Cold. Callous. Cocky.A total playboy with abs for days, a panty-melting smirk, and a face the gods themselves would be jealous of.And he’s my new boss.None of that matters, because as a single mom, men like Alexander Harding are the last thing I need. What I do need is this job, so I’m going to keep my head down, work hard, and avoid that asshole as much as humanly possible. But then he gives me … then he gives me an offer I can’t refuse, even though everything inside of me is warning me to run away and never look back.
It’s just one weekend.
One weekend to convince a potential client that Alexander has changed from the player who spent more time in the bedroom than the boardroom into a family man they’d be happy to go into business with.
But the more time I spend with him, the more I realize that there might be a beating heart buried under his designer shirts and spectacular pecs after all…which is bad news for me.
Because the only thing worse than hating your boss is falling in love with him.
Hard Place is a FULL LENGTH novel, and book one in the Hard To Love Series

Not my first read form the author, she happens to be ONE OF MY FAVORITE authors! So I am very familiar with her writing style and the fact this is a start to a new SERIES gah, gold!!
Boy does this book start off with a bang! Struggle on top of struggle, you will feel all the feels of this single mom of two twin-daughters. Harper is a 25 year old beautiful, smart and happy personality single mom. Who happens to be struggling in many ways that is, when she gets offered a promotion in sorts, she really doesn’t have a choice and jumps at the chance to get a little ahead in life. She has lost so much and one night many moons ago wasn’t the right idea but the outcome is as beautiful. Little did she know though, the prick from the other night who stole her parking spot at the new school…is her new boss! BOOM!
Alex is a cocky, successful handsome man. He is well known for his worth ethic, rather enjoys it along with his string of non-string attachments if you will. But behind closed doors he is just a man who was mistreated in his childhood, who wasn’t shown love but brutality of the hard life at such a young age. He himself is sick of the long working nights, no one to really come home to and the nameless meaningless sex. When he finally get’s a spark from a woman, he can never really have her. SO MUCH IN BETWEEN!!
Alex loves Harper’s smile because it lights up the room and Harper can’t not look at the cocky but so sad boss of hers who wears the shit out of a suit! *sweating* When one night proves to be almost fate, this is where you fall in love with Alex *swoon swoon swoon* aside from all, he really does have a beautiful heart and mid-way you’ll see why! It shocked the hell out of Harper almost missing a beat to the lie. Since then things seem to smooth out enough to where Harper is talking to Alex again and not just work related. It’s all great until you REALLY can’t deny fate. It’s just so beautiful, two broken people in their own way to come together and GAH just swoony and beautiful! YES THAT’S A WORD, GO WITH IT! B U T not all lies even good intention ones are without fault, this is heartbreaking one too!! #havetissues
This enemy-to-lovers office romance is PERFECT. A great start to a new series and a MUST READ! You’ll get both POV’s, perfect hero and heroine, side characters and adorable little twin girls. It feels so real when you’re reading it, like it’s happening there so you know I don’t need to say much more about Emily’s writing style, it’s perfection!

5 Lemonade Stars!!
When life gives you lemons…
No one knows better than Harper how to make lemonade out of the lemons life hands her. She’s one tough mama with the most adorable twin girls, and you can’t help fall in love with them all. And let’s not forget the hot as hell Alex. Totally swoony but also broody.
I loved this first installment of this new series and cant wait to hear more from all these amazing characters. Because that ending has me already feigning!
Harper is a frazzled, hard-working mom of twins whose first meeting with her new boss is less than pleasant. And that was before she found out who he was. Oh boy…but once these two meet on mutual ground, they find there’s an attraction that neither wants or has time for. She needs this job, so she cannot possibly have a thing with her boss. He needs to impress a potential client, though, so will she pretend to help him close the deal? What about when feelings catch fire?
Hard Place is a great start to a new series. It’s a slow burn office romance with lots of tension, witty, snarky dialogue and chemistry that is obvious from their very first, not so cute meeting. Now I can’t wait for Hard Truth. October can’t come soon enough for this reader!

This book is so fun and I love the story-line in this book. The characters develop through out the book and both have faults and strengths. You feel like you could actually picture both of the main characters. The romance in this book is not straight forward and first love. This book has the romance going up and down and twist and turns. This book is worth checking out.
Note: not a stand-alone
The ending left you hanging, no real conclusion to the story. I think it’s the author’s way of getting you to buy the next book in the series. Very disappointing.
This is the first book that I have read by Emily Goodwin and it won’t be the last. I can’t wait to read the next chapter in Harper and Alex’s story. Harper is a strong women, raising twin girls by herself. Alex is her boss and extremely handsome. They laugh, have a good time together before they actually get together. I highly recommend this book. I would have given 5 stars except for a few graphical errors. But it doesn’t take away from story. You’ll be glad you read this book.
Great characters and storyline. Its fun to watch her character develop and grow within the story. I was able to fall into the book, relax and enjoy a good distraction from this crazy pandemic! Very enjoyable book
sweet
Looking forward to book 2
Ends on a cliffhanger. And this cliffhanger is one that makes me not really want to continue. I thinks she’s great for him. He’s got potential. Not sure it’s another book worth though.
I loved this story about a single mom that struggles to çare for her twin girls and falls in love with her billionaire boss.
cliff hanger
I wish all books could be thos entertaining
This book does end on a cliffhanger . There is a part two but it is well worth the second book to read it. Loved the chemistry and the build up to the second book.
This is book 1.. it ends in a cliffhanger… Ugh! Very frustrated reading series.
This is the first book in a trilogy/series ABOUT THE SAME COUPLE. The entire book is the very beginning stages of their relationship. They are just beginning to connect on more than a surface level when this book ends in a CLIFFHANGER. I am not a fan of this style of story (multiple books to get to a possible HEA) and rarely move on to book two because book one doesn’t draw me into the characters’ relationship enough.
Great read
When I finished reading “Hard Place” (nook) I was disappointed that the story was not at an end. The story was well-written and I enjoyed the progression of the love between Harper and Alexander.
However, I wanted a conclusion and a Happily-Ever-After. The overview did not mention that I would need to purchase the next book.
A minor distraction was that a bit more editing was needed.
I am rooting for Harper. She is this amazing woman that made a crazy decision one night and is now a single parent to twin girls. She is doing everything she can to provide the best life for her daughters but it isn’t easy. She gets an opportunity for a better paying job, what she doesn’t expect is the grump of a boss she has to assist, Alex. Yet, she perseveres because when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Alex is carrying the weight of the company on his shoulders. He is so ready for his father to retire but he keeps hanging on with his overbearing and abusive ways. When Harper shows up as his new assistant, well, he doesn’t know what to think of her positive attitude while her beauty captivates him. Knowing she is a single mother is even more inspiring. But Alex doesn’t do relationships and Harper doesn’t do one-night stands. When Alex needs a huge favor, Harper agrees to be his fake girlfriend. As they spend several days together, will Harper’s optimism show Alex what he is missing? Alex has grown so much as he realizes he has been living in his father’s shadow which has him emulating his behavior, the worst thing he can imagine. I am fully invested in Harper and Alex’s story. I hate that we ended on a cliff hanger that opens up so many questions but I know part 2 is going to be amazing. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
