A conservative senior citizen takes the long way to California by taking only local transportation – bus, helicopter, or motorcycle sidecar. I loved following Harriet on her zany adventure. Very entertaining, just don’t expect absolute plausibility. But you will smile.
Harriet Beamer is an elderly woman who recently became a widow. She lives alone in Philadelphia with Humphrey, her dog. Her son and daughter-in-law have been trying to get Harriet to move in with them, very much against her wishes. When she falls for the fourth time and fractures her ankle (after foolishly making a bargain that if the ankle is …
Absolutely delightful! There’s surely a bit of Harriet Beemer in all of us—that mixture of trepidation but desire for adventure, and a relishing of God’s pleasure in becoming all He’s created us to be. I’d barely swiped away my tears before breaking into new peals of laughter. Harriet Beemer Takes the Bus is Joyce Magnin’s best yet.
Couldn’t put it down. I’m onto the next book Harriet Beamer Strikes Gold
This is an amazingly fun book, with some great life lessons tucked in between the adventures of 72-year-old Harriet who takes public transportation across the US
NO matter what age you are, you will enjoy this book. Yes it centers on an older lady making a great leap of faith to go out of her comfort zone, yet it also shows others in the world we connect with or could, if we get ‘brave’ enough to look up and out as we go about our days. Loved this book, its one that will warm your heart… and I highly …
Fun to listen to. Great adventures.
A sweet feel food read.
Light hearted Christian book that was impossible to put down!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Harriet is a spunky older woman who shows you’re never too old for an adventure or to start making some dreams come true. She’s an inspiration.
Cute and funny
Light read and interesting plot –
Harriet Beamer is not ready “to be put out to pasture.“ She is ready to try out her fledgling wings and make the trip across country the l-o-n-g way— bus stop to bus stop, train to train, and even motorcycle to helicopter, oh my! She meets people, she meets herself and she meets God in action. She resolves family conflicts and internal conflicts …
I enjoyed the story, the characters and how the book flowed. Really pleasant read.
Good book!
