He is one of the most haunting characters in all of literature. At last the evolution of his evil is revealed. Hannibal Lecter emerges from the nightmare of the Eastern Front, a boy in the snow, mute, with a chain around his neck. He seems utterly alone, but he has brought his demons with him. Hannibal’s uncle, a noted painter, finds him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France, where … orphanage and brings him to France, where Hannibal will live with his uncle and his uncle’s beautiful and exotic wife, Lady Murasaki.
Lady Murasaki helps Hannibal to heal. With her help he flourishes, becoming the youngest person ever admitted to medical school in France.
But Hannibal’s demons visit him and torment him. When he is old enough, he visits them in turn.
He discovers he has gifts beyond the academic, and in that epiphany, Hannibal Lecter becomes death’s prodigy.

Thomas Harris creates one of the most memorable fiction horror characters ever written. This novel is bone chilling because of the research that went behind the writing.
This is one of my favorite “go-to” books when I need my Hannibal fix. Harris created such a likable, diabolical monster that it’s hard for the reader—or at least ME—to not want what he wants. Even if it’s twisted murder or questionable meals.
If you love the Hannibal series, don’t skip this look at the intriguing life of a young Hannibal.
It was decent, but it lacked the personal flavors of its predecessors. It also never mentioned Hannibal’s sixth finger. I found that odd.
It gave a lot of insight as to why he was the way that he was.
Not as good but as the 1st ones but ok
Couldn’t put it down! Great book! Have all of them!
If you love Hannibal, you need to now how it started
Silence of the Lambs is still the gold standard Hannibal Lector novel in my opinion, but Hannibal Rising does a pretty good job describing the horrific and tragic events that led Hannibal to become the debonair cannibal of the previous novels that we know and love. I enjoyed reading it.
Loved it
Ok Very disappointed.
Awful. So disjointed. Forced myself to finish
