What are readers saying?
–I read the entire eight-novel HADRON series in six days. I couldn’t stop reading even when I needed more sleep.–
–Stephen Arseneault has written a story that’s hard to put down; with believable, well-crafted characters and believable scenarios of normal people caught in desperate circumstances. I like this first book so much I plan on ordering the entire series.–
–I liked it and it terrified me. As I read I know that this is exactly where the world will be in a short time. Made me realize I need some well armed and skilled friends–
–I normally only read hard sci-fi. After reading the 1st HADRON book, I still wasn’t sure this was for me, but I had to find out what was happening next. Believe me, this story just keeps getting better and better!–

A wonderful read. I’ve since read Book 2 in the series and have bought 3 and 4 and am partially through Book 3. I believe there are 8 in the series and look forward to the rest!
I got this book for free via BookBub.
This book is marketed as sci-fi, but isn’t really. Other than a brief mention of the LHC and some alien spacecraft, this book’s plot is such a cliche: something bad happens to the world (or is about to happen); society (American) breaks down; a group of people – who just happen to have the necessary and complementary skills – band together and fight all the bad people while trying to go somewhere safe. There are more gun battles and killing in this book than there is sci-fi.
I guess you have to be an American gun-lover to appreciate this type of story. If you’re looking for some interesting sci-fi, this book isn’t it.
Starts out slow and stays that way for first quarter of the book. Unusual for this author.
Need to read the whole series if I am going to give a better reading.
Great story line, couldn’t stop!
Binge read the whole series in less than three weeks.
Great read
I got this one as a fill in, now I am on the 4th one and will definitely read all 8.
yeah it was a good read
I enjoyed the book, the author knows about people and their
personalizes. The book entertains & shows the characters as
in life. The reference to firearms knowledge can only be
learned by going through life. Although a bit more active
than in real life. The author balances fiction & reality well.
I’m looking forward to the next book.
Fantastical, written by someone who has little real world experience with the military or police work but as a fantasy adventure it is FAIR.
I love a good “end of the world as we know it” story. This one begins with a good introduction of the primary characters as they progress through the subsequent failure of civilization and their successful defense of their group.
My problem came at the end of book1. After reading several references to the helicopter having “hardened”circuitry the author provides a teaser for the next book in which the helicopter falls to emp and the comment is made that it was commercial. What? Where did the transformation from hardened to commercial take place. I hope he caught that error prior to release of the second book.
I like post apoc books, so this was right up my alley. Even though this is about the best prepared and equipped survivors EVER (they even have a helicopter), I enjoyed the action and bad guys getting absolutely destroyed. I recently started a some sort of “EMP in a snow storm we gotta get out of here” story…four chapters in and they still haven’t gotten out of the driveway. Terrible pacing and far too much thinking about things without taking action. Not so Hadron…fast paced!
A fun, entertaining read of a early-dystopian time based on the realization of alternative outcomes of recent scientific study. Good characters, witty realistic banter, and a light enjoyable sci-fi read. I’m thinking this lays the framework for the series and look forward to reading which direction he takes as he weaves the fabric of this series.
Too pat, and highly unlikely that a random group of people would have these capabilities.
Entertaining.
Probably won’t buy the next one.
I have only made it to 20% and while it is pretty well written, it is not my cup of tea. I have no motivation to finish it. Realism is vital to me in apocalypse stories which is an oxymoron, I know, but no way the cop that shows up is gonna be all thanks for killing all these people and who just happens to be friends with a guy with a helicopter who flies over at the drop of a phone call? Too unbelievable for me.
Best I’ve read in a long tjme!
Unrealistic plot
This book makes you realize how very vulnerable we all are if we suddenly loose our ability to communicate. If you are truly “on your own” how long will you survive ?
Fast paced space opera. Keeps you wanting to come back for the next installment in the series.
