A Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel for anyone who thought adventure and magic stopped at forty. Guess again, it’s just the beginning. I never expected I’d be one of those people who had a midlife crisis. Sure, I’m over forty, and married, but my kids are grown and moved out. Life is steady, if predictably boring. That all changes when my husband asks for a divorce and my whole world crashes. … my whole world crashes. Everything I thought I knew, everything I am, gone in an instant.
But I am not about to give up. After all, at my age, technically, I’m only halfway there.
I am ready to tackle my do-over; my chance to become the me I’ve always dreamed of. Starting with moving into my late grandma’s cottage and adopting a new kitten.
However, my new life is a little odder than expected. Old books suddenly appearing in my house. Neighbors going missing. A supposed lake monster, and a strange man who likes to skulk around with an axe.
I’m going to need to lean on my friends, new and old, to help me navigate my midlife crisis. Together maybe we will find a way to beat the family curse ruining my second chance at life.

Totally wanted to cry and throat punch her husband. I felt every word that was thrown like I was there. I hope it’s true when they say what doesn’t break you makes you stronger cause she needs to be for all the secrets coming to light. Even with the wonderful blessings coming her way seems like with every one comes a backhand curse.
Low Self Worth, An A-Hole Of An Ex But Great Friends & A Kitten Help! A 3.5 Star Read
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Halfway There: Midlife Mulligan #1
After being dumped in the most callous & heartless way ever by her angry husband, then her house burning down, Naomi, with her adult daughter’s encouragement, decides to head back to Canada with her new kitten and little else, to the Cottage she inherited after her Grandma died! She’s beat down emotionally, has low self worth & image! But is determined to improve herself now she’s out of her ex’s toxic influence!!
The locals act weird once they discover who she is. They all think her Grandma was a witch but they also think a monster lives in the lake so there’s that!! Her old bestfriend walks back into her life, she has some odd idea’s but it’s so wonderful to reconnect she doesn’t care! She also makes a new friend for the first time in decades. Now she just needs a job.
I didn’t always necessarily like Naomi too much, she was quite judgemental, I did appreciate her wanting to change that though. I really hated how much her self worth had been eroded by her ex husband and his abusive words over the years. I’m hoping her Son will be in book #2 and step up to help out his Mum like his sister has. I’m hoping they’ll be irrefutable proof of magic in book #2 as well!

Yep, I love the originality! Not only was I led by the nose entirely through thus whole book, I was pleasantly entertained the entire time guessing about where this storyline was heading, who did what, and what roles each character played. And pretty much all my guesses were wrong or at least only partly right. My kind of entertainment, my kind of read! Seriously love that the main character is more true to life and older and not the stereotypical every persons wet dream. Weave in hints of magic and mystical, and I’m glued! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
While the story starts out with our MC being a bit of a washed up, push-over of a doormat we get to follow along in her journey of finding her backbone & learning who she is.
The storyline is well written, with engaging characters. There a bit of humor, wit, snark & intrigue throughout.
I have a feeling we have only just begun to scratch the surface. It’ll be fun to read more in this series & see what happens.
I love this book. I could almost see my self in this character. I love characters that I can relate to. Also I found myself crying and laughing right with her. I can not wait to see how this character develops further.
This is book 1 in the Midlife Mulligan series but is also a part of PWF (Paranormal Women’s Fiction) which is basically a group of author’s coming together to write about women over a certain age, just doing what they need to do in order to be happy. The books aren’t interconnected other than the premise of surviving life’s obstacles. In this one, we meet Naomi. She is a woman who is over 40, has grown children, and life has just become boring. She doesn’t like confrontation or conflict. And this book starts out with her husband demanding not only a divorce but her to get out of her own home. And this forces her to go to her family’s cabin and rethink not only past decision’s but where she truly want’s her life to go. And how to go about getting there.
As a woman over 40 who has been married for a very long time-this is definitely something that strikes home with me. I have always worried about what would happen if my husband suddenly decided he wanted a divorce along with our home. What in the world would I do? And I love that yes, she falls down and breaks apart. But she is a strong as hell woman and she picks herself up and realizes that she deserves better. That she is a beautiful person who deserves to be happy-no matter what! And while there are other things going on (such as the paranormal things that she misses at first), for me it was all about how she picked herself back up and started moving on with her own choices. My only drawback-I am typically a romance reader all the time with my books, and this book doesn’t really have any romance. But it was so good in other ways that I still couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to see where the rest of this series takes us!
When Naomi’s husband asks for a divorce her life changes drastically. While avoiding near death experiences she moves to her grandmothers cottage in Canada only to discover her old friend seems a little crazy. In fact the whole town seems crazy and Naomi just doesn’t understand why they all think she is a witch. Add in her daughter and a cottage that seems to have a life of it’s own and our heroine is in for a total lifestyle change.
Naomi is such a relateable heroine for anyone who has gone through a divorce and had to find themselves again.
Naomi’s life is thrown into the wringer when her husband tells her he wants a divorce. Her two kids are grown, and she thought the rest of her life would just go on as it had been. They were going to grow old together – isn’t that how marriage is supposed to work? Despite him being unhappy about everything for years, she has done her best to be a good wife. Now that the marriage is ending, what does she do?
She ends up moving to her late grandmother’s cottage to start her “do over”. While things seem normal at first, she notices things appearing in the house where she knows they weren’t there before. The hot neighbor is a jerk and may or may not be an axe murderer. People in town keep refusing to allow her to pay for anything, and won’t even give her a job! What is going on here?
Once people learn her last name, it’s like they can’t do enough for her. She finally learns about her family history in the town, and the curse placed by her ancestors. The local legend about the lake monster is still being told, and her best friend Trish is a believer. Can Naomi prove to these people that she had nothing to do with the family curse, has no intention of cursing the town, and that the monster doesn’t exist?
As she works through her midlife crisis, she begins to believe in what she had thought impossible. Will her past catch up with her to take away her new-found happiness?
Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Naomi is having a midlife crisis.
Her husband just asked for a divorce, and she does not know what to do with her life.
First thing first, she moves back to her grandmothers cabin.
Second, she will need to figure out a plan.
Before that, strange things are happening around her new small town.
What will Naomi do ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Naomi has been dealt a blow and now she has to pick up the pieces and mould herself a new life. Her ex is a total piece of work and tried to screw her over, again and again. She thankfully has a bolthole in the cottage that she inherited from her grandmother.
But this is no ordinary cottage and Naomi soon learns that magic is more than present and the invisible servants really umbrage at rude guests! Along with her newly adopted kitten, Naomi learns that life doesn’t end with divorce or being over-40. She finds new friends and also a mystery – townspeople are disappearing and the local “lake monster” appears to be active again.
There is also the budding attraction to a very sexy specimen. But her daughter also boomerangs back into her life, making Naomi a multi-tasker! Absolutely cracking dialogue as you’d expect from this author. Although there are some sparks it’s not your average full-on romance with sex all over the place. I loved the interaction between Naomi and her friends and family. I’d never tire of punching her ex though!
