“Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter ‘H’.”
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his … confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Not must-read, but I think you miss a lot if you don’t. Because it is not only a book, it is also a cornerstone of the world of J.K Rowling.
Oof.
I love this book
This is a great story at any age. It’s easy to get lost in the world of Harry Potter. Enjoy the read.
I LOVE THIS BOOK AND THE ENTIRE SERIES! I hated that it had to end as all stories must. The best thing about this book and the series is that I can visit anytime and I have again and again.
I think this is the best of the Harry Potter series. So clever. So original. Hermione is so smart but just a little bit annoying. Ron is bumbling but funny. And Harry is just working out who he is in this muddled (muggled) up world. A classic.
I read this as an adult when it first came out. I think it would be great for children over 8 as well as adults of all ages. I’ve read most of the Harry Potter books and seen the movies which pretty much stick to the books. A word of warning for parents of younger readers, the books longer and darker with each volume.
The Harry Potter series is a great one to pick up for those whom want to escape into a world not unlike our own, but so very different at the same time. Magic and fantastical creatures and adventure await when reading this book.
Enjoyed the entire series
Great beginning to a wonderful world that some don’t believe in. A series I enjoyed til the very last book!
I started this whole series later in life and ate them up like I had never read anything before. What a wonderful world filled with all sorts of character. Young, old, and everyone in between should read this series.
Loved it!
Wonderful series!
amazing
If you haven’t started the Harry Potter Series, WHAT ARE YOU DOING! Harry Potter is a fantastic series and if you want to start it, be my guest to this book. It started it all. Don’t forget to check out the other books of the series! Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of …
I’ve read all of them and get the story line mixed up but I don’t even care because these books are so good! Mmhmm!
I used to think people who read Harry Potter were weirdos. I wasn’t allowed to read it when I was younger and was fine with that because I was not a freak. But, I ended up reading the first book in exchange for a bet and money and was shocked how amazing it was. It’s so good. Even though it’s about wizards and dorky stuff, it doesn’t feel dorky. …
Read This series when it came out and loved it! To me it was definitely a masterpiece and what an imaginative creative mind in the book world!
Love this series! A must read for all ages. Don’t just watch the movies, read the book! So much more detail than the movie!
Brings you into a world that seems as true as it is imaginary. Rowlings is an exceptional writer who creates a world you could only hope to experience, no matter what your age is.
