From the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Small Great Things and My Sister’s Keeper, a novel exploring the story of a young woman overcome by the demands of having a family.Paige has only a few vivid memories of her mother, who abandoned her at five years old. Now, having left her father behind in Chicago for dreams of art school and marriage to an ambitious young doctor, she finds … marriage to an ambitious young doctor, she finds herself with a child of her own. But her mother’s absence and shameful memories of her past force her to doubt whether she could ever be capable of bringing joy and meaning into the life of her child, gifts her own mother never gave.
Harvesting the Heart is written with astonishing clarity and evocative detail, convincing in its depiction of emotional pain, love, and vulnerability, and recalls the writing of Alice Hoffman and Kristin Hannah. Out of Paige’s struggle to find wholeness, Jodi Picoult crafts an absorbing novel peopled by richly drawn characters, and explores motherhood with a power and depth only she is capable of.
“A brilliant, moving examination of motherhood, brimming with detail and emotion.” —Richmond Times-Dispatch
“Jodi Picoult explores the fragile ground of ambivalent motherhood in her lush second novel. This story belongs to… the lucky reader.” —The New York Times Book Review

This book was easy to read and like many of her books presented from different characters views. Not a happily ever after but a suggestion of promise.
Not usual Jodi Picoult. Slow moving and unrealistic. Didn’t quite get ending.
Not up to her usual delicious reading for a Piccoult.
Though not my favorite of the author’s books, the characters were believable with all their flaws. Some of the narrative was less believable but entertaining.
I thought it had a great story
Good read. Thought it was a little slow and repetitive. But I enjoy her books. Not quite as good of a read as her other stories.
Enjoyed this book. Hard to put down
I hate reading about abortion, but the stories she writes have so many sides to them and they are really interesting to read.
I like the characters but at times they seemed so emotionally disfunctional the lot was hard to follow. The ending was confusing also.
This is a great book
Sad
mesmorizing characters.
I don’t know what word to use- sorry.
It was a little weird for me but I soldiered on. The main character had some kind of extra sensory gift whereby she incorporated things she couldn’t possibly know into her art work. You had to make a leap.
A little too much with the mother and the abandonment issue.
I love every work by this author, have about 10 pages left on this powerful, heart wrenching portrayal.
Couldn’t put this incredible story down! Picolt is a master storyteller who weaves an enchanting story with characters you want to know!
It doesn’t matter what the subject matter, Jodi Picoult brings you into the story. She’s my favorite author.
excellent read
There was not a lot of thinking going on while reading this book and it went fast.
This didn’t live up to my usual expectations for a Jodi Picoult novel, but it wasn’t entirely terrible either. I found it mediocre. I had a difficult time relating to the characters, which didn’t allow me to become emotionally involved.
I recommend anything by Jodi picoult.
She has never disappointed me.
