First in a new women’s fiction series from the author of Auld Acquaintance!Mavis and Hilary have a common problem. Both retired widows, they’ve reached the point in their lives where it would make most sense to move into a retirement community. Neither want that for their future, however, and they devise a plan to solve all their problems and provide a residence designed exactly to their … designed exactly to their requirements. But it won’t work for just two women–and so the search is on for the perfect companions to share Harmony House.

I think we will find in about 25 years or less that single
older women will find the solution these ladies did to pool their resources and live together may be the answer to loneliness amongst the older boomers.
I also think it would be wise if contractors realized there is a need for this type of housing. Homes with nice size bedrooms and baths but communal kitchens and dining areas and libraries and/or dens.
We all know that many women outlive men and if they could find housing that would allow them privacy but also companionship they could stay independent without moving to a generic senior
apartment. That way if they enjoyed gardening or other hobbies they would still be able to do that and also outings with like minded people.
Fans of Rosamund Pilcher and Maeve Benchey will enjoy this author. Reading the book was like a visit with friends. Warm and cozy. It also provided insight into the possibility of co-op housing, similar to the 1970s tv series “The Golden Girls”, but with the focus being more on the practical considerations.
Best book I’ve read in months, maybe even years! The characters were so real and so believable that I feel as if I know them personally. A true piece of women’s literature.
The author spins a wonderful story about women coming together with friendship and trust. Each has their own way of dealing with life. A wonderful book!

Did not like it
I loved this book. What a great idea to share a house like that.
Light, easy, enjoyable reading.
From the first page of this book, I did not want to close it. It was realistic, with real characters. After reading the book, you feel that you have known women very much like the women in this book.
Loved it
The power of women with women friends as they get older is such a lovely thought.
The book shed light on the reality of growing older and finding a new way to live. They made new friends that will be there when needed.
