The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016. It was always …
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
This Special Rehearsal Edition will be available to purchase until early 2017, after which a Definitive Edition of the script will go on sale.

LOVE THE SERIES! Harry Potter is one of the best Orginal Series I am sure many of you read thins but if you don’t know READ IT!
IT WAS AWESOME
This book comes after the Hairy Potter series. This book is also in script form only. It about the Potters and every one after they grow up and have children.
It’s also about their children’s time at Hogwarts school of wich craft and wizardry.
It was an amazing experience and the fact that it was in play form, I felt like I was there myself. Wonderful characters that you definitely can relate to, and there are a lot of wonderful plot twists to it.At some points I would get so wowed out, like with who is related to who and when I find out who other characters actually are. It is heartwarming and the characters really relate to their ancestors. It is a quick read and I am glad that I got to go on the last (Maybe) adventure with these characters.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a play, but it only took the first chapter to get back into the swing of how to read one and know who’s speaking without a slight stop/start approach. I’ve just finished the latest #harrypotter book with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts One and Two. I enjoyed it but it was way too short. I want the 750 page novels from the past to come back! Please!
It’s a must read for any Potter fan. I acknolwedge it’s a little different and you really don’t get a lot of time to get to know Harry’s, Ron’s, Hermione’s and Ginny’s kids… and the story feels a little rushed, but it was good to feel the connection to the magic of these stories again.
Don’t expect a show-stopper like the first 7 books but it was definitely worth the read!
It was just like originals. Did not disappoint!
Harry Potter’s son Albus gets a chance to prove what a hero he can be. However, things don’t go as planned, and an attempt to fix things only makes them worse. Can he fix them? Will his famous father be able to help him?
This is a play script. That means it isn’t nearly as immersive as the books we all love. It takes a bit to get used to essentially reading dialogue, but once we do, it becomes easier to slip back into Harry’s world. We get to see plenty of old friends as well as the new generation, and I enjoyed some of what we saw of the characters. The plot was a little out there, but I enjoyed the character stuff so much I didn’t really care.
Hi@Emuir31 I. Have. Harry Potter. Book8
I am unsure why not many people like this book. It was a great addition to the story line, regardless of it not being written by JK Rowling. It is written as script for a play so it does not have a lot of elaboration when describing the scene. Maybe that’s where people were turned away from. Like I mentioned, it was a great addition and a must read for Harry Potter fans.
Can you imagine being Harry Potter’s son, trying to make at Hogwarts, being friends with Malfoy’s son (love it) and not as good at things as your dad? After I got used to the format of a play (with stage direction), I found this to be an engaging look into the world of Harry Potter. Hope JK Rowling expands this into a novel, would like to see the characters and themes fleshed out.
Great read. Even though it’s written as a play, it didn’t affect my reading of it. Harry Potter is all grown up with kids of his own. One of his sons gets into mischief similar to the mischief Harry got into when he was younger.
I received this book as a Christmas present from my son. I loved the first seven Harry Potter books, but when this one came out, I had mixed feelings about reading it. My main concern was that the book was written in a play format. I really prefer reading novels. I love the description that you are able to get in novels. A play feels really sterile, especially when you are just reading it. When my son gave me the book, I decided that it was time to read it.
The story takes place nineteen years after the events in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We meet up with Harry and Ginny, and their three children (James, Lily and Albus), and Ron and Hermione and their child Rose. It is Albus’ first year at Hogwarts. He immediately bonds with Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco, especially when both are sorted into Slytherin.
I enjoyed the basic story. When characters from the previous books were brought back for what are essentially cameos, I felt a wave of nostalgia. It was a bit sad to see Harry beaten down by the bureaucracy of his job. He seems very middle aged and not so much a hero anymore. I have heard that this is a great play to watch on stage. I hope I get the chance to do that some day. I would also like it if the book could be rewritten as a novel. You really need to have read the first seven books to get the most out of this one. Fans of the series should enjoy revisiting Hogwarts.
Continues the love affair with Hogwarts
This was a fairly good read, I finished it in a day. I just found some flaws in the storyline but I love J. K. Rowling’s work so I overlooked the flaws. I will definitely read it again
A wonderful way to continue “Nine-Teen Years Later”
Okay, so I know that people will hate on this book. And while I do see where they come from, as the plot is a mess and it’s just another time-travel book, BUT I thought that it wasn’t that bad. I thought while the characters from the main story seem added randomly throughout, it was nice to see how their kids had it while going to Hogwarts. Such as how, spoilers, Draco’s son and Harry’s youngest son are kind of bullied and really only have each other, and Albus dealing with not living up to his father. While there were many plot holes, I did like getting to see how their kids had it and how the main characters from the original series were as parents, from what we saw.
Was an ok book, but could have been better written; not enough effort by author.
I felt that it lacked the depth of the other books and the main character was a whiny brat I really wouldn’t recommend it on it’s own, though some might feel it ti necessary to complete the series
I wish Rowling would write Harry Potter books again. I don’t like that this book is in play form.
I enjoy this but I wish it was more aid a book and not I. A play form. But very good
