This life isn’t one that I chose for myself. Years spent as a daughter in the Dominion MC left me washed up and struggling to breathe. Life was never flowers and sunshine. It was gravel and dust, the trails of dirt left behind when the brothers tore out, floating up from the ground to hover in front of an angry, red sun. I could never have imagined that a life sitting at rock bottom could … rock bottom could get any worse, but it did.
Life is funny like that.
Just when you think things can’t get any more bleak, a shade is drawn leaving you staggering and blind – lost in a world of heartache and sorrow.
I met J.D. Brooks on the road and he swept me off my feet. Literally. But not in the way you might think.
He was both an angel and a demon.
He was the most vicious storm that ever darkened my life.
He was also my salvation.
Stripped from the hands that always held me back, I was released into a nightmare that would threaten everything I thought I knew about the crap hand I’d been dealt.
I thought I could never hate a man more than the one who stole me from the life I’d known.
And in our time together, he would teach me one important lesson:
That in the end, it doesn’t matter how our paths intersect, because when it comes down to the basic truth of our lives…
…we’re all stuck traveling down hard roads.

He stole her from the life she hated as a club brat. As the daughter of the Dominion President she grew up in the MC club life. Growing up in the MC with a group of bikers taught Holly how to be resilient to men’s sexual behavior. She grew to embrace her assets and use her body as a means to soften and weaken the toughest of men. She was a fierce firecracker of a woman. Her rebellious nature was par for the course in this biker story. However, when her mother died she wanted to escape the life she knew.
Overall:
Holly was a tough as nails character. Growing up with a bunch of tough guys toughened her up. She didn’t hold back. She had attitude and spunk. This girl came kickin’ and screamin’. She a badass.
When I see the words MC I usually look the other way. This is not a genre I’m particularly fond of. With that said I knew with Lily behind the words this would be more than a typical MC story. With Lily I’ve come to expect more.
The hateful banter between them was like foreplay. Between the biting, the kicking, and the screaming I was amped up for these two characters to explode sexually off these pages.
Lily unashamedly allows her female characters to get lost in the desire that flows within there body in reaction to a man’s sexual need. It’s her survival mechanism toward any man who takes what he wants. Her female characters allow the men to use the body by not breaking down the mind. These women separate the mind and body as a means to survive against dangerous men.
Lily creates the dangerous fantasy of sexual behavior in her characters with the dark taboo unconventional methods. It’s raw and intense hunger. Her female characters are mentally strong. They understand the power of sex as a means to survive. They are confident with their body.
Lily’s characters have a tendency to hit rock bottom. Yet, they remain optimistic in the fight to survive. Even facing a dire situation her female characters tend to internalize the anger and hatred for the evil monsters who take without asking.
Even with a great female character I still lost my spirit in reading this book once Diablo was introduced into the story. I knew what to expect, yet I couldn’t help that my mood changed. It wasn’t the violence or the abuse that bothered me. Something was missing. Lily usually brings her characters to the edge and I didn’t feel that. It was too gloom and doom for awhile. I missed the fight.
I admired the spirit in Holly’s character and her resilience to grow stronger despite the mental and physical abuse.
It wasn’t my favorite book by Lily White. It wasn’t the darkest book she’s written. It’s not as taboo in nature as many of the others. With that said I still enjoy Lily’s words.
The story was well written and flowed very well, I felt a deep connection with all the characters. I was gripped from the start and in the middle the dark side arrived, violent, very graphic and perfect for this story, however for me I felt the story could have carried on with the dark side for longer and felt it built up and then quickly change direction.
Still an amazing read and a totally unique MC book and story, would recommend.
