that – not sure I’ve ever heard a teenager use words she does. I’ve always thought she was a little annoying with her “coolio” and “totes” (totally, for those who need help interpreting.) Well, Flynne came into her own in Hashtag Rogue! And I will confess that it was rather endearing and she even explained why she talks this way.
When Flynne takes matters into her own hands because no one else will take her concerns seriously, she doesn’t mess around. Armed with weapons she doesn’t know how to use, more money than she has a right to have, and no plan at all, she kidnaps Erika and goes rogue.
Combining Flynne’s bumbling attempts with the dangers The Agency faces, Havig has written another great suspense story that will keep you guessing. With the plentiful action and plethora of surprises, it was so much fun to read.
Many of the agents are struggling with what they believe about God. Possibly influenced by Keith’s newfound relationship with Him. While there are many references to their questions, the spiritual message is more subtle here than in many of this author’s books.
Have you read the other books in this series? Remember Tyler? If so, you’ll be glad like I am that he gets to have a great part in this story and really comes into his own. I loved his big scene!! Yay Tyler!
One thing in particular that cracked me up is that I don’t think I have ever read a book that has so much swearing throughout while remaining completely clean and non-offensive! Realistically recognizing the fact that not only the unsaved agents (and Mark) would use such language, Keith and Erika would most likely struggle with using appropriate language for believers, Chautona Havig had fun with referring to the fact they swore in a way that was neither tiresome nor inappropriate. It was quite well done.
The characters and the plot of The Agency Files are so memorable, I had no problem keeping up with things or remembering who various people were even though it has been years since I read any of this series. While this one does stand alone, according to the author’s notes, it is also the first of a mini-series of three books.
If you enjoy suspense interjected with tongue-in-cheek humor, be sure to pick up a copy of Hashtag Rogue!

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
This was my introduction to The Agency and what an auspicious debut for me! The many twists and turns caused me to continually change my mind about who was good and who was not. Flynne Dortmann, assistant extraordinaire to The Agency is the heroine of this book – or is she? Stalking, kidnapping, almost drowning and death certainly kept my attention. The realization of the importance of learning to trust the Lord in and for everything was clearly portrayed by the main characters.
I must admit I was intrigued by the many plot lines, perhaps something I would have understood better if I had read books 1 – 4. However, this book is well worth reading even if you haven’t had the opportunity to meet these players in an earlier book.
I received this ARC through CelebrateLit. All impressions and opinions are my own.
