From the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Small Great Things and My Sister’s Keeper, a novel exploring the story of a young woman overcome by the demands of having a family.Paige has only a few vivid memories of her mother, who abandoned her at five years old. Now, having left her father behind in Chicago for dreams of art school and marriage to an ambitious young doctor, she finds … marriage to an ambitious young doctor, she finds herself with a child of her own. But her mother’s absence and shameful memories of her past force her to doubt whether she could ever be capable of bringing joy and meaning into the life of her child, gifts her own mother never gave.
Harvesting the Heart is written with astonishing clarity and evocative detail, convincing in its depiction of emotional pain, love, and vulnerability, and recalls the writing of Alice Hoffman and Kristin Hannah. Out of Paige’s struggle to find wholeness, Jodi Picoult crafts an absorbing novel peopled by richly drawn characters, and explores motherhood with a power and depth only she is capable of.
“A brilliant, moving examination of motherhood, brimming with detail and emotion.” —Richmond Times-Dispatch
“Jodi Picoult explores the fragile ground of ambivalent motherhood in her lush second novel. This story belongs to… the lucky reader.” —The New York Times Book Review

I got bored with it
It was an interesting read.
Re-reading this moving story refreshed my memory of why I love books by Picoult. The characters feel so real that I’m reluctant to let them go and move on to another book.
This is one of her older books but very good and spellbinding. She always delves into all sides of her controversial, complicated stories. They make me think.
Never able to put down a Jodi book!!
Awesome. One of my favorite books
Really developed the characters
I’ve always been a big Jodi Piccoult fan. Although I don’t think this was her best book, it certainly kept your interest. Always a delight to read her books.
I loved this book. I read a lot of cozy mysteries and very light reading now. I don’t know why, it this had more substance and was very interesting. Characters were great
A different take of a little love story! Enjoyed the different take on love
Too preachy
A very enjoying read, as always a Jodi tale of real human beings and all our faults.
This story is about love and loss. It’s also a very complicated one at best. It deals with the issues of marrying young when the parents don’t approve, the struggles of motherhood, an overworked father, and running away when things get tough. Through it all, they manage, but not without sacrifice and resentfulness.
One of the best picoult books
Somewhat depressing but well written
always love her books
As she always does, this author approaches a contemporary, contentious issue with compassion, examining all sides of the issue. I came away with a better understanding of those who do not share my own opinion.
I have read about 10 of Jodi Picoult’s books and thoroughly enjoyed them. This was a huge disappointment. The characters were unlikeable, the plot went nowhere. There was little resolution to the problems each character faced. I’d retitle this to “Ennui”.
Great reading!
Not one of her best.
