“What happens when you’re tired of just surviving?” I said not expecting an answer.
“You start living, Charlotte. You set your own rules, you have dreams and goals, and you reach for them. What you’re doing right now is existing. There’s a big difference.”
I’ve read Tracie’s books before but this one was slightly different from what I’m used to with reading her stories. Tracie always had that ‘suck me right into’ writing style and with time she managed to increase that.
I was totally captivated by Harlot. She is one of those heroines that you want to protect from all the evil she had to live with and to help her to cope with the future ones. But there are some lovely people determined to help her and one of them is Beau (love the name). Now, he is a hero that walks around all dark and moody and you want to know all his secrets (and belive me, he has some). He intruiged me, I admit.
Somewhere around that ‘message being found’ the story became even more interesting! I got those twists and turns that I love so much. Everything was just perfect.
Favorite Quotes:
He was my commander, when I was in the regular army. Then he was my commander when I joined the irregular army.
One stare from him, Charlotte, and any child would fall immediately into submission. He was evil, and that evilness rolled off him like a gas, contaminating everything and everyone around.
My Review:
“Charlotte the Harlot” was how her cousin/guardian would taunt her. Some guardian! Coming from the title and synopsis – this exceptionally well-written and cunningly crafted book was not at all what I expected. Although sex crimes are mentioned, there were no actual sex scenes within the pages. And while some may find that completely incongruous for a book titled Harlot, let me assure you that sex was not needed to sell this gripping read.
The plot was rife with mind prickling suspense and curiosity tickling intrigue. The characters were compellingly detailed yet cryptically tight-lipped and holding secrets from each other. I was unsure whom to trust throughout much of the book as they were each artfully skilled in evasion, and no one was who they seemed. I feared Charlotte was either being manipulated, set-up, or used as bait, although I was also a bit frustrated by her forked tongue as well.
The writing was keenly observant, gut-twisting, and emotionally intense on every level. I was quickly ensnared by Ms. Podger’s word voodoo and immediately fell into Charlotte’s narrative from page one. Written in an insightful and sharply detailed first person POV, the storyline was eventful, well-paced, and enthralling. Ms. Podger’s writing was riveting, first-rate, and likely to lead to sleep deprivation. In conclusion, Tracie Podger is a remarkably gifted evil genius. I am in awe of her mad skills, and maybe a little bit afraid of her now as well.
The one thing you can never accuse Tracie Podger of is writing cookie cutter books. Every book I have read by this author is different and an has a unique and intriguing storyline. Harlot is no different, beginning with the amazing cover. The suspense series that this book plays into has intrigued me since I read Gabriel. While each book can be read as a standalone, they all tie into the elusive cult that the FBI is chasing.
Charlotte has not had an easy life, abandoned by her mother at birth she was raised by her loving grandmother. However, when she dies all hell breaks loose in Charlotte’s life. Her guardian is a cousin she never knew, who throws her into a life of prostitution and degradation. Given a unique opportunity, she runs from the trashy trailer she is forced to live in.
Rescued from during a storm, Beau sees something in Charlotte and though he is an ass, he protects her, as do several of the people in the small town she lands in. Striving for a normal life, with limited success, Charlotte must always look over her shoulder but the danger is not just from her cousin; she has landed on the cult’s radar.
This is no formula book, things happen that surprise the reader and often the characters. There are secrets revealed, character that are not as they appear, and an issue of trust and truth to be resolved. As always Ms. Podger’s characters are well developed and interact well with each other. The plot is tight and pulls the reader into the action. Harlot is an amazing book.
Harlot well what can I say Tracie has done it again this book. was such a roller coaster of a ride.
You get sucked in till the very last page and you just don’t want to put the book down. You just have to keep reading to see how it will all end.
Charlotte is only 19 years old and is a prostitute. Not be choice.
One night when she is with a client he ends up dead, she goes on the run. Because she fears she will be to blame.
She ends up in a town. That holds secrets and she meets Beau. they hate each other. they do not trust each other.
Can Charlotte trust him enough to tell him what she is running from?
Can Beau open up enough to help her. you have to read to find out.
Another absolutely brilliant book from Tracie Podger. Brilliantly written.
This book hooked me from the start, although it accompanies Gabriel and A Deadly Sin, it can be read as a standalone. but if you haven’t read the other books give them a go they are amazing.
I can’t wait to see what Tracie gives us next This Author is fast becoming one of my Favourites.
This isn’t a romance by any means but it is the story of a girl. The loss of her grandmother set her life into a spiral she couldn’t find a way out of. Not until that night. He had no idea what he was getting himself into when he saved her on the side of the road, or did he. This isn’t about romance. It’s dark and ugly and as her life twist upside down it also twist back right. It’s the story of a girl fighting for normal and all she has to go through to get there. It’s the story of fighting to regain control. It’s also the story of dark ugly things and people who take advantage and ruin lives. But there can be light in darkness along with strength and sometimes it’s worth the fight to prove you’re more than a name.
Heartbreaking. Emotional. Awesome.

I’ve read a few of this authors books and loved them. I couldn’t want to read this one and the author didn’t disappoint me as I loved this story.
I’ve gotta say I love the cover 🙂
Charlotte is a great heroine. She’s been through so much yet she’s so strong. I was so rooting she’d find happiness. When she meets Beau they hate each other. Can they get past the hatred and start trusting each other?
I read this book in one sitting. I seriously couldn’t put it down. If your looking for an intense read that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat then I highly recommend you read this gem. I loved it.
