Penwith, the southwest tip of Cornwall, is a land of mystery and magic, of prehistoric monuments, witchcraft…and murder. When an American archaeological team stumbles upon the skeletal remains of a missing child beneath a Stone Age burial quoit, irascible CID Detective Sergeant Morgan Davies and her Scene of Crimes partner, Calum West, unearth a growing list of suspects.Within days, another body … another body is discovered. Is the killer the mind-reading village witch—who has long been a suspect in the child’s disappearance? Is it the drug-dealing partner of the child’s heroin-addicted mother? Or is it someone even closer to the investigation? Just as Davies and West close in on their prime suspect, another child disappears.

I love it when I can lookup locations or events on the internet that can get INTO the story.
Don’t appreciate the need for using the name of Christ as a profanity.
not my cup of tea
Great set of characters, very interesting story. For some reason, I’m fascinated with the southwest of England, so I enjoy the references to locales in this, as well. Recommend!
What a fun book, and it was a mystery! We have vacationed in Cornwall UK and it was great to read about all the places we’d visited. I also learned a lot about the old customs and religions dedicated to the mother and earth goddesses. So the book had elements of realism and mysticism. The mystery was well thought out and the character …
This book was slow to build. There were so many disconnected characters I almost gave up on the book. I’m glad I stayed with the story. I could not put it down! Good story. Different.
I finished it, therefore it was worth READING !!!
Interesting plots and characters, hard to put down. Main character is interesting woman detective with a difficult background. Great to see her develope.
I didn’t finish reading this one, it kinda put me to sleep. Maybe I’ll go back to it IF I have nothing else to read and get desperate.
I enjoy reading about mysterious happenings especially when there is involvement by people with special abilities and law inforcement
that works hard.
Fun mystery novel with some surprising characters and surprising character alliances.
I don’t usually like books with occult themes. This book is more about people than the magical event. It was an interesting read.
Will North is another author whose books I’ve added to my small collection, “Books to reread when the book you’re reading makes you want to shoot yourself.” North is a skillful writer who writes about Corwall, England as if it were one of his characters. Like Davies and West and all the other characters in his books, it has its quirks as well as …
Very good read
Well written, thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Will North’s books raised my interest in Cornwall and that lead to my studying the area and its history so that in addition to have thoroughly enjoyable reading, I came away much more knowledgeable about Cornwall. Thanks! I highly recommend. I also very much enjoyed his characters and their interactions.
I wanted this book to go on and on and didn’t want it to end!
Made me feel like I was in middle of the case helping Morgan Davies and her team solve.Archie’s murder. Did not put it down except to go to sleep.
Interesting on several levels, believable characters, fascinating subculture.
none of the above. really bad book
