An elephant never forgets . . . but can she dream?
For forty-one years, Samson Brown has been caring for Hannah, the lone elephant at the down-at-the-heels Max L. Biedelman Zoo. Having vowed not to retire until an equally loving and devoted caretaker is found to replace him, Sam rejoices when smart, compassionate Neva Wilson is hired as the new elephant keeper. But Neva quickly discovers what … discovers what Sam already knows: that despite their loving care, Hannah is isolated from other elephants and her feet are nearly ruined from standing on hard concrete all day. Using her contacts in the zookeeping world, Neva and Sam hatch a plan to send Hannah to an elephant sanctuary—just as the zoo’s angry, unhappy director launches an aggressive revitalization campaign that spotlights Hannah as the star attraction, inextricably tying Hannah’s future to the fate of the Max L. Biedelman Zoo.
A charming, poignant, and captivating novel certain to enthrall readers of Water for Elephants, Diane Hammond’s Hannah’s Dream is a beautifully told tale rich in heart, humor, and intelligence.

This was an absolutely wonderful book. My eyes were damp as I listened to the last words. There were tears of happiness for the elephant, Hannah. And sadness for her friends who had to say goodbye. I hated to put the book down.
One of my all time favorite books. The characters are so well drawn they still resonate with me months after finishing this and all the other books by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were well developed, easy to picture, and the author made me care about them.
This is the story of an zoo elephant and the struggle to find a home in an elephant sanctuary. The people involved are amazing.
Highly recommended
Hannah is an Asian elephant that was brought to the United States by Max (Maxine)L. Biedelman. Max spent her younger days traveling the world with her father and started a zoo in her small home town. Samson Brown was hired to take care of Hannah and has for many years. But Max dies and when the new zoo director takes over things do not go …
I really liked this book, I was rooting for Hannah the whole time to get her happy ending. The characters were all very interesting and compassionate(most of them anyways)
Elephants are among my favorite animals. Elephants, giraffes, turtles…but I don’t like zoos or aquariums.
The fact that this book is about efforts to move an elephant from a zoo into a sanctuary is appealing. I also liked the characters, even if they were a bit one dimensional and a bit stereotypical.
The author’s writing style is simple …
loved loved the characters, the caretaker, his wife, and Hannah. One of my all time favorite books. A treasure!!
Loved it. I wish it hadn’t ended where it did, but enjoyed it nevertheless.
This will be one of the books I recommend to everyone. It’s eye-opening how magnificent animals are used for circuses and discarded. The author does a wonderful job of developing the characters. Hannah’s relationship with Sam is a beautiful thing. It’s just a damn good book.
Well written book with great characters…including Hannah.
Very predictable and saccharin.and I love almost anything about elephants.
