You can lie down and give up, or you can rise and keep going…Walker’s been living life by this motto since the age of twenty when the girl he planned his future with shattered his heart and left a hole in his soul. His time in the military, and current job at In the Shadows Security, have kept him moving but he’s always felt the ache of that loss. From the outside Ellie McMaster has led a … McMaster has led a seemingly perfect life, big house, rich adoring husband, fancy cars. But it’s all been a huge lie, one that started nineteen years ago when she walked away from her first love and the boy who stole her heart. Now time has run out for her and with nowhere to go and nothing left to lose she’ll have to face down the pain of the past in hopes of saving her future.
But Trace Walker isn’t the carefree teenager she remembers, he’s now a muscle-bound titan with nothing but hurt and anger shining in his blue eyes. His time in the Army as a Night Stalker wasn’t easy, and he didn’t return home whole. Will he open himself up again and face the risks that come with having Ellie back in his life, back in his heart? Can this be their shot at a happily ever after, or their final goodbye?
Note: Walker is the fourth book of the Guts & Glory series, a six-book spin-off from my Dirty Angels MC series. While it’s recommended to read both series in order, each book can be read as a standalone. As with all my books, this has an HEA, no cliffhanger or cheating.

Loved the tale of Walker and Ellie. The story of an old love re-uniting with each other totally pulled at my heart strings. When Ellie realized she was in trouble she called the Only man that she knew she could trust without a doubt. Broke, Widowed, and on the run she turned to the last person on earth that she thought wanted to see her.
Trace has only wanted Ellie, she has been the one that got away for years. The story of how the two rekindle the fire and love that they have is excellently written.
Walker and Ellie has me in my feelings. Damn what an exciting exhilarating read. It’s full of twists and turns. Unpredictable with a heavy dose of steam. It is told in different points of view, no cheating, no cliffhanger, and a hea. I highly recommend this book.
Does Jeanne St James write a bad book? I don’t think so!
In this book we meet Trace Walker ( is that name sexy or what??) and Ellie Cooke. They once thought they would be together forever, but life happened. When Ellie contacts Trace after 19 years needing his help, he has to decide if he’s willing to let her back into his life or send her away. After all, she broke his heart once. Will they be strangers or will it be like no time has passed? I really enjoyed this second chance romance. And as always JSJ writes a HEA with no cliffhanger and no cheating.
I think Walker just took Crow’s spot in my heart. Maybe even Ryder’s, and that’s a tall order. I loved this book so much. Walker tries to be hard with Ellie but it just doesn’t work in pushing her away. Ellie comes to him for help and he just can’t say no. I really loved the two main characters. Just enough hard and sweet. Lots of Chemistry and unfinished business. I can’t say much without giving anything away, but…. Just read it! You won’t be disappointed. Love wins!
I don’t think there is anything better than second chance romance! Walker is pissed and rightly so and El is just trying to survive. It takes Guts to come to the man that you walked away from to help you! This is a sexy slow-burn second chance romance with an alpha that knew what he lost and wanted to find again. At least once made up his mind about what he wanted; he didn’t stop. Kudos to Jeanne St. James for another phenomenal book!
4 Walker and Ellie Stars
Walker is the fourth book in the In The Shadows Series by Jeanne St. James and is a second chance at love story. Ellie and walker have history. They both made a decision long ago that they would both regret.
“I’m assuming you’re between a rock and a hard place right now and you need me to be the crowbar.”
Ellie needs Walker’s help and she is desperate so she has no choice but to contact the last person she wants to see or hear from again. But she is all out of options. Walker a former Night Stalker, receives the call from Ellie and all he wants to do is ignore it but something deep inside makes him answer the call.
“This time I’m not letting you go so easily, El. I’m going to fight for you. Fight for what we can have. What we should’ve had all these years. I didn’t fight back then. I should’ve.”
There is a huge secret revealed in this book and I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to ruin the story. As always the author, St. James gives us the best secondary characters and we see some favourites in this book. Always enjoyable. I highly recommend reading this book and reading the series in order. Although it’s not required.
What is your is your even if you have to wait nineteen years to get it after a truck load of trouble. Neither Walker or Ellie were living a full life because they never got over each other so despite all the hell they both when through, it was worth it in the end because now they are older, sexier more experienced and more appreciative of each.
Guts and Glory: Walker
In the Shadows Security, Book 4
By: Jeanne St. James
Narrated by: Mason Lloyd, Ava Lucas
Don’t bother me when I am listening to Jeanne St James. She is one that I love to hear, and need my peace and quiet to fall into each story. Walker is no exception. A second chance at love, Ellie and Walker are together again. Not by Walker’s choice. Ellie is in trouble and had no where else to turn. Now it’s up to Walker and Shadow’s Security to keep her safe without him falling for her again. Or will he? Every book I listen to, I think it’s my favorite, but there is something about Walker that just pushes all the buttons. This man is an alpha protector, loving, strong and vulnerable. He is the entire package. I love this couple, their back story and the twists they have to overcome. The story builds on a high school romance and let me feel the resentment, the love, the forgiveness, the fear…every minute giving an emotion and keeping me engaged in their lives. And bringing in the our favorites, like Jewel and Diesel just give me that warmth and comfort of home.
Mason Lloyd could not have been better cast as Walker. He has that grit to his voice that gives Walker that alpha richness. Complimenting that sultry voice Ava Lucas brings in as Ellie, the two created a world I got lost in. They each add the emotional tugs, the strength in their personalities and a little suspense that kept my heart racing. I thought it was a fantastic narration.

5 star review of Guts & Glory: Walker (In the Shadows Security #4) by Jeanne St James
Audio Review
The fourth book in the series and is a second chance at love story; it is perhaps my favourite to date. Narrated by Mason Lloyd and Ava Lucas who did a fabulous job with the narration, I was engrossed in the storyline from the first to the last chapter and couldn’t wait to see what Ms. St James had in store for Walker and Ellie.
I fell hard and fast for Walker, there was something about him that really intrigued me and I couldn’t wait to listen to their story. The story was well written, gritty, raw and the performances by Mason and Ava really enhanced my enjoyment.
Both Walker and Ellie have been through so much in their lives and both still have issues that need to be resolved. The chemistry between them was off the charts and yet underneath you can feel the obvious love that they still have for one another.
As danger rears it’s head, will Walker and the team be able to keep Ellie safe or will it all be in vain?
Walker lost the one person he wanted to spend his life with. She left him when he joined the service out of fear he wouldnt make it home. When, years later, he gets a call from her that she needs his help.
Ellie is in a jam, she left her husband then found out he owed millions to a cartel, they expect her to pay.
Great read, I didnt want it to end.
I am having a hard time with this series because I don’t know if I love it more or the same as the Down & Dirty series. What a dilemma!! I have said it many times and I’ll say it again…Jeanne St. James writes the best series and I can’t seem to get enough of her writing. In this book we get Walker and Ellie’s slow burning second chance romance filled with steam, drama, secrets, twists and so much more that make this a fabulous read. I can’t wait to read the rest of this amazing series. I definitely recommend this book and this author to everyone looking for something great to read.
A s low burn romance. I love this story of Ellie and Trace is makes you see what it takes for a relationship to heal. Jeanne St. James has amazed me at the depths that she has developed her characters. With the backstory of Walker and Ellie you can feel it in your heart of when he looks into her eyes that first time again.
A second chance romance filled with action, steam, and tender moments. This was hands down my favorite book by in the series. I loved Walker and Ellie. Your heart will break for them but by the end it will be put together again. This was a great addition to the series and I look forward to the next book.
Trace Walker and Ellie McMaster’s story had it all – high school sweethearts, a lot of missed years, a second chance romance, secrets, danger, friendship, a sisterhood, and all the feels. Ellie and Walker were such an easy couple to love and root for.
After their breakup, and even after all the years that had passed, they were able to trust each other wholeheartedly. They just knew that, even though the years and experiences had changed them, their love for each other was still there and strong. I loved that they were able to be real with each other and show their vulnerabilities.
I also loved the scene where Rissa, Kelsea, and Frankie had a girl’s night with Ellie. They shared what it was like to love the men of In the Shadows Security, among a few other things. It was a scene that had me smiling and wishing for a “sisterhood” of my own. As always, it was also great hearing from some of the Dirty Angels. I would definitely recommend Ellie and Walker’s story, as well as all the other that came first.
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
Wow!! Ellie and Walker were the best slow burn i have read in a very long time! I absolutely loved this coming back together of 2 souls who never should have been apart. There are moments when I was sure that they may not be able to figure out this past and move forward but watching them fight for what they truly wanted was beautiful! This was not a typical In The Shadows story, but man did it ever catch ame and not let me go!
I love this author’s alpha males. This story was so good. I could not believe this BJ ook it was written so well and the chemistry was hot and sexy.
I love the whole Guts and Glory series and Walker just blew me out of the water. You will be biting your nails on the edge of your seat the whole time with this read. You won’t want to miss a minute of this exciting romance. Go grab this entire series today.
5 out of five stars
Loved it.
I absolutely love reading Walker looking
forward to reading the next book in the
series. Definitely a must read. I voluntarily
read an advance copy of this book.
Just like how her DAMC and Dare series gets better with each installment, this fourth offering in the Shadows series (connected with DAMC through the Beast aka Diesel) showcases an emotionally gripping storyline with St. James’ trademark distinct characterization and dialogue.
Walker is now my all-time favorite character by a long shot (sorry Crow and Zac). Without saying too much because it IS part of a very important piece of the plot, I am once again in awe and humbled by St. James’ depiction of diversity in characters and how she showcased the strength of the human spirit (physically or otherwise) after overcoming tragedy. I’ll also say that coming from five generations of a family that served our nation and loving people who experienced things/lived life similar to what Walker has, I became teary-eyed over the realism of the portrayal of what it’s like to live in the situation. Yes, yes; it’s a vague description. That just means you need to buy and read Walker and Ellie’s story!
Walker and Ellie’s story is about enduring, perfectly imperfect love that began at an idealized time, became postponed at the absolute wrong time, and picked up again at the right time. The road to right was paved with pain and losses, but as Catholics say, no matter how long the procession, it always leads to the Church.
This was a great story about a second chance at love. Walker and Ellie are great together. Another great book from Jeanne St. James. Look forward to more in this series.
