From the author of the popular Maternal Harbor comes Harbored Secrets (a contemporary novel with a psychological mystery in the unearthing of family secrets.)
Readers claim the twists and turns are more and more compelling.
In May of 1935, Blinny Platt’s homestead shack burns to the ground forever leaving her family asunder, scattering them like the embers flew on the Montana wind. She was only … flew on the Montana wind. She was only eight years old, sent away and in charge of her little sister. She could handle that because Platts take care of Platts.
However, it is the hidden secrets of her parents smoldering beneath the charred remains that haunts Blinny until 1982. She once again leaves the home place to build a house for herself. As the foundation is poured and the walls go up, each of the hurtful memories are uncovered. Finally the mystery, left in the ashes of the burned home, is revealed. How could her mother do what she did?

I really liked this book. It isn’t the type of book I normally read; but really glad I read it.
‘Harbored Secrets’ was an emotionally engrossing read that took me to the prairie lands where I became part of Blinny’s life. What a life it was, too.! She faced hardships working the land and heartaches caused by both her parents. The twists and turns will keep readers turning pages to find shocking revelations that made Blinny’s life hard to …
A bit hard to engage the reader initially but hang in there. The story will grab you with suspense. An unexpected ending.
Excellent plot and character development. Realistic depiction of life in that era compared to family stories I’ve been told along with family members’ letters and journals that I’ve read.
Harbored Secrets by Marie F. Martin is a story of family secrets on the Montana plains. Blanche “Blinny” Platt’s life has been one filled with longings, loss and betrayal. Losing her mother and newborn baby brother in a tragic house fire, Blinny heard the whispers and gossip but didn’t think of anything about her grief and taking care of her …
Was a little difficult to get through at the beginning because it it keeps going back to her childhood. Characters were well developed although the story line was a bit depressing for my taste.
Loved this story.
Unexpected ending with great characters.
Sad. No joy for any of the characters. Well told story.
I didn’t like this book.
Great characters. Loved the story.
Enjoyed the historical evolutions of families, the individual characters, and the unavoidable comparisons of past & present social norm. Uncomfortable look at place & treatment of genders within families and how ‘the barter system’ was applied to humans & possessions alike.
A complicated story that began with a simple plot and escalated from there!
This was a little odd I though.Half way thru I figured out way.Not for me but maybe for someone else.
Hidden family secrets? Most every family have one or two, so that’s not so much out of the ordinary. The way an artist would use paint to create a picture so does this author with words. Lots and lots of words. Not that much of a story but made long and tedious with too much descriptive verbiage.
Depressing story. Good account of a disfunctional family dynamic.
Enjoyable read, a little slow at times but moves along at a good pace.
Well wort the time!
My favorite book since Jeanette Walls The Glass Castle.
Very good story, well written.
Good read
