Megan Harrison is the owner of Kinky Spurs. She’s mortgaged up to her eyeballs and works long days and nights, but she’s living life on her terms, not on her wealthy father’s. She’s done being in the cattle rancher’s shadow. She’s got it all figured out, except for the part that involves Nash Blackshaw. He’s a sexy as hell cowboy whose smile can easily charm her out of her tight jeans. The only … The only problem is–their fathers were business rivals, and Megan and Nash have been taught to hate each other since birth.
Nash Blackshaw, a retired professional bull rider, has responsibilities on top of responsibilities. With his PBR career over due to back injury, and his focus narrowed on heading up the Blackshaw Cattle Company’s Guest Ranch, he shouldn’t have time to think about all the ways he wants Megan. But it’s all he thinks of around the sassy and sweet woman. She might be forbidden to him, but Nash wants to take her for a hard, kinky ride.
But small towns have a way of spreading gossip like wildfire, and not everyone is happy about their relationship. Especially when Megan drops a bombshell on Nash after one heated night between them. As much as Megan and Nash want to forget the old feud between their fathers and lose each other in explosive passion, they can’t escape reality. They are meant to be enemies, and Nash’s sizzling, dominant touch might not be enough to keep them together.

I really enjoyed this book because of the sexual chemistry between Megan and Nash that starts building from the first chapter and rages hotter than a five alarm fire. I think It really enhances the book and gives both characters someone to hold on to when acts of sabotage make it look like the vendetta between their families isn’t over by a long shot. This is a complex family drama and I really liked the way Nash’s siblings support him and each other because they desperately need this venture to work for them to be successful. I was really impressed with cool, calm and collected Megan who is a sexy and strong character not prone to hysterics so she’s a great female role model during the day but she loves being bossed around when the sun goes down. Great characters, plenty of sex to spice things up and lots of suspense are a dynamite combination and this book is a winner. I can’t wait to read the first two books in this series. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
Hard-Riding Cowboy by Stacey Kennedy is book Three in the Kinky Spurs Series. This is the story of Nash Blackshaw and Megan Harrison. I have read the previous book, so for me it was a standalone book. Nash and Megan father have been revivals and so they have always been at odds with each other but their feelings for each other have been the opposite. When they can no longer fight their desire it leads to a unexpected consequence. Now they need to work together to get past their issues and find their happy ending. Always enjoy Ms. Kennedy’s writing and will be looking for more book by her.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, which is the 3rd book in the Kinky Spurs series. Nash and Megan have been circling each other but their families are enemies. Finally, they fall for each other and they find common ground. But will the family dynamics prevent them from actually being together? I liked the characters and especially, seeing the other couples from the prior books. I thought that Megan’s character was a little too naive and accepting of poor behavior which lowered my opinion of her character. However, in general, the interaction between the couple was good and i was quite immersed in the story.
Chloe Ryan was great although i would have preferred a dual narration. Her male voice was good but seemed a tiny bit forced. However, overall, I think she did great in general.

Nash and Meghan had a love/hate relationship for a long time. One fateful evening both their lives changed.
Nash is outspoken, independent, hardheaded just like her father. Both their fathers were enemies and had an ongoing feud. All Meghan wants to do is have the bickering stop. Nash’s ranch is still having problems, He has his suspensions who’s behind it. If he confronts Clint, he may lose Meghan.
Chloe Ryan narration is very good. I enjoyed listening to this story.

I’ve listened to the second and now third books in this series, but have not listened to the first book. I think you could easily enjoy this one without listening to either of the others. I was impressed with how much I liked the story. It was complex without being overly dramatic, and my favorite of the two I listened to.
I listened to the Audible version. Chloe Ryan as a narrator did a great job reading the story as written, but there were a couple missed opportunities to make it really fantastic and bring it to life more (for example, talking through a coughing attack was just talking). It was really good and consistent, just not embellished.

Hard-Riding Cowboy
Kinky Spurs, Book 3
By: Stacey Kennedy
Narrated by: Chloe Ryan
Stacey Kennedy’s third book in her Kinky Spurs series is just as good as the first! Featuring a different Blackshaw brother in each, we get the story of Nash. He is finding his new normal after a career ending injury and just has not found his new niche. But his love interest of Meghan Harrison is still burning strong and now years after wanting to be with her is going for it. Meghan has always been off limits, due to a family feud, but these two just cannot stay away from each other any longer. Circumstances as they are though, Meghan finds it increasingly difficult to deal with the animosity. Will these two find a way to beat the odds and mend the families? Much like the Hatfield and McCoys, it’s a fun western listen without the rifles! Meghan is a little naive at times, thinking years of anger can be dissipated in a conversation, but she does find ways to get her point across. Nash is stubborn, but he realizes what is important. And who better to steer him into a career path than his mom! The family is tight knit, we get glimpses of our favorite characters and once again the dog is crashing the table! It’s a steamy, love filled story .
Chloe Ryan brings the story to life with her fantastic narration. I enjoy her voice. She has voices that fit each character and she fills the conversations with gentle nuances bringing all the emotions to the top. I loved her performance.

Hard-Riding Cowboy
Kinky Spurs, Book 3
By: Stacey Kennedy
Narrated by: Chloe Ryan
Stacey Kennedy delivers another amazing “Kinky Spurs” novel. I am loving this series and it’s characters. Each book featured a different Blackshaw brother, I recommend the entire series and enjoying the books the books in order, the back story about their family ranch continues in each book. This is Nash and Megan’s story, a Romeo and Juliet type love story without a tragic ending. Megan is Clint Harrison’s daughter, the Harrison’s and Blackshaw’s have history, they are rivals and there was bad blood between Clint and Nash’s late father. Megan and Clint were always drawn to each other, but never acted because it would be too complicated, that did not stop them from going at each other verbally. Then they finally gave in to their desires for a wonderfully hot time together. I adored these two characters, their complexity, their strength and determination. Sure Nash has his issues dealing with a career ending injury feeling like a failure of sorts. Leave it to his Mom to point out what he would be great at and help send him in the right direction. Megan wants to remain strong and independent, not wanting to rely on her father’s wealth for anything. She also wants peace, no more family feud, but that may be asking a lot after several incidents of sabotage at the Blackshaw ranch. I loved how everything plays out in this book, there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, a nice surprise, heartfelt moments and some hot romance. Stacey Kennedy, thank you for another great story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Chloe Ryan is a talented narrator and voice artist. She was perfectly casted to portray these characters and bring them to life. She does a great job covering both male and female characters, changes roles flawlessly without missing a beat. She sets the perfect tone for the story, adds a slight dramatic flair which enhances an already great story another level. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen
My first Stacey Kennedy book and I found it fairly well written, although to much inner turmoil at times!! I look forward to reading more in the future.
Loved Megan.. even through the fear she faced her fears and stood for what she wanted. The Blackshaws have the family dynamic I truly always wished for… do I need to own a farm to get it ? Lol slightly joking.
Hard Riding Cowboy is book three in the Kinky Spurs series by Stacey Kennedy. This was the first book that I have read of the series so even though it was the last of the series it made me go back and read the other two as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series and highly recommend that you read the whole series as well.
Hard-Riding Cowboy is the third and final title in the Kinky Spurs series, and I’ve read and enjoyed the previous two novels in this series, which feature the Blackshaw brothers, but this one is definitely my favorite, and it gets 4.5 stars from this reader.
Nash is the youngest of the Blackshaw brothers, and a world champion professional bull rider, but his last ride was really his last ride, leaving him with severe spinal injuries and ending his career with the PBR that he so loved. After their father died, his 3 sons realized that their cattle ranch was in the red due to losing accounts to the neighboring ranch and its land hungry owner, Clint Harrison, and that they just might lose it. The feud between the Blackshaws and Hamiltons has been an ongoing thread that ties these novels together. The feud goes way back, and the death of the Blackshaw family patriarch did nothing to stop the feud–the sons picked up where their father left off. In order to save the Blackshaw ranch, they turned it into a guest ranch, and are struggling to make it a success, all while Nash tries to figure out what to do with his life when all he cared about was bull-riding–and one more thing, his neighbors’ daughter, Megan Harrison.
Independent, strong-willed, hard-working Megan, owns and operates the local watering hole, Kinky Spurs, and is making a success of it. Megan has had a serious crush on Nash since grade school, but having watched the handsome and sexy cowboy flirt with all the ladies for years, she’s treated his flirting pursuit of her as a game–she doesn’t mind being chased by him, and he doesn’t mind doing the chasing, but since she doesn’t want to end up like all of this short-term girlfriends/bed partners, and she has avoided falling prey to his charms for years. That all changes when Megan and Nash are at the wedding of his brother and Megan’s best friend. After the obligatory wedding party dance, the two finally give in to their long-time attraction, sneak away and have sex, but Megan is quick to inform Nash that this lapse of her better judgment is a one and done. Ha! Nash wasn’t buying it, and neither was I.
Two months after the wedding, Nash notices that Megan is different somehow, cooler, and that she hasn’t been engaging in their flirting game the way she once did. When he presses her for answers, she finally admits to being pregnant with his child, and Nash is stunned speechless. He’s wanted Megan for as long as she’s wanted him, and once he gets past the shock, he mans-up and is actually happy about becoming a father, but there’s one huge problem–Megan’s father, who’s always hated Nash, and who Nash knows is not going to be thrilled to hear that Nash knocked-up his daughter, and so they wait several weeks before telling any of their parents, but they can’t hide it forever.
It’s bad enough that the family feud is ongoing, but when Nash and his brothers discover that their cattle are missing and that someone cut the fence between the two ranches, they assume it’s just another way that Megan’s father is trying to get their land. That incident is soon followed by even more dangerous incidents, all of them highly suspicious, and all of them leading to the person who will benefit most from these evil deeds, Clint Hamilton. All Megan wants is a safe, happy environment for their child to grow up in, but Nash has a hot temper, and after breaking the news about her pregnancy to her parents, outraging her father that she’s pregnant by one of the Blackshaw brothers, the arguments become more frequent and much more nasty.
What I absolutely loved about this novel is the relationship between Nash and Megan, who are both hesitant to reveal their deep feelings for one another. There is so much sweetness and caring between these two fully-fleshed out characters, and the rest of the Blackshaw family as well. I’m so used to secret-pregnancy romances where the father of the secret-baby at first denies being the father, and assumes the baby was fathered by someone else. Not so in this novel. It was heartwarming to see how pleased Nash was to learn that he was going to be a father, the care and concern he shows to Megan, opening up about himself, his dreams and his feeling that the loss of his career left him confused and adrift with what to do now. I loved the way these two characters took it slow, something Megan insisted upon, and their many conversations, many ending up in some seriously steamy sex scenes, all made the reader feel that these were real people, trying to deal with real problems, real doubts, and with their own feelings for each other.
As incidents at the Blackshaw guest ranch escalate, Nash is nearly killed trying to rescue 3 foundling kittens from inside their burning barn, and when the fire is ruled as arson, and the next disaster follows on its heels–all the guests at the ranch come down with food poisoning, and Nash is beyond livid, and confronts Clint yet again, and the fighting and arguing continue, all in front of Megan.
Will these two men ever comes to terms with their love of Megan and the baby she’s carrying? Will they ever settle their differences? Megan doesn’t really believe it, and the decisions she makes thereafter add some twists and turns to the plot. Putting her baby’s future first, Megan has her priorities straight, makes her own decisions about what to do, and if her father and the Blackshaws can’t settle this feud, they’ll both lose her and her baby.
The only negative in this novel, in my opinion, are a few loose ends, and there are several of them, but to explain them here would would mean giving spoilers, and I won’t do that. It also took me quite a few chapters before I fully understood Megan and her need to earn her own living, make her own decisions, and take charge of her life, and I came to love and respect her midway through the novel, and in one of the sweetest HEA endings it’s been my pleasure to read.
This well-written and well-plotted novel is loaded with the warmth and love of family, two charming main characters, a good amount of spice, lots of tension, and I read it all in one sitting, which ended at 5:00 a.m. this morning. Who needs sleep when you’ve got an un-put-downable novel in your hands? Certainly not this reader. I’m only sorry that the series is at an end, it was thoroughly enjoyable and I’m happy to recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
My rating: 4-stars.
It really pains me to not be able to give this book the 5-stars I was hoping I could honestly give it. Honestly, I was left feeling underwhelmed.
In DTC and SLC there was some teasing of the sexual tension between the two main characters. Nash Blackshaw and Megan Harrison. However, I think doing that ended up hurting the overall book. All the built-up sexual tension between the two characters was nonexistent in this book. Maybe I’m spoiled but I love reading all the teasing and slow burn between the two main characters that want each other in the most physical ways.
Nash is the youngest of the Blackshaw brothers. He is quick tempered and it’s a hot one. He is passionate. After suffering a career-ending injury he has lost himself and his way in life.
Megan owns and runs Kinky Spurs. The bar is her life. Megan’s father is Clint Harrison. He and Nash basically hate each other.
Things happen to Nash and Megan. Things that change both of their lives.
Will the hatred between Nash and her father prevent Megan from getting closer to Nash? You’ll have to read the book to find out. 😉
Now don’t get me wrong I did enjoy reading the book and I think it’s a good book. However, I think it lacked some of the burning hot chemistry that I believe was foreshadowed in both of the previous books.
If you like reading sweet and sensual romances with some suspense mixed in then the Kinky Spurs series is for you.
*ARC provided for my honest review.*
Wow, just Hard Riding Cowboy Wow!. Stacey Kennedy hits out of the park with this edition of Kinky Spurs and the story of Nash Blackshaw and Megan Harrison. They have played at each other since high school, but it only took one night of passion for them to realize that they couldn’t stay away from one another.
Page-turning ever step of the way.
Small town, ranchers/cowboys, one-night stand, surprise baby, feuding families, girl squad goals, interconnected standalone.
Fast-moving story with plenty of character insight along the way. Piles in action, drama, emotion, but doesn’t overwhelm. Megan Harrison and Nash Blackshaw have explosive chemistry, in the best possible way. Unfortunately, the Harrisons and the Blackshaws historically have a relationship that could also be described as explosive, but in messy and destructive ways. With support from his brothers and her friends, Megan and Nash start to build something together, but sabotage at the Blackshaw Ranch puts everyone on edge.
I’ve read quite a few of Stacey Kennedy,s books, and have enjoyed them all, Hard Riding Cowboy is yet another one to add to the list. Love the Blackshaw brothers, Nash is a bit lost after his career ending bull riding injury, but that doesn’t stop him for going after his childhood crush, Megan. Megan ends up pregnant after their one night stand, but there’s trouble between Nash and Megan’s father, something that started between the two fathers when Nash’s dad was still alive. Loved Nashes ability to turn troubled horses into gentle giants, loved Gus, Bentley, and the kittens, adored the Blackshaw family dynamics. Didn’t care for Megan’s irrational expectation that everyone get along for the sake that her child growing up in a loving environment for its entire life, reality check definitely needed. Story was a bit long, but loved the ending.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
With Nash and Megan story, the Kiky Spurs novels come to an end. As we see from the previous books Megan and Nash had some kind of catch game they play through the years. The feud fight from their fathers is the one that they can not enjoy or start a relationship but everything changes. Will Nash be a bigger man and will bury the ax with Megan father? After injury end Nash carrier as a bull rider, he falls in very dark place but Megan is there to lift him up and he finds new meaning in life to fight. The story is sweet we see how do they develop trough book to both become even better persons. We see also how the previous couples are and, is really great end of a lovely trilogy.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
We’re on a cowboy binge! The previous two Blachshaws have been filled with heat and passion; and Nash is no different; with his desire to roping up Meghan every chance their alone and even making sure their alone to do it. But Kennedy throws in a twist with a surprise pregnancy between the ill-fated lovers. In a spin on the Romeo & Juliet familial feud, Nash and Meghan have danced around their attraction to one another their entire lives. While Meghan doesn’t fully understand or support the feud, Nash struggles with it while working on the Blackshaw ranch. He has a deep hatred for Meghan’s father and it could be something that comes between their HEA.
A lot of this book is spent back and forth between Meghan’s ability to handle the two men her life hating one another and her need to be independent. Every time Nash seems to take one step forward, another accident or mishap at the ranch leads him to believe her father had a hand it and pushes them two steps back. The will-they, wont-they makes for entertainment while Nash deals with the mysterious setbacks at the ranch. I kept wondering if Megan’s father truly had something to do with it all. And my heart broke for her thinking he could’ve been guilty.
I would call this a second chance romance only because Meghan and Nash seem to need multiple tries at trusting each other before realizing what it will take to truly be happy. All along their story theirs also a romance for Jenny Blackshaw (the boys’ mother), a stray mama cat and her kittens (#smitten), and Nash’s discovery of how his bull-riding accident truly affected him years ago. Absolutely a romance about overcoming all obstacles including accidents, family feuds, self-doubt, and pride. A wonderful, heartfelt (and sexy!) end to the Blackshaw series!
I requested and received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. I voluntarily read this book and my review contains my own thoughts and opinions.
This book was a rather quick read. It kept my interest and made me want to keep on reading it. Megan and Nash find themselves giving into the attraction that they have for each other despite the history of family rivalry. Nash has to figure out how to put his hatred for Megan’s Dad aside if he wants to keep her happy.
There’s lots of drama in this story that keeps the reader hooked!
Steamy, forbidden and oh so sweet! The sexy temptation blossoming between Megan and Nash is electrifying on the pages from the start, and the sweetness when we see them together just makes it all even better. They’re really adorable together! My first of the series, but it was easy to pick up on the rest of the family. Really enjoyed it!
Megan Harrison is living life on her terms now that she’s starting to make a success of her bar Kinky Spurs. She’s put long hours and everything she owns into the place, so she can’t let up for a minute or it will slip through her fingers. One distraction that she doesn’t seem to be able to kick is Nash Blackshaw.
Nash has been off-limits for all of her life because of a family feud lasting more than their lifetimes. She knows she shouldn’t be interested, but what’s a girl to do when the only one to push all of her buttons in just the right kinda way is bad boy Nash. When the one night they gave in to their passion leads to a shocking announcement, they have to figure out if they are all in regardless of the fireworks it’s going to start between their families … or all out.
