Every workplace has that one person you don’t want to mess with. At James & Peterson Investigations, that would be Cameron Grant: sullen, grouchy, intimidating, oh yeah, and sexy as hell. He can make your soul wither with a single disapproving glare. And he never, ever socialises with his co-workers.This is why Maisie Wilkins, happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine, can’t fathom why Cameron finally … fathom why Cameron finally decided to show up at their annual office Christmas party. Every year he received an invite, and every year he failed to attend. But not this year.
Curious as to why he’s there, Maisie can’t resist sitting next to Cameron. Before she knows it, she’s had one too many drinks and is drunkenly hailing a cab back to his place. Office party flings are not something she normally does, but despite his intimidating character, Cameron has a charm she can’t resist. Or maybe it was just those five gin and tonics blurring her judgement.
Whatever the reason, Maisie now has to navigate the awkward, tension filled waters of sharing an office with someone she’s slept with.

SWOONY! Full disclosure–I had an ARC. Second disclosure–LH Cosway is a one click author for me. This story is really good. Maisie’s internal dialog is hilarious. If any of you are old enough to remember the 80’s detective show Remington Steele with Pierce Brosnan, Cameron’s cool, collected exterior is Remington Steele. Loved this book.
4.5 stars!!
Happy-Go-Lucky is a sweet, swoony, opposites attract office romance with a little bit of mystery and a whole lot of heart. Captivating from the start, I couldn’t put it down, and I thoroughly enjoyed Maisie and Cameron’s love story!
Maisie Wilkins, aka Happy-Go-Lucky, is a primary researcher in a private investigation firm. She is such a nice person, always has a smile, and is a pleaser. She cares what people think which is the complete opposite of Cameron Grant. Cameron is the head investigator at the firm. He’s a grouch, albeit a handsome grouch, and someone you don’t mess with. He rarely shows emotion, he definitely doesn’t like to socialize, and unlike Maisie, he doesn’t care what people think or say about him.
When Cameron shows up at the company Christmas party for the first time ever, Maisie heads over to talk to him. He is intimidating but his presence is so unlike him that she can’t let it go, determined to find out why he is there. Little does Maisie know that taking that seat next to Cameron would be the start of a wonderful romance that takes them by surprise.
Maisie and Cameron could not be more different when it comes to the way they act in the work setting but things change the more time they spend together. They connect and realize they actually get along well and enjoy each other’s company. They may share some awkward moments but they are sweet, honest, and entertaining as they navigate their new relationship.
Cameron and Maisie are mature, functional, and so much fun as a couple. The banter, the laughs, and the feels are well written, and every time they are together, I couldn’t stop a smile from forming. They are just so good together with their sweet, swoony, steamy goodness.
“I think life might be too short to deny myself someone as amazing as you.”
I loved that there is so much more to these characters than meets the eye. They are complicated and my heart hurt for them. They offered unconditional support and they understood each other’s pain. They bring out the best in one another, and I could feel what they meant to each other as Cameron and Maisie open up and learn to trust. They both change as the story progresses and the character growth is well developed.
“Happy-go-lucky Maisie might’ve held back her hurt, plastered a smile on her face and pretended everything was hunky-dory. But this Maisie, the new one I’d started to become over the last few weeks, refused to be verbally thrashed by people who were supposed to be my co-workers.”
Though they start out with a bang, Cameron and Maisie’s love story is more of a slow burn romance. There are road blocks that make it hard to be together but they don’t let the challenges ruin what is happening between them. They are honest with their feelings and there isn’t much back and forth or over-the-top drama between them which I found refreshing.
Because of the nature of their jobs, there is a bit of suspense that adds another layer to the story. I love the investigation side and the way the mystery unfolds. It was exciting and I wanted to solve the case as much as they did.
Overall, Happy-Go-Lucky was an entertaining, captivating read that is easy to get lost in. I adored Maisie and Cameron, and I loved the secondary characters, too. I would love for Cameron’s brother, Nick, to get a book, and I also want more of Lilah, especially after the little hint we get of her in the epilogue.
It was so lovely revisiting Cameron and Maisie. I adore their story, it was sweet and a little angsty, with some mystery thrown in. I found Maisie relatable on many levels, avoiding conflict, wanting to get along with everyone sometimes to her own detriment, not wearing swimwear in January, her self doubt. It all struck a chord with me. Then there’s Cameron, quiet, stoic, sometimes downright grumpy, essentially Maisie’s polar opposite. I didn’t know being called tolerable could be so hot until this book. I loved the back and forth of this story, we really only got to see Maisie’s side of things, leaving us to wonder what Cameron was thinking and feeling, that only added to the angst and it was fantastic. Even though they get together in the beginning at the Christmas party, it was a bit of a slow burn after that. This book was also funny and had me laughing several times. Happy-Go-Lucky is an all around great book, highly recommend
I started following this story in the writer’s newsletter and was thrilled when I saw it would be turned into a book.
I identified a lot with Maisie and her eternal desire to please everyone even if it made her suffer. She works at a investigation firm and Cameron is the unreachable guy. Reserved, serious and distant, he dislikes socializing with anyone and is the opposite of the eternal smiling Maisie, but he ends up showing he is so sweet, romantic, cute and intense that he stole my heart.
When at a party, they approach, the whole dynamic of their lives changes. Each one will help the other change for the better and mature. I really enjoyed the interaction with co-workers, especially Lilah and loved the twists and turns of the plot.
L. H. Cosway does not disappoint bringing a light story with lots of humor, touches of suspense, romance and tension. She capricious in the sexy scenes mostly a certain scene in a stationery closet ….. WOW!
I laughed a lot at various moments and the couple conquered me, especially in scenes involving a certain small keepsake card.
5/5 stars
I don’t know how to express how much I love this authors writing. I’m not particularly into grumpy men but she actually makes them attractive to me. Maybe it’s because he’s more honest and straight forward, silent observing and very attentive instead of actually grumpy. The co-working couple couldn’t be more opposite and I was thoroughly entertained by the way they slowly started their relationship and opened up for some changes.
The girl is a people pleaser and she needs to grow a back bone and stand up for herself. She is smiling, caring and going out of her way to help others even if they are rude or ignoring her altogether.
The back story was very interesting as well and I loved the investigations. The characters are so well developed and amazingly ordinary yet so special. I love it when they could have been my friends or neighbors. I’m never sure how much to reveal because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I had a hard time putting it aside to do my work. Great read which I would highly recommend.
L.H. Cosway has another fabulous book with Happy-Go-Lucky!
Maisie and Cameron have worked together at PI firm James & Peterson for years. She has always nursed a bit of a crush on the prickly and intimidating man, but they haven’t spent time together outside their normal job duties. Everything changes the night of their annual office Christmas party.
This book is a great blend of romance and mystery. My absolute favorite part, though, was Maisie really growing into her own. The book is told entirely from her perspective and I loved seeing her change while still keeping her happy outlook on life.
The mystery that threads through the book was well done and kept me guessing with all the twists and turns.
If you read the story via newsletter installments it has been edited and expanded so I highly recommend reading the story again!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This was super lovely.
We have Maisie and Cameron, they both work at a P.I. agency. She’s known for her happy disposition, and he’s…not, lol.
I liked Maisie a lot, sure she was super happy and that bothered some people, but I loved that light in her. I never minded her sharing her happiness and I hated those jerks around the office, trying to put her down. Grr.
Cameron was another thing, he was a good guy, but terrible at work relations, simply because he didn’t care to have one with his coworkers. He simply didn’t care, and that was fun too.
Together they were great, and I loved them working together in cases and solving a mystery. I loved Maisie’s work and how she got the case moving. <3
All in all, a fun and swoony story.
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
Happy-Go-Lucky is a story that will make you smile, make you laugh, make you a tad angry and excited.
I couldn’t help feeling for Maisie. To see how her coworkers treated her was horrible, so it was so fun following her in this story. To see how she grows and becomes more confident in her self.
Then you have the closed off Cameron.
Not seeming to care about anyone but himself. But do we get to see the real Cameron?
Read this book and fall in love with these very different, but funny characters.
This sweet romantic comedy with a twist of a mystery too was one of those books I could not put down. LH Cosway alway writes fantastic characters who clash and enhance each other. The battle for a relationship between these two was unexpected and so fun to watch develop. Grant was gruff, elusive, combative, a loner, and her superior. Maisy was the “happy go lucky girl” always chipper, giving, open and forgiving. But we all know those first looks are only the surface. When they are brought together one drunken office Christmas party night, the outer shell starts to crack and the fun begins.
Maisy works hard, tries hard to make everyone smile, and she’s treated like a doormat by a few of her colleagues. She is a researcher for a PI firm, and does an excellent job. She’s offered a promotion and a chance to train under Grant (waggle eyebrows) she takes it and together they undercover many mysteries layered while getting to know each other.
This was such a fun read, romance, strife, mystery and comedy, all under these covers. Omg this would be the best movie !
I received a copy from the author for a honest review
This was such a sweet love story. I definitely recommend it and this author.
The audible version was also wonderful. And the narrator was fantastic.
Maisie’s bubbliness was part of her charm, but her intelligence was what I liked most. And while, Cameron was a grump, he was extremely observant and honest to a fault. However, even he couldn’t withstand Maisie’s sunshiny disposition:)
The romance was subtle and slow, but very good! I liked the interactions-whether it was work or play-because I never knew if funny, steamy, or in the moment was coming up next- I just knew I’d be grinning like the Cheshire Cat!
I loved Maisie and Cameron! Cosway’s newsletter story whetted my appetite for more of these two and Happy Go Lucky didn’t disappoint! A lovely romance, horrid coworkers, and one heck of a case kept this reader happily turning pages into the evening! I hope this becomes a series of their adventures because I simply adored these two!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was so much fun!! Cranky Cameron and “happy go lucky” Maisie, two people that are COMPLETE opposites, somehow work together, and are HOT HOT HOT! So many twists and turns, thanks in part to the investigation agency they both work at. Both in-office drama and out of office drama…this book kept me hooked from the first page! I highly recommend this book!
I started reading this through the authors newsletter. I did stop only because I was excited that I could read it as a whole instead of chunks. I loved the tension and the push and pull between Maisie and Cameron. Most of the time I was yelling in my head for those two to just make out! I really liked how Cameron was helping Maisie to not be a doormat. That it’s okay to stick up for yourself and not everyone is going to like you. It was fun reading about the investigations they were going on watching them become a couple.
Maisie has always had a happy smile for everyone. She tried to always see the positive. Cameron is the complete opposites. Opposites attract and these two so perfect together. I hope we get some more adventures from these two!
What a sweet office romance, not quite forbidden love, but very much secret love, following Cameron Grant and Maisie Wilkins, nicknamed Happy-Go-Lucky by her parents at a young age because of her happy disposition. Sadly, said disposition seems to be riling a few of her coworkers up, one in particular, Cameron, who it appears, is Maisie’s exact opposite in every way. Working as a researcher at James and Peterson Investigations, a job she loves, means she works alongside their head investigator Cameron quite a bit. Like everyone else in the office she’s used to his intimidating, grumpy and antisocial behaviour, and the fact the Mr Antisocial has turned up to the office Christmas party is completely out of character. The fact that Maisie ends up spending the night with Cameron is also out of character. Herein starts a wonderful friendship/working relationship/not romance that benefits both of them. Their efforts to deny their growing attraction were fun, who knew Mr Tall, Dark and Intimidating could be so passionate. Of course the story has a great detective mystery feel to it (that I loved) and had me (and them) guessing throughout. Lots of plot twists in this thoroughly captivating story. Brilliantly written from Maisie’s POV throughout. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.
Happy-Go-Lucky is one of those novels that turn out to be even more than you had hoped it would be. There were parts of Maisie I could absolutely relate to, and then there were things about Cameron that I totally saw in myself as well. I loved getting to know these two and their romance had me smiling in a rather goofy manner more than once. Because of the nature of their jobs, this story also happens to have an element of mystery and suspense, and I was so on board for that, what with me being a fan of stories that have me wondering what’s happened, why it happened, and who could be behind it all. This book also has a much lighter feel to it compared to my previous L.H. Cosway reads, which I think showcases just how capable she is of switching gears and we, her readers, are the ones who get to reap the rewards. I’m seriously recommending that you give Cameron and Maisie’s story a whirl, and I’ve got all of my fingers and toes crossed that you’ll adore this LOVELY couple as much as I do. Five-plus stars!
I love Happy Go Lucky so much! This is an office romance with Maisie as a researcher extraordinaire and Cameron, a lead investigator. Maisie is an eager to please gal. I really felt a kinship with her. She tries so hard and is ignored by most. I really love a hard to impress, intense hero and Cameron was definitely that! These two just kind of orbited around each other until they let their defenses down with the help of alcohol. Their chemistry was explosive. I loved the get to know you period and how supportive Cameron was to Maisie. I loved how Maisie pushed Cameron out if his comfort zone. The characters are so well written and realistic that you’re sure you know them or are them. This book came at just the right time for me. I myself am a people pleaser and I have been stressed to the max over something with someone I don’t know on a personal level. Seeing how Maisie was and how the things she did were counterproductive and how Cameron talked about not worrying about it if they are not your friend or family and in the scheme of your life, they don’t matter, really helped me. The mystery was a great element of the story. I really thought it was gonna go one way only to go a completely different direction. Thank you so much for this fantastic book and helping to lift a little weight and worry off of me while escaping into the world of Maisie and Cameron. Can’t wait to get Theo and Lilah’s story!
***5 Stars***
I didn’t read any of the chapters that went out in the author’s newsletter, so I went in absolutely blind and I have to say, I absolutely loved this story. It was sweet, funny, awkward, frustrating, adorkable, smexy, swoonworthy and with just the right amount of drama to keep things interesting, it was simply a fun read overall.
Maisie, Maisie, Maisie. This woman. It’s really hard not to like Maisie, even when you’re scratching your head at how she chooses to handle certain situations, because she truly is a good person. I loved her quirks and how strong she was, even when she didn’t see it. Cameron is…well, yeah, grouchy. He’s blunt and, at times, a bit callous, but once the carapace of disinterest starts to crack, you find that he has a heart of gold, it may be a little bit tarnished, but it is a good one.
Cameron and Maisie’s journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. On the surface they are opposites, but underneath it all, they actually aren’t as opposite as one would think. I loved their awkward moments as much as the moments that not only brought them closer, but made take a look at themselves and start to evolve into better versions of themselves. There are a few bumps in their road, but nothing OTT and I loved where they were at in the end.
This really was a fun read. You get a little opposites attract, office romance, slow burn (to an extent) and a nice little bit of mystery/suspense added into the mix, which made for an engaging read. And as for the secondary cast of characters, they definitely ran the gamut, but I loved Nick and am crossing my toes that we’ll see him again, but am thrilled that Lilah will be getting her own HEA because we get a bit of a tease at the end about it and it looks really good!
Note: The author’s spotify playlist for this baby is AWESOME!!!

I read the first parts of this story in the author’s newsletter serialisation and couldn’t wait to read the rest of Maisie and Cameron’s tale.
“Cameron Grant was quite the looker. It was a pity his attitude made me break out in hives.”
Maisie Wilkins is such a sunny-natured sweetheart – even though she’s something of a doormat. Cameron Grant is the exact opposite and couldn’t give a monkey’s what people thought of him. He’s content being the grumpy, intimidating curmudgeon of the office. Two unlikely people plus one too many drinks equals a night of passion. Now, they just need to deal with the aftermath in and out of the office.
“The way he’d looked at me affected every part of me. His eyes had this way of laying me bare, body and soul.”
I adored this story! Maisie is such an optimistic young woman. I loved her approach to life, although her need to be liked was a little bit sad. I adored her moments of bravery and her sense of humour. I loved how she managed to coax little smiles out of Cameron, as well as his tenderness. Cameron is the epitome of brooding hotness! I adored his restrained passion for Maisie and his jealousy. I enjoyed the fact that Maisie really didn’t have a clue how desirable he found her. I found their little hot moments of intense attraction thrilling, as well as the little tingling touches between them.
“When I was around him, all I wanted to do was touch, taste, breathe him in.”
This was an all-round fun, sexy, and slightly caper-ish story, with some surprising twists and turns! Loved it!!
