In this classic medical thriller filled with harrowing suspense and brilliantly crafted plot twists, Tess Gerritsen—the author of the acclaimed Rizzoli & Isles series that inspired the hit television show—delivers a pulse-pounding tale that “will make your heart skip a beat” (USA TODAY).For Dr. Abby DiMatteo, the long road to Boston’s Bayside Hospital has been anything but easy. Now, immersed … anything but easy. Now, immersed in the grinding fatigue of her second year as a surgical resident, she’s elated when the hospital’s elite cardiac transplant team taps her as a potential recruit.
But Abby soon makes an anguished, crucial decision that jeopardizes her entire career. A car crash victim’s healthy heart is ready to be harvested; it is immediately cross-matched to a wealthy private patient, Nina Voss. Abby hatches a bold plan to make sure that the transplant goes instead to a dying seventeen-year-old boy who is also a perfect match.
The repercussions are powerful and swift and Abby is shaken but unrepentant—until she meets the frail, tormented Nina. Then a new heart for Nina Voss suddenly appears, her transplant is completed, and Abby makes a terrible discovery: Nina’s heart has not come through the proper channels.
Defying Bayside Hospital’s demands for silence, Abby plunges into an investigation that reveals an intricate, and murderous, chain of deceptions. Every move Abby makes spawns a vicious backlash and, in a ship anchored in the stagnant waters of Boston Harbor, a final, grisly discovery lies waiting…

I just finished Tess Gerritsen’s HARVEST, which came out in 1996, so I’m late to the party. This was the best medical thriller I’ve ever read. It has a terrific plot, fast pace, and memorable characters. Gerritsen is a master of the genre.
I like all of Tess Gerritsen’s books. This was one of my favorites. I did not expect the ending.
Loved it! Very informative. Love the Medical side of these stories ups and downs and too many twisted tales of the Mafia, Russian involvement and the wealthy buying organs like the heart, that are not on the Organ waiting list. Harvesting in a whole different perspective for a price!
Wow! Well written. Sadly I can see this happening today.
I was a bit disappointed for the first hundred pages or so, as the action did not hold me. At one point I actually thought of abandoning the book. But, then things really took off and the last half of the book was non-stop action. The ending was truly astonishing, I don’t think I have ever been that surprised. Very good read.
This was a very exciting and suspenceful novel.
I don’t like you checking back and asking me to rate this book.
Worth every minute of reading. Keeps ones mind going round and round trying to figure out the ‘bad guy or gal’.
Tess Gerritsen writing a medical thriller! Well paced and researched. Another one out of the park for Tess!
This was such a good book. I read it several years ago, but maybe it’s time to reread it again! I would recommend it for sure.
I like all of her books & have read most of them. Always entertaining
Treachery, conspiracy and betrayal. And Dr. Abby is caught in the middle. It definitely plays on my fears that rich people can buy anything they want.
I read this book so Long ago I can’t remember what it was about. I remember enjoying it. Definitely recommend
Love her books!
Harvest kept me on the edge of my seat. Could not put down wanting to know what was going on. The twist at the end was something I never saw coming but was the best way to bring all characters together for the final finally. A must own and must read for all.
I had just had a double transplant of 2 organs, and when I saw the title “Harvest” and read the inside covers I knew I wanted to start reading it while I was standing in line to be checked out!
All I can say is after that initial book I was hooked on Tess’s books from that moment on. I’ve read quite a few over the years and have enjoyed all but one !?!?!
Keep up the GREAT work Tess *
This is my favorite Tess Gerritsen novel!
Tess Gerritsen has never let me down. Love her suspense novels including Harvest.
I enjoyed this book.
What a great and scary read about organ transplantation! It makes you wonder about such things going on in the hospital where you work or are admitted!
