This is the sixth book in the Happily Inc series. This is such a fun series and this book did not disappoint. The characters were funny and lovable. The storyline was interesting and unique and returning to Happily Inc for Christmas was wonderful. This story is great read in the series, but I believe it can be read as a stand-alone book.
We are back in Happily Inc for this Christmas novel and neighbor turns lovers story. Wynn is a single mom who has had a crush on her neighbor Garrick, the sheriff. He has been resistant to her charms until he needs her help. His pregnant daughter is coming to stay with him and he wants to welcome her and show her some Christmas spirit. Will this Christmas feeling turn into more for these two and bring them closer? This was a cute and sexy story and I highly recommend it. Everything at this time in my life the past couple weeks has been dark and it was hard for me to read this book so I admit I turned on the Hallmark channel and watched a couple Christmas movies to get in the spirit and then snuggled in and once I cracked the cover on this one I couldn’t put it down!
How fun to visit Happily, Inc once again and throw in Christmas – Win! Win!! Which is ironic because our story is about Wynn this time, we have met her in other visits to Happily, Inc., she is a strong, independent single mom who has enjoyed watching her new neighbor – especially if he mows the yard without his shirt!! I enjoyed this storyline, although I wanted to reach through the pages and slap a better attitude into Joylyn, Garrick’s daughter!! Susan Mallery really did a great job of describing her actions and words in such a way that I could readily envision her – and then WOW!! Fantastic twist to explain her reasoning for her actions & words!! I felt as if I could attend one of the girlfriend luncheons and feel right at home!! Reading this book made me anticipate the Christmas season even more!! I loved this story and was actually sad when I completed the book!! I enjoyed reading about a little older characters and their evolving relationship. Excellent story, well written, total enjoyment!!!
I probably say this a lot about Ms. Mallery’s books however…I started laughing at the first pages and didn’t stop for a few chapters! We’ve met Wynn in previous stories but this is a standalone book. I just adore the Happily Inc. series – and all the others before it – and I do so enjoy visiting with previous characters, too. Oh, and animals. (No worries; when you read this story, you’ll know what I mean.)
HtC is about Wynn Beauchene, her son Hunter, and Garrick McCabe; and eventually, his visiting pregnant daughter, Joylynn. Wynn and Garrick don’t really know each other very well, they are just neighbors who nod and say ‘hello’, but he shows up on her doorstep asking for her help.
I won’t retell the story; I’m not any good at it. Suffice it to say, the first few chapters are HILARIOUS. The first in-house conversation between Wynn and Garrick had me in tears I was laughing so hard. And then we move on to the shopping trip… Just trust me. You have to read it.
Wynn has some soul-searching to do while she works on this…new closeness she is experiencing with Garrick. And Garrick has much to work on in his relationship with his daughter and IMHO, his self-confidence, before these two can work on an HEA. There are some very touching scenes for Garrick as he tries to once again get closer to his daughter but she really acts…like a toddler (again, IMHO) and he gets the short end of the stick. Thru it all, he and Wynn muddle thru life together, until they don’t. I think folks were a wee bit harder on Garrick than they needed to be. Again, I thought Wynn acted just as stoopidly but as it happens, most folks side with her. But all goes well and we get a wonderful holiday story that made me laugh, made me cry (from laughing and sadness), and made smile and sigh at the ending. Oh yeah. Can’t forget about the fur baby crashing the party… Read it. You won’t be sorry.
Sometimes what you didn’t know you were even looking for is right next door. Since the first story in Happily Inc. I’ve wondered more about Wynn and her background, so I was so excited to see the Happily This Christmas gave us her story. Happy with her life, her son and her friends, Wynn finds friendship and some sparks with next door neighbor Garrick. Spending more time together to prepare for Garrick’s married and pregnant adult daughter coming to live with him, a fast friendship develops and they realize that spending more time together is good for both of them. Friends and family gatherings for the holidays lead to a great holiday novel about redemption, friendship, support and love. The best part of a Mallery story is that you always feel like you are part of the story, part of the town and coming back to Happily Inc. was a fine time indeed.
Perfect read to get you into the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday mood. I love these stories about Happily Inc., and the great people who live there. This 6th book in the series is about Wynn. She’s always willing to help anyone and this time her neighbor Garrick could use it. His estranged and very pregnant daughter is coming to stay for awhile. While helping Garrick and getting to know Joylyn, Wynn finally allows herself to open up and find true love. It was fantastic to be drawn into their story and lose yourself for a brief time during this very turbulent year. Well done Susan Mallery! Looking forward to the next one.
Who doesn’t love Christmas time?? And Christmas in Happily Inc is the BEST!!
This is Wynn’s story. She was introduced several books ago and I was so excited to read what she was about! Wynn is a successful business owner and single mother to her teenage son. She hasn’t ever been in a real love relationship and wonders what that would be like….or if she even wants more in her life.
Garrick has moved back to Happily Inc and moves into the house next door to Wynn. His estranged pregnant daughter is coming to stay with him for the holidays and he seeks out Wynn’s advise on how to make his house more a home.
These two come together like lightning and it was just so nice to read about a couple that can be honest and open….and depend on each other to conquer every screw ball life has to throw at them.
I loved all the reoccurring characters and to see where they are in life…and their loves.
Great story and another quick read by Susan Mallery.
A delightful holiday story! The story line is heartwarming, endearing and found the book hard to put down. The characters are strong and determined as they deal with parenting issues and a new romance. This quaint town and its amazing residents bring love and friendship to the story. Loved it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book; all opinions expressed are my own.
First Christmas story this year!
I was so happy Wynn got her story and for her to fall for the guy next door. She has been admiring Garrick for awhile.
When she thinks she is going to have to take things in her hands to spend time with him, he appears at her door asking to help him decorate his house for his pregnant daughter that is coming to stay with him.
Wynn and her son,Hunter help him out with his relationship with his daughter.
Like the other Happy Inc. stories, there is the magic of the town and the holidays too.
It’s a great read!
I’ve been waiting and wondering if long-term readers of the Happily, Inc series would see Wynn’s story written. I’ve been intrigued with her since Jasper’s story, seeing as how she abruptly ended their relationship and wondered what her story was. Honestly, other than the fact that Jasper was meant for someone else’s HEA, Wynn’s reasons were anticlimactic and a real head scratcher. This was my reasoning for decreasing one star from my review. It felt flimsy and contrived.
Other than that, I liked her pairing with Garrick, although I admit to loving him much more than her. This young single dad is very easygoing, funny and super sweet. He’s not afraid to approach Wynn for help in turning his house into a home. He’s got the patience of a saint when it comes to his 21 yr old married and very pregnant daughter. I wanted to slap her more than once! I’m sure I muttered “shut up already” more than once when she was whining…again!
Wynn’s son a Hunter was great and their relationship was well written. He seemed to bond well with Joylyn once she hit town, which was nice to see. As in all Happily, Inc books, we get to see the friendships between both of only the couples in town but the male and female friend groups. It’s great to watch pairs from previous books grown and flourish.
While set during the holiday season, Happily This Christmas had just enough celebrations to let you know you’re reading a Christmas book…but the story can be read all year long. Another winner from the pen (or keyboard) of Susan Mallery
If you are a fan of this author you’ll adore this addition to the series. Sweet, funny, good people, good friends and of course a happily ever after. No great surprises and yet who cares! Exactly what ever come to expect from Susan Mallery. Great narration as well.
I love visiting Happily Inc. & its even more fun visiting at Christmas! I have been waiting for Wynn’s story for a while & wasn’t disappointed. Garrick was the perfect match for her & it was so sweet seeing them fall in love.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Reading a Susan Mallery book is like staying up all night with your girlfriends. You’ll laugh, cry, sigh and maybe gain a little bit of wisdom.
Heartwarming novel set in the close knit community of Happily,Inc.My first read in this series, but will definitely read the previous releases. The story of two single parents each with difficult pasts and regrets. They soon realize that each is very aware of the others presence. As they each face life’s daily challenges, they soon accept that there are new beginnings, to learn from the past and let it go.An inspiring read that you will not want to end.It reenforces that nothing is more important than family. This novel will leave you wishing for the magic of the holiday season.
Christmas time set in a wedding destination town! Happily this Christmas is part of the Happily Inc series of books and is a great addition that you don’t want to miss. Family, forgiveness and coming of age all wrapped up in a heartwarming story that you will enjoy from start to finish.
Happily this Christmas is the sixth book in Susan Mallery’s Happily Inc series set in Happily Inc, California. Everyone who has patiently waited for single mom Wynn’s book, this is it. Wynn has had a crush on her neighbor Garrick since he moved next door. Garrick’s pregnant, married 21 year old daughter is going to be staying with him until her husband a marine comes home in 5 weeks. Garrick asks Wynn to help him get his house ready for his daughter to visit.
This is a great story. I don’t normally start reading holiday books in September but I made the exception this year with everything that is going on now. This book was just what I needed. I loved this book. The characters are real community involvement is big In Susan Mallery books. It almost makes me want to live in a small town. I look forward to reading future Happily Inc books to see more of Wynn and Garrick.
This book is part of the series Happily Inc but it has been written so that it may be enjoyed as a stand alone book. If you enjoy this book I recommend you check out Susan Mallery’s other books.
Wynn and Garrick’s story set at Christmastime filled me with so many emotions. I cried, I laughed, and I found my Christmas joy. Wynn and Garrick were great characters, thank you Susan Mallery for another 5 star happy ending read.
Another good book.
Wynn always thought her next door neighbor, Garrick was a hunk. When he asks her help getting his house ready for his pregnant daughter, whom he was having issues with, is coming. Together they make the house ready and get to know each other. Wynn also has a son and the families do a lot of things together. There are hard times and fun times. This is a great Christmas book. I really enjoyed it.
This book made me wish it wouldn’t end. I have a little ritual whenever I read one of Susans books. I have to have my hot tea with cream and sugar, a lap blanket and a comfortable chair. It’s a thing with me and her books.
There’s something else I do that I had not noticed, but it was pointed out to me.
My son…”You must be reading that Susan chick.”
Me…”What? Chick? Really?”
My son…”And you must be in the last chapter.”
Me…”You’re 20 feet away, how do you know what I’m reading and what chapter I’m on?”
My son…”Mom, you do the same thing everytime you’re in the last chapter with her books. Laundry. Dishes. Sweep the deck off. You’ll read a few pages, get up and do something, read a few more pages, get up again and pretty much take half a day to finish that last chapter.”
Me…”I do NOT do that!” (laughing)
My son…”Really? Cause you’re standing there folding laundry with the washer and dryer going, (he picks up the book with like 5 pages left to read and shows it to me.) Yeah, mom you do. It’s cute, you just want the ending to not come to an end.”
I had not noticed I do that, (ok, maybe a little I noticed that) 🙂 so he’s right.
I hope you do a few books on those Marines getting hooked up!
A very enjoyable visit to Happily Inc where you always find love, family and friendship, and a great sense of community. The local Chief of Police finds love with his neighbor who helps him reconnect with his estranged, married, pregnant daughter. The community works together and in a very short span of time pull together a beautiful wedding for a young military couple who have no family and very little money. It was nice catching up with some old friends and making some new. Another winner for Susan Mallery. I’ve been reading her books for more than 10 years and am never disappointed.
