Lord Peter Wimsey and Montague Egg confront menaces from purloined pearls to poisoned port in tales from “one of the greatest mystery story writers” (Los Angeles Times). In the annals of mystery writing, Lord Peter Wimsey and Montague Egg are among the most memorable detectives. Lord Peter—noble by birth, brilliant by nature—is a fly in the ointment of criminals across Britain, turning up … Britain, turning up whenever the police ask him to lend his quick wit and keen eye to an investigation. Montague Egg is a free-spirited figure, a traveling wine salesman with an unfortunate habit of stumbling over murder scenes. Both are inimitably charming, and neither has ever failed to catch his man.
In this collection of stories featuring the two detectives, plus a couple of bonus tales, the mystery maven’s evocation of England between the wars—and her chilling puzzles—remain as engaging as ever.
Hangman’s Holiday is the 9th book in the Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, but you may enjoy the series by reading the books in any order.

A classic that holds up well.
Peter Wimsey is a gem.
I read the entire series with delight!
Love all of the Peter Wimsey Mysteries.
I love Dorothy L. Sayers books, especially Lord Peter Wimsey with Harriet Vane. The books require a person to appreciate the 1930s style. Sayers expects people to be familiar with literature and in some places to be able to read French.
Love all the Lord Peter mysteries.
I love everything I have read by Dorothy Sayers and this book of short stories is no exception. This one includes four stories involving Lord Peter Wimsey (such a great character!), 6 stories involving Montague Egg and two additional stories. I really enjoy Sayer’s writing style.
Absolutely LOVE anything by Dorothy Sayers! Books you can read over and over again and enjoy every time.
Dorothy Sayers writes intriguing mysteries with great characters! Holds your interest and keeps you wanting more!
Lord Peter Wimsey is one of my favorite sleuths. Brulliant, literate, refined and unable to refuse to solve a puzzle,!ord Peter is the best company a lady or a Scotland Yard Inspector could want. Sayers was incapable of writing a bad book.
Sayers just does not disappoint.
Well-drawn characters, intriguing puzzle, wonderful dialogue. She sets the scenes and makes them come alive.
Lord Peter Wimsey and Montague Egg are always entertaining. I like the short stories. I keep Sayers’ books available for a quick read whenever I have a spare half-hour.
I enjoyed this book. It was my first experience with Montague Egg and I found him to be very unusual.
I loved this book the first ti.e I read it. And the second time. And the third. Lord Peter is among my very favorites and this one has exceptional characters.
Excellent short mystery stories by Ms. Sayers involving her two detectives, Lord Peter Wimsey and Montague Egg. Always a treat to read Ms. Sayers.
If you like English mysteries Dorthey Sayers is top notch
I recommend this collection of short stories by Dorothy Sayres for the glimpse they give into British life before WW II. The “solutions” to her mysteries are often based on discredited “junk” science or medicine, and it’s important that readers understand that at the outset.
This Dorothy Sayers series is wonderful. You can’t go wrong.
I liked the Peter Wimsey short stories better than those about Montague Egg. The former is an aristocrat who solves criminal mysteries that often involve his brother-in-law, a member of Scotland Yard. The latter is a traveling salesman for a company that sells wine and liquor widely throughout England, and Monty encounters mysteries along with …
I have loved everything Dorothy L. Sayers has written!
