The #1 bestselling phenomenon continues in the eighth Stephanie Plum novel. The stakes get higher, the crimes get nastier, the chases get faster, and the men get hotter. This time Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger. Lula, Valerie, and Grandma Mazur are strapped in for the ride of their lives. Stephanie is hired to find a missing child. But things aren’t always as they seem and Stephanie must determine if … must determine if she’s working for the right side of the law. Plus, there’s the Morelli question: can a Jersey girl keep her head on straight when more than just bullets are aimed for her heart? And with the Plum and Morelli relationship looking rocky, is it time for Ranger to move in for the kill? Janet Evanovich’s latest thriller proves that Hard Eight will never be enough.

I enjoy all the books in this series … would recommend all of her books to anyone enjoying great characters and laughing till tears fall
I have been saying it from book 1 that Stephanie needs to get a different job! It was complete craziness from page 1 that didn’t stop until the final word. It did my heart good to see St. Valerie get knocked on her butt and as always Grandma and Lula made it GREAT! I’m not so happy about Joe being back. Guess we will see how that goes.
Love her Stephanie Plum books have read them all
Stephanie Plum is hilarious and fun. Laugh out loud funny but also handles some serious problems. I so recognize the Jersey girl! Have fun with it!
This book is a full of action. Janet Evanovich creates the most unusual characters. The narrator, Lorelei King, is fabulous! She is the absolute best at creating entertaining voices. You have no trouble differentiating between characters. Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter, is a street smart Jersey girl. Those street smarts come in real handy as well as having her “bodyguards” Ranger and Morelli. Stephanie is in danger. Snakes, spiders, rabbits and bears all seem to be after her. Some are actually human. She must be part cat – she seems to have nine lives.
love the book
Scary! Stephanie is the target of a war game that has the ultimate battle.
What do you say that hasn’t been said? This book is so good! A little more mystery and a little more steam in this Stephanie Plum novel. As usual, the author had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation at times, but would ease my nerves with her quick wit and humor. I’ve already started book nine!
I enjoy the theme of these books, but there is an over abundance of swearing within them. I stopped reading them arouns book nine because the swearing got to be too much.
Just a fun read in a super series !
4 out of 5 stars to Hard Eight, the 8th book in the “Stephanie Plum” cozy mystery series, written in 2002 by Janet Evanovich. OK… so I cannot figure out for the life of me how Ms. Evanovich comes up with the hilarity in these characters. It’s absolutely amazing to see the varying degrees of lunatics Stephanie has to deal with. In this book, it’s less about one particular mystery, although there is a driving case she is working on. There are about 10 skips (bail jumpers) she’s trying to chase, all the while solve little crimes and issues throughout the lives of her friends, family, and the people she’s trying to capture whom she takes a liking to. She’s in the wrong profession, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It gives me a regular dose of humor to enjoy. The main story, about a kidnapped child, though not funny, is handled quite well. You never know who to root for in these books. Sometimes I wanna see Stephanie put in these bad situations… I mean who wouldn’t want to watch Lula trying to take control and become her own bail bonds woman.
*SPOILERS!!!* This… This is the novel where Stephanie and Ranger finally hook up. So… why am I so dissatisfied? Well, think about it. We didn’t get any Joe/Stephanie action for four novels. Four novels, at 300 pages a piece, that’s 1200 pages. It was one of the greatest sex scenes of all time, so it was worth it! Now tack on another four novels for us to get to Ranger/Stephanie. That’s 2400 pages. No Hobbit went further to throw an all powerful evil ring into an active volcano than we readers read to get to this. Ranger… tall, dark, mythically handsome, wicked, sometimes evil, dangerous… you get the picture—I’m seeing the Rock myself. Then read the two lines of text that constitute their sex scene. I’m paraphrasing: Ranger ruined me for all other men… in the morning he did it again. Huh? What? WHAT?????—Alice Bello is the author of Hate Him XOXO and Better off Dead.
Stephanie Plum character is my favorite of all the books I read. All the characters in this book you can relate to. Just pure fun to read.
I love all of her books, good mysteries and a lot of laughs. Always an enjoyable romp.
Stephanie Plum is one of my all-time favorite characters.
Stephanie Plum’s wild adventures in bounty hunting will keep you laughing, add in the sexy Morelli and the mysterious Ranger and you won’t be able to put this book down.
I read this quite awhile ago but I do remember that I love these plum books. They are always funny. Who doesn’t love a ex-ho, big woman, you better not call her fat, sidekick. A gun wielding grandma who disrupts funerals, and now let’s get to the important part, it’s what I call the yum factor, those two men. The two men that if you put them together they would be the perfect man, but in the meantime, huge sigh. Throw in a murder and you have a really fun book. I have read all of them and loved them all.
