Janet Evanovich’s #1 New York Times bestselling sensation Stephanie Plum returns in her twenty-fourth thriller as mutilated corpses litter the streets of New Jersey… Trouble comes in bunches for Stephanie Plum. First, professional grave robber and semi-professional loon, Simon Diggery, won’t let her take him in until she agrees to care for his boa constrictor, Ethel. Stephanie’s main … Stephanie’s main qualification for babysitting an extremely large snake is that she owns a stun gun—whether that’s for use on the wandering serpent or the petrified neighbors remains to be seen.
Events take a dark turn when headless bodies start appearing across town. At first, it’s just corpses from a funeral home and the morgue that have had the heads removed. But when a homeless man is murdered and dumped behind a church Stephanie knows that she’s the only one with a prayer of catching this killer.
If all that’s not enough, Diesel’s back in town. The 6-foot-tall, blonde-haired hunk is a man who accepts no limits—that includes locked doors, closed windows and underwear. Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli isn’t pleased at this unexpected arrival nor is Ranger, the high-powered security consultant who has his own plans for Stephanie.
As usual Jersey’s favorite bounty hunter is stuck in the middle with more questions than answers. What’s the deal with Grandma Mazur’s latest online paramour? Who is behind the startling epidemic of mutilated corpses? And is the enigmatic Diesel’s sudden appearance a coincidence or the cause of recent deadly events?

I found Haercore Twenty-Four to be another hilarious Janet Evanovich read. As the series has grown the crime and mystery aspect seems to have lessened. That doesn’t make Hardcore Twenty-Four any less enjoyable, it’s just different earlier works in the series. Ranger and Morelli are still there with all the complications they bring. Blonde hair Diesel reappears- just as crazy as before. In between the craziness, Stephanie is the caregiver of a fifty-pound boa constrictor. It’s all delightfully crazy.
It’s been a long-time coming, but I’m finally caught up on the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I just finished reading Hardcore Twenty-Four and am looking forward to reading #25 when I get to the bookstore next month (it was just released a month or so ago). 2019 is my year to catch up on every series I enjoy… I’m actually avoiding all new authors until I’m caught up and trim my TBR. I want a fresh, clean start… and now that I’ve got under 200 books on my TBR, it will happen this year! So… #24… Stephanie Plum… a huge snake named Ethel, Diesel (the hot cosmic guy), and zombies. Who wouldn’t love this book?
Seriously… you’ve gotta suspend some disbelief to think all this could happen in Trenton. I’ve only passed through it, but I’d think NYC would win the award for the craziest people. I live here, I see them! I might be one of them given what I’ve already said in this review. Anyways… I digress… kinda like the focus in this book. It was definitely repetitive and format-driven, but it’s still hilarious as all get-out (what an expression!). Lula saves these books every single time. She’s TOO REAL. I know a few women like her in attitude, not quite looks, although one or two fit the bill. I have had some of these conversations when it comes to chicken in a bucket, donuts and guns. Although it’s not guns being shot or cars exploding in my life, it’s getting locked out of apartments or losing drivers licenses. How do people make the same mistakes over and over again! At least it makes me laugh.
I needed Diesel. Joe was getting old. Ranger is on the border of getting old. Not in age, just tiresome activities. I kinda want Diesel to win Stephanie’s heart now. I also want something to happen to Connie so the duo can try to save her from whatever crime is going on around town. That said… the mystery behind the drugs and zombies was very 2018 modern. It’s happening all the time, just not with decapitated heads and brains. If you haven’t read this book, you probably think my review is whackadoodle. But seriously, this book will make you laugh so hard you have to change your underwear… but don’t wear it on your head like one of the characters does in the book.
Evanovich knows her audience. 25 of these books might be a bit much, but in small doses, these are the kinda books to make you enjoy reading all over again. I wonder who will replace her when she stops writing them… who’s a similar style author? Or should I turn into that author… maybe Kellan is the next Stephanie Plum!
Janet Evanovich is one of my favorite authors. Hardcore Twenty-Four continues with the perils of Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter. Janet consistently entertains the reader with a quick wit, hilarious story, and two (and in this book three) gorgeous men. I recommend this book and can’t wait for Twenty-five!
Well Janet has done it again. I don’t think I can ever get tired of Stephanie Plum and the gang. These books are always laugh out loud funny and this one is no different. Stephanie Plum the bounty hunter from hell.
In this story Stephanie and Lula are up to their old tricks again. This time their shenanigans has zombies chasing them. To top off all Stephanie’s troubles she comes home to find Diesel in her apartment. With her sometimes boyfriend Morelli and hot as sin Ranger always chasing her around Diesel just spells trouble in Stephanie’s love triangle. Then there is the fact that she is now the proud god mother to a 50 pound boa. What more could go wrong?
This book was so funny. Grandma is up to her old tricks and entertaining as hell. I absolutely love these books. They are full of fun and entertainment that will have you smiling and laughing for days. Not to mention I love the sexual tension between Stephanie, Ranger and Morelli. It is almost as if they share her in all ways. 😉 They definitely share responsiblity for her safety. Is it too early to open the liquor cabinet? 😉
I can not wait for the next story to see if Diesel keeps his promise. Oh la la.
Janet Evanovich’s Hardcore Twenty four is as good as the first…and that is saying something! This is my second favorite author, and the stories are amazingly funny, and realistic…she will make you laugh til you cry, …or pee a little!! I HAVE NOT READ ANYTHING THIS FUNNY in this genre EVER…SHE is the QUEEN of this. Even my 70’s something Father LOVES these books…her characters are HILARIOUS, and the situations she gets into…you feel as though you are there with them, while these scenes play out…FANTASTIC STORYTELLING, and a series you don’t want to miss. Need something a little crazy and a lot funny while homebound during the covid-19 pandemic? HARDCORE TWENTY-FOUR by Janet Evanovich is just the ticket! Stephanie, Ranger, Joe, and Diesel fill in the social distancing gaps.
It’s always a fun an entertaining read.
I have been a fan of these books since book one. I own every book Janet has written so far and I was afraid her Stephanie Plum series would get repetitive and boring but I was so wrong. She make her story’s pop and they are so exiting I seem to fly through them and then I find myself reading them again and again because Stephanie’s adventures are so captivating and fun and it definitely helps that she has a few handsome men in her life that we get to hear all about. I would definitely recommend any and all of these books.
I absolutely love this series!
A great read even if you haven’t been following the series. Janet Evanovich pulls the reader into the story and makes you fall for her characters. Whenever I open the newest book in the series, it’s like I’m going back home to visit the family and old neighborhood. Can’t wait for the next one!
Hardcore Twenty-Four
I love Janet Evanovich’s books. I have read all from One for the Money to the current one. They are easy to read and the characters are interesting and fun.
I love her books. This was a funny thrill ride
I couldn’t put it down great read
What can I say? Janet Evonovich always produces without getting old. Love her.
very formulaic but the characters are great!
ALWAYS! Janet is the best. Laughing till tearful. Recommend, recommend, recommend. If you like your romance unpredictable and hilarious…go for it.
If you’ve read one Stephanie Plum novel, you’ve basically read them all. The set up is always the same, but nonetheless they are a fun read. In this installment, Stephanie and Lula are trying to apprehend two skips. One of the skips has a large python snake that must be captured, returned to its owner’s double-wide and fed. In the process of attempting to wrangle the snake, the pair is chased by zombies that smell like rot and carnations. Have zombies really come to Jersey? Are they responsible for stealing the heads off of cadavers and removing their brains? In the mean time, Granny is on the hunt for fresh meat of her own, in the form of a possible George Hamilton look alike in Florida. And as always, there’s some action concerning the love quadrangle between Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger, and Diesel.
An entertaining read that can be done in a short sitting or two. It’s well worth the laughs it provides.
“It isn’t good,” Lula said. “There’s putrefied groundhog guts and gravy all over the place.”
This was the best Stephanie Plum novel I’ve read in a while. Some of the things that routinely happen to Stephanie actually didn’t happen in this one. No car explosion. No kidnapping. It was a breath of fresh air. Well, except for those groundhog guts.
Well, Stephanie is very popular in the man department, lucky for her. I wonder if Lulu will ever have half of her luck in that department but either way Lulu is content and she is really a good friend to Stephanie. This time around their adventures are more of the thriller version. Still comical, entertaining and of course there’s always Ranger….. Another audio book borrow from my local library, I enjoyed listening as I work from home.
Will read anything by Janet E!
