Jon Reznick is a “ghost”: a black-ops specialist who takes his orders from shadowy handlers, and his salary from the US government. Still mourning the loss of his beloved wife on 9/11, he’s dispatched to carry out a high-level hit. Reznick knows only that it must look like suicide. It’s textbook.
But the target is not the man Reznick expected. The whole setup is wrong. In an instant the … the operation is compromised, and Reznick is on the run with the man he was sent to kill. A man wanted by the FBI, and by a mysterious terrorist organization hell-bent on bringing the United States to its knees. FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein is determined to track him down, and to intercept whatever it is Reznick was sent to do.
When Reznick’s young daughter becomes a pawn in the game, he has to use more than his military training to stay one step ahead of those responsible. Meanwhile, he is the only person who knows the true extent of the threat to national security—and has the stealth and determination to stop it.

This was a good story. It was a little hard to follow at times due to all the characters. It was a fast paced, hard hitting thriller. Jon Reznick is truly a tough assassin but with a soft side for his family. He definitely leans on his instincts and that proves to be a good thing. International espionage, threat to the US, terrorists, senseless killings, good cops, bad cops….this story pretty much has it all.
Very clean, tight plot. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Started this and quit after a couple of chapters. Too “Mission: Impossible” for my taste. To unreal. Not my genre.
good story; characters you can care about; very plausible plot
This was an exciting book right from the start. I didn’t want to stop turning the pages to see what was going to happen next as there were plenty of twists and turns. Reznick is the sort of guy who’s gonna get the job done no matter what, but only if it satisfies him. He’s tough, but has a soft side, too. He’s the kinda guy you would want on your side. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was glad it didn’t end with a cliffhanger. But, I’m real excited to continue this series.
Great series, characters become family!!!
Suspenseful from the beginning to end.
I love cop stories, FBI stories, spy stories…this is an FBI+, and a good one.
Loved this first in the series and I’m on to the next. I love mystery, espionage, and a hero, kind of book! Reading day and night to finish the next in the series so that I can get to the third one! Jon Reznick is great at looking at the whole picture when working to save others.
read all this series and enjoyed them
A good read.
This would make one heck of a movie…action, suspence, spies, patriots, CIA, FBI and traitors.
Joe Reznek is the man working to right wrongs, taking out the bad guys….he thinks. Then he meets the scientist he is to kill and realizes it is a setup. Off he goes with the poor guy stuck in his car trunk through most if the action at the beginning. Joe relies on old members of his team to help but they to are being taken out of the picture
The agonizing part is when Joe realizes his daughter Lauren is held captive along with his mother in law. And the FBI starts calling him to turn over Luntz, the scientist, but he needs Luntz to keep his family safe.
Martha, the smart, no bull talking FBI agent works with him to figure out what is going on. The scary part is the people involved are not all from foreign places but in our own government. The action is fast and furious and seems very real. Several scenes make you hold your breath. This is a filler coaster of a ride and I don’t usually like this type of book…..but this one worked for me and I’ll be recommending to people that love action, spies and great plotting.
