It started with a window that was jammed shut. Pretty simple, right? All I wanted was to open the windows while I tidied the house. I’d been after my no-good husband to do it for months, but he never did. And then he shacked up with his secretary, leaving me with a pile of bills, husband-free for the first time in ten years, and with a house that was falling apart.
The ad popped up on the side of my social media feed—a local contracting agency willing to do pretty much anything. Since I don’t really know a screwdriver from a ratchet, I gave them a call.
And let me tell you, the ad was NOT lying. Jesse O’Neill can do it ALL…and looks amazing doing it.
He fixed my window, so I called him back to fix the sagging, splintery front steps. Which led to him fixing my kitchen sink. And then he recarpeted my stairs. And then fixed the squeak in my bed.
He was supposed to fix my house, not my rusty, sputtering libido. And certainly not my broken heart.

Hammered (Book 1 inthe Dad Bod Construction series) hit the nail on the head for this reader. A wonderful storyline based on real life situations that is told in Ms. Wilder’s usual style of humor, personal struggles and passion. The characters are so down the earth you’ll feel like you’ve known them all your life or at least known someone that their personalities are the same. These things always make for a great read
Imogen is a mid aged woman who has recently watched the ink dry on her divorce papers. Having always been the dutiful wife, trying to stick it out for years despite her inner loneliness, she is now left with all the bills, flat broke and in a fixer upper house that her ex just had to buy. Of course this fixer upper has a lot of issues one being no AC. While trying to get the window open to catch a breeze, she accidently breaks it and don’t you know it’s suppose to rain the next day. Imogen finds an add for Dad Bod construction and the hunk in the picture catches her eye so she makes the call, hopping she can at least afford to have it boarded up, since it’s late in the evening. What she doesn’t count on is the Hunk on a stick, Jesse, that shows up to fix the window, clicking all the buttons off inside her that she thought were long gone and dead.
The banter and sexual innuendos fly in this funny, flirty, sexy, feel good story that proves life often gives people a second chance at happiness if they are willing to put themselves out there and try again. I highly recommend grabbing Hammered (Dad Bod Construction, Book 1) and I offer you a hardy 2 Thumbs up for what this readers feels is going to be another HIT series for Ms. Wilder. Looking forward to Book 2.
Let me start by saying that I just scoured the yellow pages looking for my own
Dad Bod Contracting, and I’m disheartened to say that there’s not one business description that comes anywhere near what James Bod and his crew offer nor, I suspect, is there a group of men who fill out a pair of Levis or wear a tool belt quite like James, Jesse, or Franco…I guess I’ll just have to keep looking;)
Hammered is the first book in Jasinda Wilder’s new Dad Bod Contracting series, and let me tell you, she started out with a bang! Imogen and Jesse’s story is a slow-burn romance about two 40 something characters who clearly share a mutual attraction – one that both don’t seem to know how to handle despite a whole lot of flirting and sexual tension. For much of the story, these two circle around each other, trying to figure out if the risk is worth it and if two people who seem so different can find the strength to try for more.
Imogen is such an amazing and relatable 40 year old heroine. Her ex-husband put her through hell, dulled her light for a decade, and made her feel extremely insecure about her body and her looks, and it’s clear that it’s going to take her some time to get over her ex’s abuse and truly believe Jesse’s attraction and desire for her as the woman she is – the same one that her ex rejected. Imogen’s struggles will resonate with readers and even though her actions and reactions are over the top a bit, I think it makes it more authentic and it validates the hell that Imogen endures and works to overcome.
Jesse O’Neill is one heck of a manly man who definitely knows how to use a hammer, in more ways than one;) His honesty and his kindness are exactly what Imogen needs to find her spark again and boy does he bring out her ‘wild’ side. She wants to do all kinds of crazy things with him and to him and there is never a dull moment when these two are together.
Readers are absolutely going to love Imogen’s best friend, Audra. Their friendship is EVERYTHING! They’ve been friends forever; they give one another the hard-truths but they also have each other’s back at all times. They don’t talk or see one another every day, but when it matters, when they’re needed, they’re there regardless of anything else that’s happening in their own lives.
And I can’t wait to see how Franco turns Audra’s world upside down!
Imogen and Jesse’s story is a great read – one that illustrates the necessity of having good friends to have one’s back and positive self-esteem in order to move forward when one’s life implodes. The attraction and sexual tension between Imogen and Jesse builds the entire story until it’s ready to explode and when that time comes, readers need to be ready for it because it is HAWT and their actions clearly show their feelings, which makes it an amazing scene to read.
I’m so excited about Jasinda Wilder’s Dad Bod Contracting series; Hammered was such a fun read and the rest of the series should be just as good because what we’ve learned about Jesse’s friends and co-workers has me beyond intrigued and a bit hot and bothered.
4.5 Poison Apples
“What do you want – what do you need?” “Everything”
Hammered is book #1 in the brand new Dad Bod series. It is hot, fast paced with lots of great funny banter! And…it is down & dirty!
Imogen is newly divorced and in a bit of a rut. Her ex left her with nothing except the “fixer upper” house that they had bought. She breaks a window after trying to open it without success. She comes across an ad for Dad Bod Contracting meeting Jessie who is sent to give her an estimate to fix her window.
“If you take pure, raw, unfiltered, male sexuality and boil it down to essence, and then infuse that with things like smoldering eyes, rugged good looks, and a piercing stare, you’d have a general approximation of the man who stood in my doorway.”
Imogen and Jesse hit it off pretty fast. Their banter is fun! Jesse is hot & sexy but also kind and caring. Just a really great guy! Imogen has had a rough few years. Being in a tough marriage has left her drained financially and emotionally. Although the attraction is there between Jesse and Imogen, they spend a lot of time talking and getting to know one another. They are also a more mature couple. They really burn up the pages!
“Evenin’, m’am.” He winks at me. “Estimates are free, but staring ain’t.”
There is also a bit of drama because they both have baggage to deal with, but nothing too crazy. A great, sexy, summer read providing you with a little get away! You may want to read this by the pool because you’re gonna want to jump in to cool off! We meet Imogen’s best friend Audra and Jesse’s friends Ryder, Franco and James. Looks like we’ll be seeing Audra get “Drilled” by Franco next!
4 stars
Let me start with… Jesse can come to my house and fix WHATEVER he likes. Heck, I might even intentionally break something just for him to come over and repair it. The eye candy game is strong in this book and I LOVE it!!
If you need something to compare Hammered with, allow me to help. This new series can be easily compared to Jasinda’s Big Girls series. However, this is a much more mature audience. It’s sexy, funny, and so hard to put down. Jesse and Imogen had me in stitches from start to finish.
Hammered is the Wilder’s way of saying “Forties is and will always be… owning your sexiness.” While the book is funny, it is equally heartfelt. I related so much to Imogen’s character and I loved that Jesse was there to bring her back to her own. A chemistry like theirs is just what today’s society needs to see. Love comes to the door at any stage of life.
This is was the perfect introduction to a series that I can already see will be a fun set of tools to read. I got Hammered on the bus and on the train… so I suggest you do the same.
5+ STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
Where to start with this review. I loved this book. It was whitty, sexy, and just plain hot. It was everything I’ve come to love from Jasinda Wilder’s stories and more. This is the first book in the Dad Bod Collection. This series can be read as a standalone, but why would you want to.
Imogen is recently divorced and was left with nothing from her ex, but a broken run down house. Needing help, Imogen reaches out to Dad Bod Contracting. Jesse is sent to help Imogen with her house and well, finding herself again. These two have amazing chemistry and baggage for miles.
I sincerely loved everything about this story. I loved the characters, the plot, the outcome, just everything. I hope you all with take a chance on the Dad Bod series.
Holy hot buttered yum with a side of bacon! A man, a HAWT man over forty who can go like the energizer bunny without a little blue pill…I might have some plumbing that needs to be unclogged!
Jesse will check off all your ‘honey do’ items and a whole lot more! A sexy, feely read about starting over, acceptance and putting the past where it belongs…behind you!
I smiled through this whole book…plus need some new undies but THIS is a great read! I love a leading lady my 40+ brain can relate to. A book for real women with real lives and could add some jumper cables to your dead libido!
I am such a fan of Jasinda Wilder and of this book! She’s such a pro for making her readers panting for more. With Hammered being the first for this series, I can you tell you now that I absolutely can’t wait for the rest of the books. She gives us just enough insight of the characters who will be getting their own book and trust me, you’ll be wanting by the end.
First of all, can we just talk about the heroine’s name, Imogen? I don’t know why, but it just makes me want me to belt out an Imogen Heap’s song (well the only song I know), absolutely loved her name and character. Even though this was told in her POV, I was kind of hoping for Jesse’s POV, I wouldn’t have minded seeing what goes on in his head. I loved being in Imogen’s head, it wasn’t all pretty, but it was real and extremely hilarious especially when it came to her new “home fixer-upper”, Jesse. She can’t help but gawk at the beautiful man who finds things to fix in her house.
The dialogue between Imogen and Jesse is full of innuendos and it’s so darn funny, but also so darn sexy. Jesse is absolute perfection, I loved that he always reassures Imogen how beautiful she is, inside and out even the times when she can’t see that herself. He worships and values her like every woman should. It definitely took some time for Jesse to tear her walls down, but let’s be real, she was gone since the first time he showed up at her door.
Hammered is a fun, sweet and sexy read! I’ve been reading one too many angsty books lately and this one was such a welcomed break! Jasinda, an amazing start to the Dad Bod Contracting series, can’t wait for Drilled!
I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!!!! It was so refreshing to read a book with older characters that i could totally relate to on many different levels. Don’t get me wrong I love a hot alpha male, however sometimes them being so young gets old. I could relate so much to Imogen and what she has experienced prior in her life and what she is currently feeling with Jesse. This was a well written book that kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen and laughing like I haven’t in quite some time while reading a book. I am SO looking forward to reading Drilled and the rest of the Dad Bod series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book for an honest review.
This book was so much fun to read and so hot. Did I say HOT? Yes, Jasinda has done it again. She really knows how to write a fun romance that is perfect to read while relaxing at the pool or wherever else you might be. Imogen and Jesse are the MCs and they are both a little gun shy about serious romance, but the instant attraction they feel when he shows up to fix her broken window is undeniable. All in all this was a quick read that I really enjoyed. Pick it up!
if you are unfamiliar with the Badd Brothers Series (there has to be a brother or 2 that you will love, and their ladies wow wee they are so fun, such backstories, so many funny moments, great reads.), be sure to check that series out. But, Beth knows better than that to know you of course have read that series, who hasn’t????!! ANYONE?? Please start now. You know you are on the JW bandwagon and love her writing style. This series is a bit different, but the same, hot men, hard working people, a backstory for every character, …You can totally see her humor.
I honestly thought it would have been considered a romantic comedy …apparently not??! Who knew??! I would have swore?! Would have even put some money on it??! There is just so much humor …with Audra and Jesse there is just so much happening, if you are like me you will talk to these characters …it is like an interaction book …or maybe I just like talking to characters in books??! I can not be the only one who does this??! right?? There are so many hot and steamy moments as well. I totally wanna see this house in person & the moments that happen in the house with Jesse and Imogen … steamy windows. (See a link to Tina Turner’s song???! any one??!)
I love these characters, I think for me, Jasinda has these characters that are easily like, or ones who are easily relatable … or maybe that is just how my mind works that, I jump into a book and see who I love or like best character wise and find what parts of their life or quirkiness that is sort of similar to me??! I look forward to seeing what and where she heads with this series. I really like Franco …will be curious where he story goes. I was super lucky to get on this list to read this book ahead of others …I have loved Jasinda for …gosh so long now …she is awesome.
Seriously I do not know how Author Jasinda Wilder writes these EPIC love scenes that always leave us readers breathless and needing a very cold shower!Be ready to get your nails out to be hammered by the one and only Jesse.
And yes I love a guy who knows his way with a hammer just like Imogen.
Jesse is a man who thrilled me, shocked me, had me guessing what he would do next in regards to showing Imogen his many talents.
Imogen is a relatable woman who I wanted to be best friends with, wanted to console her and tell her just like her BFF Audra that she needs to think outside of the box when it comes to herself and her actions.
This is one fun filled, sexy and heartwarming read.
Go get this book and find out why Imogen & Jesse story is one you don’t want to miss.
And be ready for the next 3 books in this series which I am super excited to read.
AMAZING! This book was so HOT! Imogen has just gotten divorced. Her ex left her with nothing but a house that needs a lot of work and bad self esteem. When she needs some help with her broken window she calls Dad Bod Contracting. Jesse works with Dad Bod Contracting and comes to fix her window. They have chemistry and can’t get enough of staring at each other. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! An amazing read that I highly recommend!
*Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
I absolutely love Jesse & Imogen’s story. Who doesn’t like a sexy AF handyman, who with his sexy talk could make you melt. Imogen’s ex husband has really done a job on her and meeting Jesse is exactly what she needs. They are sweet, sexy and smokin hot together that I didn’t want too put my kindle down. Another amazing 5 Star read by Jasinda and I can’t wait for Franco’s story next.
I love the premise of this story, it was a fun summer read that definitely had me laughing. Recent divorcée needs contracting help for her falling apart home and in walks Jesse. A sexy, kind and flirtatious man who is as knowledgeable with construction as he is with flirting. Imogen is fresh out of a terrible marriage where her ex cheated on her and siphoned money out of their joint bank account. Feeling out of shape and undesirable, Imogen feels the spark of mutual attraction with Jesse, even though it terrifies her. The banter between Jesse and Imogen was fun, they both love movie references and quote movies at random. They have such a strong chemistry even as they initially fought the attraction and then gave into it. Of course nothing is perfect and mistakes are made on both sides, but they figure things out and decide to give a relationship a chance, making up in spectacular fashion. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two: Drilling – with Imogen’s best friend Audra and Jesse’s work buddy Franco!
Love! I highly recommend this fun, sexy, second chance romance!
