Retired Navy SEAL, Clint Backwater, enjoys his solitary life as owner of the Ask Questions Later gun range. It’s the kind of place you find because you know a guy. So when Leila Ortiz, a petite woman with a “baby on board” sticker on the back of her car—and an 18-month-old boy in her arms—shows up at the range, panicked and desperate for a gun, he knows something is wrong. Having grown up in the … up in the foster system, Clint has seen what happens when you let yourself get too invested—things get messy, people leave. He made himself a promise to never get emotionally involved again, but the former SEAL in him feels the tug to help this woman and her child.
Leila’s ex-husband is being released from prison early on good behavior and she found out too late. He was supposed to serve five years, not two, and Leila is unprepared to protect herself and her son. She promised him they’d never run again—they’ve made a nice life for themselves and the last thing she wants to do is leave it all behind.
When Clint refuses to give Leila a gun without lessons, she agrees to return to the range to learn. At first, Leila won’t say why she’s so desperate for protection, but when the threats from her ex escalate, it becomes clear what she’s afraid of.
Clint is a loner. Always has been, always will be. So when Leila and her little son enter his life, it hits him—hard—that maybe being alone isn’t what he needs. Still, having his solitary life disrupted when he invites the little family into his home is a bit tougher to take than he thought. With Leila and her son in danger, though, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe—even putting up with stray toys and changing a diaper or two.
But the biggest danger might be to his heart, when it starts to look like the safest thing for Leila and her baby might be to leave her problems—and her budding relationship with Clint—behind.

Good quick read! I wish it were longer and had more development between the characters but still a good book!

He’s a loner, she’s a mother trying to protect her son.
Clint Blackwater is ex military living a solitary life in the desert. He’s getting by running his range, Ask Questions Later (not a fan of guns). When Leila shows up with her eighteen month old son, Thomas. Her ex Mike is out of the slammer and coming for her. She’s twenty five and has never stood up for herself and has a lifetime of poor choices. But as a mother, she needs to do better.
Clint is great. He’s not a player, he’s not a billionaire, just a straight up decent guy who suddenly wants this ready made family when he has Leila and Thomas move in.
Drama with the ex.

This is the first in a new series from the very talented Leslie North all about Navy Seals retired who are just about to realise that their lives are about to change forever
Clint Blackwater is set in his ways that may have been a benefit when he was a Navy Seal but it ca make him a little staid and stuffy in his nee life as owner of Ask Questions Later Firearms and Training the gun range he owns in Ls Vegas. His life is thrown in to turmoil when Leila Ortiz and her son Tommy darken his business. She wants to buy a gun as she needs to defend herself against her ex husband a low level gang member who has recently been released from jail nd who isn’t happy that she served him divorce papers while he was there. Now Clint is embroiled in protecting her and her son while they slowly destroy his home with the mess that a baby makes. Will he be able to keep them safe will he realise that mess is part of life and will he get a chance with the woman he has grown to love and the little boy he thinks of as a son. You will have to read to see
Will Leila decide to stay with Clint
Leslie knows how to write a book to draw the reader in to her story so that you can’t put the book down until you turn the last page. Leila goes to Clint’s shop to purchase a gun to protect her and her son from her criminal ex who was released from jail. When Clint sees Leila, something stirs in him, and the need to protect Leila and her son. How it all ends, will warm your heart!
Once again this author has given a great storyline that flowed smoothly

Leila’s ex-husband is out of prison and not happy to find he is her ex. She enters Clint’s gun shop to purchase a gun for protection and learn how to use it. Clint is a former SEAL who is making a new life for himself. He doesn’t need anyone to make that life, or so he thinks. But there is something about the vulnerability he sees in Leila. She is a single mother with an adorable young son. Although she tries to be strong, Clint notices her underlying fear and the SEAL in him kicks in to protect her. When Leila’s ex shows up and damages her car, tries to get to her son at day care and invades the dental office where she works, Clint’s protectiveness really kicks in. But Leila thinks maybe she needs to head to Puerto Rico to live with her mom. She doesn’t want to bother and endanger Clint any more. When she returns to her apartment to find her Ex there waiting for her, threatening to take their son and kill her, Clint comes to the rescue. But can he show Leila that she belongs with him?

I love that this book is focused on a single mom that has chosen to start a life of safety for her son and on her own. This story is about Leila and Clint with her adorable little boy Tommy. Yeah it is a scary feeling not to have a partner that is supposed to be there for you but when that one chooses a life of crime; a mother must make a choice to raise their children the best way they can. This book features that, of course throw in a hunk of a seal and you got yourself a hell of a story. Seals are unique in the being overprotective and not allowing those to hurt the ones they care about.

When Clint first sees Leila when she walks into his gun shop, Ask Questions Later Firearms and Training, with her baby, Thomas, in her arms. His 1st instinct is that she is hiding something and that she is living in fear just by her actions and the look in her eye. She wants to buy a gun but she knows nothing about firing a gun. She leaves and he does not expect to see her again, but the next day she returns for a gun and lessons. Clint’s SEAL training kicks in and when he sees her in trouble he steps in and offers her and Thomas a safe place to live, with him.
Clint and Leila are also fighting an attraction to each other but can Clint let her into his heart and can Leila trust another man? Can she risk Clint getting hurt because of her past?
Leslie North keeps you on the edge of your seat with this story. This is the first in the series and each book is stand alone.

Clint was a SEAL, and retired from the Navy to a nice orderly life by himself, with no drama or complications. Leila divorced her abusive gang-member husband while he was in prison, and left with their young son. Clint invites Lelia and son Thomas to stay at his house for a while, and it’s bye-bye to neatness and order. Mike was released early, and now he’s back to claim what’s his. This book is a great start to a new series. There’s drama and suspense, emotion and romance. I loved the chemistry between the two of them. He started out trying to help someone in trouble, and lost his heart. The book is easy to read, and it drew me into the story immediately.

A single mom, a little boy, and a reclusive Navy SEAL.
Leslie North has again given her fans a great new series if this book is any indication. This is a complex and intense piece that blends not just danger, drama with action and suspense, but there are strong emotions and a beautiful romance inside these pages too. I loved Leila and Clint together. Make sure you give yourself time to read this book because once you start you will not stop till it is finished. Trust me I made that mistake started it rather late one night and I was up to the wee hours finishing it a good thing I did not have to work the next day. I highly recommend with a 5 star, two thumbs up, and high five. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This book was absolutely amazing. It was intense. It was entertaining and captivating. It was well written and the storyline was spot on. The characters were remarkable and the bond they shared was strong. The twist and turns in the plot gave it an edge. The pain and suffering was hard. The ending was a beautiful happily ever after.

These two fall fast and are too afraid to say what they truly want. There’s a touch of suspense and heartache, but they get their HEA in the end which is fantastic.
