The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016. It was always …
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
This Special Rehearsal Edition will be available to purchase until early 2017, after which a Definitive Edition of the script will go on sale.

It’s just a surprising story and it makes me want to read more
Great to see the Potterverse from a different character angle, very entertaining with loads of twists and turns
As always with Rowling, creative.
Fun read. 3.5 stars.
Always nice to visit with old “friends”, which is what characters like Harry, Hermione, and Ron feel like. The fact that this “book” is really a script makes it impossible to give five stars. It leaves way too much to the visual staging, which—of course— we can’t see.
My best friend got this book for me and I gotta say it’s really interesting to see the next generation of Harry potter living there own adventures and the fact that we get to see how life turned out to be to the trio in the future is great plus the friendships and chemistry between the characters like Albus and Scorpius for example or the golden trio is wonderful you can really see the loyalty andfierce friendship between them .
Soooooo good!!! Love the characters and plot!
You can tell it was not really written by J.K. Rowling, it takes a little getting used to because it is written as a play. It does have the semblance of magic though the Scorpio character was marvelous. More than a few good ideas and I would really enjoy it as a movie too. If I had to give it stars, it would be 3.5.
Its worth giving it a try, if you enjoy the Wizarding World that Rowling has created. Some fans find it hard to accept what is written as canon to the series, but I still think it was wonderful. Also it’s in the form of a script so some people miss the story telling aspect of the original series.
I have had the good fortune of actually seeing the play on Broadway. Seeing the words come to life was breathtaking. Reading and watching and then rereading made it so special to me.
Better than I thought it would be.
In my mind I definitely wasn’t giving this one a fair chance. I don’t like reading in playwright format, but I flew through this one. It’s not even J.K. Rowling… but that didn’t matter either. These two guys that wrote this one did her stories justice.
Was I blown away to give it a perfect rating? No.
Did I like it? Overall, yes.
I liked how it picked up where the films and the last book leave off. You are left wondering what happens with Harry’s family, since you get that glimpse. This story gives you everything you want and more.
What I didn’t care for was the bopping around to different scenes. I get it’s a play so it’s different, but some were to cut and dry for me. Especially coming from such huge books from Rowling. This was like a tidbit.
Still good though, and fans of the series should read it.
3.5/5
Ok, so this book doesn’t really need any more reviews but I said I would leave one for every book I read, so this has to be done.
I borrowed this book from my daughter but it was only on my second attempt that I managed to get into it. I have no idea why, just the place I was in at the time I suppose. Although it might also be that it is a screenplay which I didn’t find drew me in in quite the same way.
The book description literally says ‘The Eighth Story. Nineteen years later.’ Imagine just being able to have that on the back of your latest release.
I was always mighty envious of Hermione’s time-turner in the Harry Potter series – just imagine the things you could accomplish in a day with one of those things! And it is one of these since-banned items that features large in this story.
Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy are both outsiders due to parental issues, of different forms, and become firm friends at Hogwarts. It always amazes me how fate hangs by such fragile threads and consequently when these two set off to right a wrong it is interesting to see the knock on effects of what seemingly minor changes to history can do. I greatly enjoyed seeing how our favourite characters lives panned out with these changes.
The story takes on a sinister turn which came as much of a surprise to me as it did to the characters themselves and I liked the reminders of all the old spells and potions. I’m sure any Harry Potter fan will already have bought and devoured this. I enjoyed the read but wasn’t as drawn into the world as with the novels probably because this is written so differently. I would also love to get to see it on the stage although there appears to be little chance of getting tickets any time soon.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child where do I even begin? I have always been a huge Harry Potter fan. I started reading the books in elementary school. They were the first books I picked up and fell in love with reading. It took me years to find books I loved as much as Harry Potter. Harry Potter made me become a reader.
When I heard about the play I was so excited but also saddened that the play was in London. Then they said we would get the book. I was
I have heard many people upset it isn’t an actual book but the screenplay. The theatre nerd in me was so thrilled to be able to read a script again. And it’s Harry Potter.
The cursed child is about Harry and Malfoy’s son. It’s an odd combination considering Harry and Malfoy hate each other. But their sons Albus and Scorpius are best friends. When I first read they are best friends my mind was like this
Since it is a play it skips a few years here and there. I don’t want to give away too much but I love seeing flashbacks of the original books. I love the quotes from the books and the movies being repeated throughout the entire book. My heart is bursting
Reading this book is like curling up in my favorite blanket, with a cup of tea, and reliving my childhood. Remembering why I fell in love with Harry Potter in the first place. And them bringing back many of my original favorites even for just one scene.
I now want to reread the entire series again and relive the magic of it all. Hogwarts is my home and will always remain my home. I can’t put much more up as a review because I’m afraid if I reveal all my feelings I have for this book/script I’ll post spoilers and I can’t ruin that for anyone! So if you love Harry Potter read this and go back to Hogwarts. Thank you J.K. Rowling for giving me giving all of us one last story and one last return to our favorite home.
I will start out by saying THIS IS A PLAY! It is not written like a novel, so if you aren’t willing to overlook that, this is not a book for you. This wasn’t a great book, but it wasn’t horrible either. I actually enjoyed it. I am a bit sad about how quick of a read it was. I like how this was more about Albus and Scorpius. Harry, Ron, and Hermione take a back burner, along with Ginny and Draco. I will add that I am happy that I didn’t re-read the HP series before reading this. I think that would have made it harder to enjoy. I do recommend this play to anyone who liked the HP series as long as they keep all this in mind 🙂
For fans of the HP series, this is a fun revisit to some of our favorite characters. Jo did not write most of the play, however, she did dip her hand in things, so we know the accounts of our favorite characters’ lives are true.
That being said, there was much about the characters, new and old, that just did not feel believable. I just can’t imagine Harry’s represented personality being what it is – wholly.
The storyline itself was interesting, but it did not feel like the typical HP world that I am used to. It was not the fact that it was written in play form – I am very used to reading screenplays, movie adaptations, etc – it was the fact that it was written by someone who is NOT J.K. Rowling. Additionally, the storyline was incredibly far-fetched, even by magical, wizarding world standards.
This was wonderful fan fiction with a great re-imagining of characters, but it did not feel like the story continuation I was expecting. I understand that it was never intended to be an ‘epilogue’ of sorts, but any story that takes place before or after the main story within the same timeline is expected to hold some familiarity with characters, and show a believably progression of their personalities and character arcs. I just did not feel that with this book.
It was fun. I read it because I felt obligated in order to keep my Potterhead card. But, I would caution anyone against having too high of expectation.
This book was one of the best Harry Potter books ever.
not good because you have to buy it.YOU SHOULD GET EVERY BOOK FREE!
It’s is the best
A must for any Potter fan
I doubt this book was written by Jk Rowling much less somebody who actually knows and understands the characters and world of Harry Potter. I was genuinely disappointed by this book.
I love it so muchHarry Potter and the Cursed Child
The book is a study in family relationships. I often wondered how Draco felt having to hear Harry’s parents being murdered and finally understanding the pain Harry had live with.
