Ladies & Gents,I sold my soul for a hamburger. And I have no regrets. When a girl is trapped indefinitely in an elevator with a smoking hot burger and an empty stomach, even the strongest of women will crumble. The story goes like this: Bradley Hamilton, former professional hockey player and the most frustrating human alive, offered me half of his hamburger in exchange for a date. I took him up … alive, offered me half of his hamburger in exchange for a date. I took him up on the offer—while under duress—and now I’m stuck with the consequences. Specifically, the scorching kiss at the end of our date that has me drooling for more.
However, there’s one whopper of a problem. This man has been a thorn in my side for the last twenty years—ever since he moved next door and became my older brother’s best friend. We’ve gone head to head for years, and now, he’s trying to buy out my restaurant in order to plop one of his big fat gyms there instead.
I refuse to let him ruin my business. Unfortunately, Bradley Hamilton is like an order of fries: you just can’t have one. It appears our lips are addicted to kissing. He’s alarmingly handsome. Deliciously confident. And worst of all? Underneath that salty exterior he’s starting to show signs of sweet.
Brad Hamilton is my guilty pleasure, my cheat meal, my greatest craving.
Which is why he’ll be one habit that’s hard to kick.

Bradley Hamilton used to be best friend’s with both Lexi and her brother. But, a falling out three years ago left them barely speaking . . . except for the occasional hello since they lived across the hall from one another. Things changed, however, when they end up stuck in an elevator and Lexi agrees to one date in exchange for half of his hamburger . . .
When Brad suffered a career ending injury, he shut out the world. HE didn’t want anyone to pity him, especially his best friends. Unfortunately, he still can’t get Lexi off his mind. When he sees the chance to bribe her into spending time with him, he can’t resist. She’s everything he has ever wanted in a woman, and now it’s time to win her back.
Even though the used to be best friends . . . and perhaps a bit of a crush, Lexi refuses to let Brad be a thorn in her side any longer . . . except, he is a habit she just can’t seem to kick. And, the more time they start spending together, the more right it feels. Can she forgive and forget? And, can she learn to trust again, even when it seems Brad’s been keeping quite a secret from her?
Hangry was my first read by Lily Kate and I loved it! I am a sucker for great banter between characters and this book had that in spades! The dialogue between Lexi and Brad as well as between Lexi and her friends was enough to have me laughing out loud as I read.
Lexi is bold, sexy, sassy and intelligent. She’s also obsessed with food and becomes hangry when she hasn’t eaten which really makes for some great comedic interactions between her and the rest of the cast of characters in this book. Brad is hunky and sweet and earnest in his desire to win Lexi back into his life and is great book boyfriend material. His attempts to plan the perfect date for Lexi are both super sweet and entertaining as he plots his way to her heart . . . while sampling everything on her diner’s menu.
While this is a fantastic rom-com, there is also enough serious plot that adds some great plot twists and interest to give the story a real depth that some rom-coms can lack. I was thoroughly intrigued and couldn’t wait to see what happened next chapter after chapter.
Don’t get hangry . . . grab a glass of wine, a sweet treat and immerse yourself in this fabulous read today! 5 stars!
Brad and Lexi are making second chances so deliciously tempting you won’t be able to resist! Lexi has a pretty great life – she loves her family, her awesome friends, and her amazing restaurant. Not to say she doesn’t have her problems though… as a business owner she worries constantly about keeping her head above water while balancing her love for Minnie’s Diner charm, she can let her emotions – i.e. hunger – run her life, and she’s wanting in the romance department. The last last two are how she finds herself making a Faustian deal with Bradley Hamilton – her once best friend whom after losing his hockey career pushed her away and now they don’t even speak even though they live literally across the hall. This deal involves a stuck elevator, a very hungry Lexi, a fast food hamburger, and a date… but when hunger and hormones are involved logic goes right out the window. Lexi always wanted there to be more with Brad, but they were firmly friends and when he so harshly pushed her away she was crushed to lose one of her best friends and the dream of something more. Brad is an idiot. For decades he was firmly friendzoned with Lexi and while he loved being the person she ran to, laughed with and hung with – he died a little inside at the prospect of never having her as his own. When he got hurt, in an even bigger bonehead move he pushed Lexi away and lost even her friendship for 3 years and what a long 3 years it was. Now that he has this chance to get her back he is not going to ruin it and this time he is not going to be delegated to the friends table. He has waited years for his shot with Lexi and he is going full stop to make sure she knows that he is all in and that she is the be all end all as far as he is concerned. Love, Laughter, and Longing – and that’s just about the food!
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Brad has a tendency to overthink things. An example of this is when he wins a bet with Lexi for a date and it takes him weeks to finalize the plans because he wants to make it perfect.
These two drive you so crazy that they are so lovable. Their banter is so realistic that it makes you feel like you are right there witnessing it.
I loved how these two didn’t just jump into bed giving it to their attraction. It gives them the time to work on past and present issues so when they do give into that attraction not only does it sizzle it much more meaningful.
The humor in this book just drew me that much more into the story and I feel made me connect more with the characters. I also love that this story was told by both Lexi and Brad. I feel it gave more depth to their characters.
This was a fun read that I absolutely loved.
