Retired Navy SEAL, Clint Backwater, enjoys his solitary life as owner of the Ask Questions Later gun range. It’s the kind of place you find because you know a guy. So when Leila Ortiz, a petite woman with a “baby on board” sticker on the back of her car—and an 18-month-old boy in her arms—shows up at the range, panicked and desperate for a gun, he knows something is wrong. Having grown up in the … up in the foster system, Clint has seen what happens when you let yourself get too invested—things get messy, people leave. He made himself a promise to never get emotionally involved again, but the former SEAL in him feels the tug to help this woman and her child.
Leila’s ex-husband is being released from prison early on good behavior and she found out too late. He was supposed to serve five years, not two, and Leila is unprepared to protect herself and her son. She promised him they’d never run again—they’ve made a nice life for themselves and the last thing she wants to do is leave it all behind.
When Clint refuses to give Leila a gun without lessons, she agrees to return to the range to learn. At first, Leila won’t say why she’s so desperate for protection, but when the threats from her ex escalate, it becomes clear what she’s afraid of.
Clint is a loner. Always has been, always will be. So when Leila and her little son enter his life, it hits him—hard—that maybe being alone isn’t what he needs. Still, having his solitary life disrupted when he invites the little family into his home is a bit tougher to take than he thought. With Leila and her son in danger, though, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe—even putting up with stray toys and changing a diaper or two.
But the biggest danger might be to his heart, when it starts to look like the safest thing for Leila and her baby might be to leave her problems—and her budding relationship with Clint—behind.

Leila was terrified her ex would make her pay for divorcing him and keeping his son. After he was released from jail, she never wanted to have anything more to do will him. When his threats escalate and she is confronted with the man, it was Clint, an ex-seal who was there to protect her. Clint moved her into his home to keep them both safe.He had never wanted to be a family man, his time in the foster system had given him nothing but pain, he learnt to rely on no one but himself but his life in the navy had taught him to take care of those who were unable to care for themselves. He admitted he was attracted to Leila and her little boy but he had no intention of following through while Leila had been a fool over a man once before and was not prepared to risk her son’s life again. However the road to good intentions does not always lead where we want it to go. Leila was a woman to be admired, she had overcome pain and heartbreak to make a new life for herself in mu the same way as Clint had overcome his problems by joining the Navy. They were two strong and determined people who deserved an happy ending in life.

Sometimes you stop and beat back your fears. A SEAL at your back helps too. Leila Ortiz is being stalked by her psycho gang banger ex. Clint Blackwater, ex SEAL owner of gun range. Clint has a lot of excess baggage because of his history. He is a functioning broken man. Leila has a history of abuse and is determined to protect her toddler, Thomas. Leila walks into Clint’s gun store to purchase protection and what she considers safety, but finds an instant spark and an offer of protection. Will these two put down enough bags to start to trust each other? Are they ready to lower their walls? Will Clint ‘handle’ the ex? Will Leila continue to strengthen herself? Excellent story. Gotta love your SEALS and strong women! I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
I like Leila. I like Clint. The story is good but did move a bit too fast. It was also a bit disjointed. But the story line itself was good. I like Dev and Suzi and Rodney and Mama. There is suspense and tension and drama. There is uncertainty and baggage. But overall it works.
Guarding the Single Mother is the first book in a new series and was very entertaining and enjoyable read.
Leila is young divorced mother who is very protective of her infant son.
Clint is a vet who owns a gun range . He met Leila when she tried to purchase a gun for protection
For whatever reason he will do anything to help protect her and her son. This behaviour was unexpected of him.
Threats were coming but his feelings towards her were growing faster. Will Leila accept them?
The book is written well and the characters were enjoyable.

Leila was trying to protect herself and her son when her ex-husband was released from prison. Buying a gun and learning how to use it seemed the best way to start doing so. Meeting the owner of the gun shop, a former seal, was an unexpected bonus. Trained to protect, as well as being interested seriously in a woman for the first time, Clint does everything possible to protect Leila and her son.
The book is written in typical Leslie North fashion: entertaining and with a few surprises, serious at times, funny at times.
A good read. The book is the first of a series, but there is no cliff hanger to the happy end.

leslie has done a great job with beginning seal endgame. when leila and clint first meet she’s scared and looking to protect herself and her son. he’s an ex navy seal who’s use to being a protector.

Clint enjoys his solitary life but carries grief and loss from his time with the Navy Seals. On a recommendation, Leila goes to Ask Questions Later wanting to buy a gun to protect her and her young son from her ex husband who was released early from jail. Guarding the Single Mother is a great book with strong characters who have amazing chemistry. I would definitely recommend getting Guarding the Single Mother by Leslie North. Leslie North has become one of my must read authors.

Guarding the Single Mother is the first book in Leslie North’s latest trilogy – SEAL Endgame. Leila Ortiz is a sassy, determined single mother with a fierce independence and intensely protective of her little boy; while Clint Backwater is a somewhat reclusive retired Navy SEAL, and equally determined to continue his solitary life without the inconvenience of responsibilities, other than his business.
Thrown together due to Leila’s fear of her ex, this unlikely couple will need to navigate danger, disorder, and the undeniable chemistry that ignites as they find themselves sharing a living space, and dodging the mess and chaos created by a baby.
As with most of the stories I have read by Ms North, Guarding the Single Mother has an interesting storyline, flawed and emotionally damaged leads, and a rollercoaster ride on the way to the expected HEA. I enjoyed this story and look forward to the second in the series.
Clint Blackwater owned his own business a gun/shooting range and enjoyed the laid back life he lead in the Nevada desert.
Leila Ortiz is a single parent and mother to 18 month old Thomas.
Leila was abused by her ex husband who has just been released from prison. She is determined to protect her son at all costs.
Leila goes into Clint’s gun shop to purchase and Clint senses something is wrong and offers to sell her a gun if she will follow safety guidelines and attend some training sessions.
Clint follows Leila and discovers just how violent her ex is so he offers to let her and her son move in with him, for their protection.
This book is filled with action, adventure, drama and hot loving scenes.
I adore a military hero. It doesn’t matter if he’s still in active service or retired, there’s just something about a man in uniform. (Or out of it.) Clint is the model of everything that is noble and good in the armed services. I was falling for him almost as soon as we met him. Leila is so focused on protecting herself and her son that took me a lot longer to warm up to her. She’s so fierce and self-reliant that she sometimes comes across as cold and b!tchy. These two create a lot of sparks: both the good kind and bad. They’re both so independent and passionate, it results in a lot of conflict. It was so much fun to watch her and Clint chip away at the layers of protection they each used to keep everyone at a distance and find their happy ever after.

I liked both Clint and Leila. Leila was stronger than she thought she was to walk away from Mike to keep Thomas safe. I am glad that Clint was there to help keep Leila and Thomas safe. In the end they got their happy ending and I’m glad they got away from Mike.

Clint was raised in the foster system and learned to to count on no one. When he turned eighteen he joined the Navy and became a s Seal. He’s now thirty-five and retired. He now owns a gun and training range. Leila was in an abusive marriage until her husband went to prison and then she divorced him. She goes to Clint’s business to buy a gun to protect her and her son because her ex is out of prison. They are attracted to each other but can they learn to trust and lean on each other. I enjoyed this book.
This is book one in the Seal Endgame series. Clint is a former Navy Seal, he has opened a gun shop called Ask Questions Later. He has a nice, quiet uncomplicated life. One day, Leila and her 18 month old son, Thomas walk into the gun shop. Leila needs to purchase a gun, for why? Safety. Leila’s gangbanger ex husband has been released from prison early on good behavior and she did not get the notification. Clint sells her a gun on the condition that she takes lessons from him on all things about the gun. She agrees. Mike, Leila’s ex, finds her and approaches her but Clint steps in. Mike escalates to damaging her car. Clint steps in to help. Clint’s simple, uncomplicated life starts to get real complicated when Leila and Thomas move into Clint’s house. Things also start heating up between Clint and Leila. Can Clint keep Leila and Thomas safe? When all is said and done, can Leila find happiness in all this chaos? Enjoy!

GUARDING THE SINGLE MOTHER (Seal Endgame Book #1) By Leslie North
This is another new series for Leslie North. This is a quick enjoyable read starring Clint Backwater who is a former seal who now owns Ask Questions Later gun store with shooting range. Leila Ortiz is single mom to Thomas who is running from her crazy ex husband who is out early on parole. When she comes into his range wanting to purchase a weapon, Clint knows she is running from something bad. He wants to help protect her and Thomas.
When I pick up one of Leslie North’s books, I know it will be well written with a solid story line. She is one that will mix it up and try new paths in her writing. I am giving this 4 stars.
