“Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter ‘H’.”
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his … confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Yes, I have been very, very slow to get on the Harry Potter bandwagon. But I’m so glad I finally decided to read book #1. And yes, I will be continuing the journey. The characters are well-developed. There are good and bad in both “worlds.” Rowling surprised me with different revelations, which I liked.
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by …
This is one I consider required reading to understand things in pop culture today. The whole series is amazing. I can’t believe I didn’t read it until this year but I would have DIED waiting for them to be released. It was better to be able to read them all in a binge.
Have to reread before I read The Cursed Child
I love the entire series and never get tired of rereading them. I love the combination off innocence and hope that the books give Harry. I like the way that Harry and Ron become immediate best friends. The first hint at acceptance is heart warming. The way that Hermmione became friends with Harry and Ron was exciting. The adventures leave you …
In honor of Harry’s 20th anniversary, I must post this review. I remember reading this book in 1999 and absolutely loving it. The characters are wonderful and the writing is witty. It’s a classic which will be remembered for decades.
This book introduced me into a world of reading and wonder. Some people might say it’s just a children’s book but it’s actually a series that grows with the reader and teaches about racism, social status, animal rights, as well as the dangers of power.
Hogwarts will always be there for me.
I never liked reading until I started reading these books and I credit this series for my love of reading!
This book started off my love and obsession with all things Rowling. One of the most beloved children’s book series starts off with such a simple story, but slowly evolves into something bigger than we could imagine. One of my favorite books in the series. If you haven’t read it yet, give it a try!
You can’t be an avid reader and not have read a Harry Potter book. I read my first after seeing the first movie and I became totally addicted because who doesn’t love a story about a child who given every opportunity to do wrong always chooses the harder path to do right. Harry Potter is a good example to children everywhere that no matter what …
This is the one that started it all and I love every second of it. I re-read the Harry Potter series every summer and have recently started listening to Jim Dale’s narration to further experience the story. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is looking to escape into a book and find that they relate to 11 year old wizards in astounding …
Years ago a co-worker would not relent until I read Harry Potter. I scoffed since they were books for young adults. I finally read the first book and was hooked and read everyone and went to all the movies. So the book i did not think I would like turned into a series of books and movies I loved
There are some books that I wish would never end – the Harry Potter series fit in this category. Between the books and the movies, I find a fantasy world for total escape from real life. I never tire of rereading the books or rewatching the movies. I often wish the books were twice as long as they are (and that’s saying something considering the …
I read this in one sitting. I was up so late that I basically got 3 hours of sleep. It was TOTALLY worth it. It’s a great first book.
Anything Harry Potter is worth re-reading. Rowling’s work is mesmerizing. Every read brings something new and unexpected. I recommend ALL Harry Potter books!
My favorite series when I was younger. Reading about Harry and his adventures was a feel good factor then and now. The Harry Potter series is quite brilliantly written with intricate detailing to each and every thing. Sorcerer’s stone is the beginning of Harry’s journey at Hogwarts where he meets his best friends Ron and Hermione as well as his …
I loved the Harry Potter series of books. My 12 (now almost 14) year old son started reading them and I began reading a bit behind him. It got to the point where he was always wanting to talk about what was happening, so I had to pass him up in the reading just so he didn’t spoil the plots for me. I ended up finishing way ahead of him. He stopped …
I AM ADDICTED TO THIS BOOK SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS! I AM A TOTAL HARRY POTTER FAN!!!!!! IF I EVER MET J.K. Rowling, I WOULD LITERALLY PASS OUT FROM ASTONISHMENT THAT I WAS SEEING HER! I LOVE THIS SERIES! 100% Recommend it!
I like this series but not the first book, If you want to read this series i DO NOT recommend the first book. Please skip the first book if you want to read this series.
I think this book is amazingly cool
