Review:
Harlow is hardworking and curious and when she comes across a mystery, she is hard pressed to let it go. When she buys some books from an estate sale and finds a complete set of signed novels by her favorite author of all time, Alistair Winslow, she is beyond excited. No one knows the author’s true identity and she thinks it would be great to figure out who the author is. With the help of her good friend, Coop, who is a private investigator, she sets out to do just that. But things never work out the way that we plan, and she finds herself investigating a murder along with the hidden identity.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Coop is a great guy and the friendship between him and Harlow may be moving into something more serious. I was great to spend more time with Harlow’s family and catch up on what is going on in their lives.
The writing style flows smoothly throughout the entire book. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The mystery was well plotted and had enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I liked the fact that Harlow did not stumble across a dead body, which happens often in cozies that I reads. It was refreshing.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you like cozies that have a lot of family dynamics, you should give this book a try.
Having found an envelope with what appears to be unpublished manuscript pages, along with personal messages, at an estate sale, bookstore owner Harlow Hathaway is curious enough to want to track down the elusive author who penned these notes. Her search makes her more curious about the deceased man whose estate contained this treasure, so she enlists the help of her best friend, a P.I.
I admit that I was as intrigued about the contents and meaning of the manuscript as I was about the actual mystery this book had us following.
As well as going along with Harlow as she does her sleuthing and evaluates her relationship with her best friend, we learn more about the Hathaway family as a whole. Five sisters, plus mom and grandmother, all but one of whom seem to have significant relationships, and the one who does not has a significant ex, plus additional family members of those significant men, makes for a full house of characters! I am looking forward to continuing to read this series as all these relationships unfold and are revealed.
I enjoyed this second of the series. When Harlow buys boxes of books at an estate sale, she ends up with more than she expected.
I loved the whole back story to this book, it had some interesting twists and tied up nicely in the end. I will continue on with this series.
I really like the 2 books that are out in this series. Hopefully, there will be more books.
“Harlow” earns 5/5 First Edition Treasures…Clever, Engaging!
My delight with this series continues…Using a third-person narrative readers are introduced to Harlow Hathaway, the second youngest of the five Hathaway sisters. She resides in Moosehead, Minnesota, and owns The Book Nook. While foraging through items at an estate sale for multi-wealthy Theo Emerson, she is amazed to find a first edition treasure and signed copies of every book penned by her favorite author Alistair Winslow. Very much of a recluse, not even his editor knows what he looks like, Harlow is intrigued about this mystery man along with the handwritten inscriptions in the book, and are those pages from an unfinished manuscript? She desires to uncover his identity and learn more about the story that seems a departure from typical Winslow stories and enlists her good friend/private investigator Coop’s assistance. However, seeking Alistair’s identity leads to more mysteries, suspicions, and a possible crime. Hooked! The mystery of the author’s identity and connection to the late Emerson is clever and quite the page-turner journey with surprises and a great revelation, and although third-person perspective is not my favorite, Daley does it well with vivid descriptions and informative dialogue. Beyond the mystery, Kathi Daley’s signature style always delves into the characters and their everyday life. It is fascinating how she creates an admirable Hathaway family and their influence on others. The Hathaway universe is fun to inhabit, but the books build on each other. One sister may take the lead, but information about Harper, the focus in book one, is revealed…not as a true spoiler, though. Intriguing. Entertaining. Fun.
I enjoyed this second book as much as the first book in this series. You do not necessarily need to read the first book to connect with the second. Harlow Hathaway, the second youngest of the five Hathway women, owns a bookstore in Moosehead, Minnesota and lives in the apartment above it. She and her best friend, Cooper Calloway, attended an estate sale of Theo Emerson. While inventorying their purchase of 40 large boxes of books, Harlow finds a first edition of The Great Gatsby plus signed books by her families favorite author Alistair Winslow. Alistair Winslow is the pen name of the person who writes the books and no one thus far has been able to determine who actually is the author. As her inventory continues Harlow finds manila envelopes that hold a manuscript of several chapters believed to be written by Alistair Winslow and shared with his friend Theo. When she shares this information with Cooper, who would love to extend their relationship from just friends to more, they decide to try to learn more information about Theo with hopes of gaining information to the identity of Alistair. I enjoyed this book since it not only focused on mystery and books but also family with a little romance on the side. I’m anxious to read about the third sister. Will it be Hayden, Haven or Haley?
Harlow is book two in the Hathaway Sister Mystery series. This story was interesting as they investigated who Alistair Winslow really was. It kept me hooked throughout, and I encourage you to read it.
This was the second book in the Hathaway Sister series where you get to know Harlow better. Harlow is still living in the town that the girls grew up in but has moved out of the family home and into an apartment above the bookstore that she has recently opened. Harlow recently went to an estate sale where she purchased 40 boxes of books, and she can’t wait to see what all she bought. While inventorying the books she comes across a complete set of books by her favorite author and they were signed as well. It looks like the man that passed might have been friends with the author and she sees a mystery that she hopes to solve. Her favorite author uses a pen name and she would love to figure out who he actually is and if he is anything like she imagines. While digging into the dead mans past in hopes of finding out who her favorite elusive author is she stumbles onto a bigger mystery. The death of the man that brought her to the estate where she got the books to begin with. Follow along as Harlow and her friend Cooper dig deeper into his life and figure out if he really died of a heart attack or was something more sinister at work. This was a great read and I enjoyed getting to know Harlow and look forward to learning more about her other sisters in the future.
This is the second book in the new Hathaway Sisters Mystery series. This book is filled with the elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community.
Harlow is the second youngest of the five Hathaway sisters. She owns a bookstore, The Book Nook, in Moosehead, Minnesota. She recently bought boxes of books from the estate sale of Theo Emerson, a rich man who died of a heart attack. Her best find among these boxes is the first chapters of an as-yet unpublished book and signed copies with personal and cryptic messages to Theo in all of the books written by Harlow’s favorite author, Alistair Winslow. Alistair is a mysterious recluse who doesn’t do book signings, and who no one has ever seen. Harlow, along with her best friend Cooper Callaway, ventures to uncover the answers to the many questions they encounter in different mysterious circumstances, including the true identity of Alistair Winslow. If they learn more about Theo Emerson, they might learn more about Alistair.
I was immediately intrigued by this mystery. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable and quick read. I look forward to future stories featuring the Hathaway sisters.

Harlow is book two in Hathaway Sister Mystery Series. Daley has the start of another good mystery series. Loved the story and the characters, both were well written. The series keeps getting better. A fast paced read Harlow owns and operates a book store. Cooper , her friend is a P.I. Harlow and Cooper has their hands full trying to find answers after a mystery death. Harlow is the second book in Kathi Daley’s Hathaway Sister Mystery series. This wonderful series follows the lives of the tight-knit Hathaway family, especially the five daughters. The storyline in this steadily paced book is well thought out, the affable characters are well developed, and the mystery unique and interesting. I recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries, and I’m looking forward to reading more about the Hathaway family.
Harlow Hathaway, who is the owner of a bookstore in her hometown of Moosehead, Minnesota, is one of five sisters. Harlow’s second oldest sister, Harper, has returned to Moosehead and has settled into the family home along with Bella, the baby she and Michael Maddox recently rescued. Harlow’s best friend, Cooper Callaway, is working with Ben Holiday, the owner of Holiday Investigations, and has two sisters, Carrington and Christy. When their parents died, Carrington, who was only nineteen, became Coop and Christy’s guardian. Carrington and Coop took over the role of parents to their much younger sister who has an attention deficit disorder and can be a handful. Christy was trying to live on her own, but had trouble keeping a job and making responsible financial decisions, so Coop brings her to Moosehead. Harlow and Coop recently went to an estate sale where she purchased forty boxes of books owned by the late Theo Emerson. Most of the books turned out to be trade paperbacks, but Harlow did find some rare and valuable first editions. She was pleased when she found all of her favorite authors’ books and became thrilled when she discovered they were signed and had personal messages to Theo Emerson from the author, Alistair Winslow, but she became ecstatic when she found what she believed to be the beginning of an unpublished book. The author never made personal appearances, and no one knew what he looked like or his true identity, but Harlow suspected Theo and the author were friends and hoped she might be able to identify and locate the reclusive author if she learned about Theo’s past. When Coop helps her in her quest for information, they discover some surprising revelations that change the course of their search.
