You’ve heard of these groups – the secretive ones that only the crème de la crème are invited into, the ones outsiders speculate about for centuries – I’m the second in my family invited to attend, but to them, I’m fresh meat. New blood. New money, too. They think they’ll elbow past me, that I’m here for their amusement, for them to walk all over, they’ll find out soon enough that I’m not.I may … not.
I may look like one of them, with my designer bags and clothes straight from the Parisian runways, but I’m not. I’m here for answers, to take revenge for blood spilled on their centuries-old Persian rugs.
I transferred here in search for answers about what happened to my older brother, who hightailed out of here, and my friend who seemingly disappeared into thin air. I certainly wasn’t here for the attention of the star hockey player, regardless of how much he willed my eyes his way. I wasn’t here for his scrutiny or his judgment or to read into his mysterious aura. I was here for the society, because only they held the answers I needed. That was, until I found out that in order to get those answers, I needed to go through him. He’s saying if I want in, I have to play by their rules, follow their lead.
It’s a game I’m willing to play.
I may be the second person I know of to be invited into their society, but I’ll be the first to make it out intact.

“I wish he’d just let me go, but like the ivy, he stayed”
You know the saying you should let sleeping dogs lie? Well that surely doesn’t apply to Amelia. She feels drawn to research a missing girl she barely knew in high school and she thinks her brother may be involved. What she doesn’t realize is she is about to jump headfirst into a world of secret societies, lies, deceit and oddly enough everlasting love.
Amelia finds herself at a new college her senior year. She’s trying to be closer to her brother who had an accident and to appease their father. She also feels oddly drawn to the case of a missing student that she knew in passing and who wrote for the same college paper Amelia now writes for. The deeper she digs the more sinister things become such as the people in creepy cloaks roaming the college halls. She befriends a girl named Hailey and has captured the eye of the mysterious hockey player Logan. The more she digs the more she discovers her family may not be what they claim. She also starts to depend on Logan who has never shown an interest in a girl long term before. When her brother has yet another accident, she dives into a secret society she never knew she was a legacy too. The unspeakable starts to happen and Amelia’s life flips upside down but she knows she can conquer anything with Logan at her side who has a few secrets himself. While yes she is strong enough to handle it all it helps to have someone in your corner rooting for you especially if that someone knows exactly what you are going through like Logan does.
I couldn’t put this book down! I never saw that ending coming. I loved how headstrong Amelia was. She might have been a rich girl, but she didn’t act it in fact she wanted to make her own name in the world. Logan at first put me off but he came around and I started to adore him. I learned that maybe his personality to the outside world was just a mask he wore to put people off his trail. Hailey and her dad can go jump off a bridge over alligator infested waters for all I care. I need more! Fingers crossed for another heart stopping mystery packed book.
3.5 stars. SPOILERS AHEAD! Maybe I fed into the hype too much. I was looking for a super twisty secret society and while I did love the mystery, I also knew the plot twist as soon as the evil character was introduced. There were so many hints along the way that it was where it was headed and I felt like more mystery would have been so much more gripping.
I am also very done with men who sleep with half of the university before they find a girl they stop for. Do you want to be with a guy who has slept with 1,000 women (give or take) because I really don’t. I realize they “didn’t mean anything to him”, but a guy who has a harem of girls around him all the time isn’t someone I’m going to fall all over. I liked how Logan only had eyes for Amelia when she was around, but he definitely still got around when he supposedly was trying to court her. I am not saying that people won’t like this, sooooo many people love this idea of a guy turning around for his girl, but this one missed the mark for me. I love Claire’s writing and how she wrote this one so I will definitely read the next in this new series
HOLY MOLY. THAT WAS AWESOME!! I’ve read lots of suspenseful romance books before but this is hands-down the best book ever.
Logan Logan Logan….I wasn’t sure what to expect from you, but you turned out epic. And Amelia is devinely perfect. She had just enough intelligence to get away with being too nosy.
I’m just floored at how great this book was.
I loved every minute of Mae and Logan! This book will suck you in! Do not have any fear—it is truly a stand-alone and will not leave you on a cliffhanger! It is one of my top picks for 2019! I cannot wait for Twisted Circles next March!
This will go down as one of my top reads this year. AMAZING, I was completely in awe of the twist and turns throughout each page.

Suspense, slow burn….oh and frenemies! Yes! This is a suspenseful secret society book from Claire Contreras. Kept me hooked the whole time and I couldn’t put it down! Amelia needs answers about what happened to her older brother at the college she just transferred to. She’ll do what she has to do!
Wow !! This story freaking blew my mind away . I was Enthralled from beginning to end . Romantic suspense has become a favorite for me this year and Claire knocked it out of the park . Addicting is the perfect word for this book .
Logan is pure Alpha but the kind you hate and love at the same time . While Amelia ahh I just love her ! Their story is Hot , sexy and everything you won’t expect . Just read it now !!
I couldn’t wait for this book to come out so I did everything I could to get an ARC! Because that’s what we do for Claire books, right?
This book was SO different from anything she has written in the past. It was suspenseful, intriguing, and a page turner. And the characters!!!!!! They were very well developed and we got to know them on a personal level. This was angsty and so much fun to read! I had my suspicions, I felt like I was a sleuth, waiting and wondering about the clues.
I want my review to be spoiler free……but the octopus is such and awesome representation of the story. I can’t wait for more Claire. I REALLY like this side of you!
While waiting for the second book, might I suggest you gobble up ENTIRE Paper series! Swoon. <3
Wow Wow Wow I almost don’t even have words. I just finished reading the book then the extra bit which made me fall even harder for Logan.
This was an amazing different kind of read from Claire and she does it so well.
Amelia “Mae” had broke up with her boyfriend and moved schools for her senior year of college following in her father and brother’s footsteps. But weighing on her mind is the mystery of a missing girl that no one seems to be putting much effort into finding. She is hearing talks of secret societies and sets to uncovering the mysteries. Logan is the hot hocky star that has set his sights on Mae but he is a player. There is mystery, romance, heartache and it is hard to put this one down. LOVED IT. Cannot wait for the next book in series- Not a cliff hanger
I absolutely devoured Half Truths by Claire Contreras. A romantic suspense story that will have you at the edge of your seat! Add in the slow burn and steamy chemistry between Mae and Logan and you will not be able to put this book down. Mae is looking for answers about what happened with her brother and her friend. This is how she finds herself in a new school her senior year.
I loved the uniqueness of this story, the connection between the main characters and the mystery that surround them. Mae was smart and determined. Logan was hot and broody. Could Mae trust him? We followed their journey and even as we learn some things, others are left unanswered. I am excited to see what is next in this series!
4.5-stars. Happy reading!
A nail biter of epic proportions!
Half Truths will pull you in from the beginning, and doesn’t let you go. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and loved every second of it! It’s got intrigue, it’s got secret society’s, it’s got romance. You can’t help but love Mae and Logan, even if you aren’t completely sure of their intentions. All Mae is trying to do is find the truth behind her brother’s accident, and becomes embroiled in many half-truths. Along the way she keeps running into Logan, one of the big men on campus, and finds she simply can’t stay away. I loved the sparks these two were giving off!
Half Truths is a book that you will want to reread again just to see what else you can pick up. I adore Ms. Contreras’ writing, and Half Truths is probably my favorite book of hers ever.
Romantic suspense is one of those genres I have to be in the mood for. When I saw Claire Contreras had one coming out, I knew I had to read it and I happened to be in just the right mood. I love everything this author writes, so I was pretty confident I would love it. After reading… That was just… wow. I was completely blown away!
Amelia Baston is starting at a new university for her senior year of college. Due to her brother being injured and her wanting to be near him, she goes to the school everyone in her family had been to. She’s not just there to get her degree, she wants answers. There are missing girls, secret societies, and somehow, her brother, who is her very best friend, may be involved. She’s desperate to find out what happened. But she finds herself finding out far more than she bargained for…
Logan Fitzgerald is one of the most popular athletes on campus as the star of the hockey team. He and Amelia run into each other more than once and it’s apparent there is something between them. Amelia doesn’t know what to think about Logan at first. She’s not sure who to trust, which is understandable. But with time, she does know she’s starting to fall for him.
I really did love this book and I was completely enthralled and addicted all the way through. I never wanted to put it down. It did take me a while to connect to the main characters, especially the hero. I didn’t care for him through the start of the book, but he grew on me by the end. That last 25% or so threw me for a loop. It’s also when I started to connect to Fitz and actually like him lots. I can’t wait to get the second book in this series. I really want more from this couple, but I have a feeling the next book will be more in this world, but a different character’s story. Either way, I can’t wait to find out and read more!
This is the perfect fall read. It’s got just the right amount of mystery and suspense, and even the slightest bit of spookiness (but not a scary kind of spooky). It’s captivating, steamy, and kept me guessing throughout the entire story. It’s a flawlessly written story full of secrets that is unputdownable. Highly recommended to lovers of romantic suspense!!
Half Truths by Claire Contreras is an edge of your seat romantic suspense with a slow burning enemies to lovers feel, with layered secrets that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end!
Right from the beginning this secretive mystery had my mind spinning with guesses of who was quilty/innocent the villain/prey, and the firey chemistry that kept pushing and pulling between Amelia and Logan had my heart pounding happily.
The ending was very much unpredictable with just the right amount of hold your breath anticipation and shocking satisfaction when all is revealed, with a beautiful romance that survived all the secrets. Although this can be read as a standalone it left a great opening for so much more!!
Claire Contreras is an author who’s writing I always instantly connect with, the minute she starts talking about a new book I’m sitting on the sideline counting down the minutes till it releases.
Half Truths captured my attention with the blurb, and held it with the mention of secret society’s. I love secrets and I love surprises, so Romantic Suspense is my reading jam and Claire Contreras knows how to write these types of stories in a way that has you questioning everything around you.
The main characters in Half Truths are Amelia (Mae) and Logan who have an instant dislike to each other when they first meet. There relationship was the epitome of the slow burn, there instant attraction eventually grows into something so much more that was an extra layer to the overarching plot of Half Truths.
Half Truths was unpredictable and unputdownable, I was instantly enthralled from the Prologue. Fantastically written, intriguing and full of twists and turns I never knew what was going to happen next. Half Truths had me on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails in anticipation for the end reveal and once I got to the last few pages and had answers to my questions my mind was completely blown!
Claire Contreras knows how to grasp your attention and never let it go. The plot was a fast moving beast that kept you engaged and flipping pages to uncover more truths. Half Truths was an enticing read full of intrigue but it wasn’t enough! I still have questions that need answers and I definitely need more of Claire Contreras’ words!
I loved the premise of Half Truths and was eager to see what ride the author would take readers on, and it was indeed a ride and one I think many readers will love.
I enjoyed the slow burn romance and the secrets driving the suspenseful plot, it set a specific mood that carried throughout the book. I also really liked the setting. The author did a fantastic job painting the scenes with vivid descriptors and flushing out the emotions of the characters, making it easy to become immersed in the story. Although I wouldn’t say Half Truths was chock-full of unanticipated twists and revelations, the way the story of the secret societies and disappearing students unfurled definitely grabbed and held my attention.
In fact, the story snagged so much of my interest that the romance ended up being a backstory in many ways. While I did like the slow build between Logan and Amelia and thought they complimented each other well, the chemistry between these two seemed to spark but not catch fire as much as I hoped. Perhaps it was simply that all the other action and suspense muted their romance, but despite the slow initial build, it felt as though their feelings developed and significantly deepened far too quickly based on their histories. Regardless, Half Truths is definitely worth the read, especially if you like plots that contain many moving parts.

Hands down my favorite read of the year. I really wasn’t sure what to expect going in and didn’t know if secret societies were going to do it for me. Talk about a pleasant surprise. It is the perfect amounts of suspense, mystery, and romance. In my opinion this is hands down Claire’s best work to date. If you are on the fence, give it a chance. I’d bet you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
This book was a slow start for me. It wasn’t holding my attention. Then all of a sudden I was hooked and I couldn’t put it down. There were lots of twists and turns. Some things I figured out while others surprised me. I loved Logan. He and Amelia had amazing chemistry. I loved the ending.
You Have Been Summoned!!! A riveting story that immerses you into a world that keeps you on the edge of your seat with angst & suspense. The romance develops brighter as each page is turned. Claire has created one of her best! From the very first page of the prologue I was captivated. The intrigue and mystery just never let up. Amelia is the kind of heroine I could read forever. She is strong and feisty but so very loyal to those she loves. She also is tenacious and wants to find out how this Secret Society is involved with her brother. Amelia finds herself running into the hot, star, hockey player, Logan, who also happens to live in her building. Their meetings are fueled with anger and disdain, but there is an obvious chemistry starting to build. Once Amelia finds out Logan is part of the same Secret Society as her brother, the two form an alliance and their attraction ignites. I loved how ominous this story felt, it was so foreboding. The clues were revealed just as they needed to be. And I loved Mae & Logan, they are perfect. I can’t wait for more from this secret world!!!
One of my top reads of the year! Claire Contrearas outdid herself!
I have loved every single book this author has put out but……..
YES!! ABSOLUTELY….YESSSSSS to Half Truths!!!!!!
This book is nothing like what you have seen from her and again, I will say that I love love love her previous books but…whew!!!- This book has a little bit of everything for everyone and it is written and delivered so flawlessly, if you (Claire Contreras) don’t consider it your masterpiece, I certainly do!
The new girl at school and the hot jock were just what I needed.
Watching them have this insane attraction to one another but denying it was the magic that sucked me in.
Add to it the mystery, secrets and twisty turns and I was hooked! (Sexy and romantic times are there too, just in case you had any doubt.)
I don’t want to say anything more than I already have because this is the kind of book you go in on-expecting nothing but getting EVERYTHING!
I would highly recommend this book and any other book by this author.
It was truly amazing and I could definitely go for another dose!
