Retired Navy SEAL, Clint Backwater, enjoys his solitary life as owner of the Ask Questions Later gun range. It’s the kind of place you find because you know a guy. So when Leila Ortiz, a petite woman with a “baby on board” sticker on the back of her car—and an 18-month-old boy in her arms—shows up at the range, panicked and desperate for a gun, he knows something is wrong. Having grown up in the … up in the foster system, Clint has seen what happens when you let yourself get too invested—things get messy, people leave. He made himself a promise to never get emotionally involved again, but the former SEAL in him feels the tug to help this woman and her child.
Leila’s ex-husband is being released from prison early on good behavior and she found out too late. He was supposed to serve five years, not two, and Leila is unprepared to protect herself and her son. She promised him they’d never run again—they’ve made a nice life for themselves and the last thing she wants to do is leave it all behind.
When Clint refuses to give Leila a gun without lessons, she agrees to return to the range to learn. At first, Leila won’t say why she’s so desperate for protection, but when the threats from her ex escalate, it becomes clear what she’s afraid of.
Clint is a loner. Always has been, always will be. So when Leila and her little son enter his life, it hits him—hard—that maybe being alone isn’t what he needs. Still, having his solitary life disrupted when he invites the little family into his home is a bit tougher to take than he thought. With Leila and her son in danger, though, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe—even putting up with stray toys and changing a diaper or two.
But the biggest danger might be to his heart, when it starts to look like the safest thing for Leila and her baby might be to leave her problems—and her budding relationship with Clint—behind.

Even when you begin this book and you have an idea as to how the story is going to end. The author takes you on a journey as if you are really going through a single mom’s nightmare of her ex-husband is released from prison and she was not notified. After one confrontation Leila walks into a gun store owned by ex-Seal Clint Backwater, he refuses to sell her a gun but tells her to come back later after he closes. Now with her 18-month-old, he finds a woman to watch the little one and begins to go through the process of training her at firing a weapon. When he finds out the next day that her ex showed up at her house and she needs a place to stay the man who wants to be a loner takes her and her child in. Here begins the closeness and with her still coming to the range there is something building inside of him that he has never felt. The problem is can he get Leila to stay and not leave town. A very good book and one that shows just how frightening it is for women out their against their ex’s either husbands or boyfriends even if you follow through with the paperwork it is still just paper and they can do something to them. A very good story. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at http://www.1rad-readerreviews.com
This is the first book in the SEAL Endgame series. This story is about Clint and Leila. Clint is retired from the Navy SEALs and he owns and operates a gun shop and range. Leila comes into the shop with her toddler looking to buy a gun and Clint’s protector nature comes alive. He can’t help but wonder why she needs it. Leila is nervous because her abusive ex got out of prison and is coming for her. Leila thinks he is going to kill her because she left him and she wants a gun to protect her son. Clint offers to teach Leila how to use a gun but he still wants to know why she is so scared. Clint’s protective nature is brought out by Leila and her son and when he learns about her ex, he vows to protect her. I liked this one.

“Guarding the Single Mother” is the kind of book that romance readers love to sit in a comfortable chair and enjoy a great afternoon of reading. Clint and Leila’s story is heartwarming as Clint takes on Leila’s abusive ex when he gets out of prison early. Clint, as a retired Navy Seal, is a protector and gets more involved than he planned to, but could never stand by when a woman and her son are in danger. Growing close to Leila and her son was never on the realm of possibilities for Clint, but sometimes love just sneaks up on you. The first book in the ‘Seal Endgame’ trilogy, it is an enjoyable read with a feel good HEA. **I was gifted a copy of “Guarding the Single Mother” via NetGalley** My review is voluntarily and based on my reading. 4.25 Stars!
The storyline was well written and the characters were so well developed that I was totally engaged as I turned each and every page until the very end!
He is a loner and runs a fun club. It is the way he likes it or so he thought. Trouble comes along when a young woman and her small child appears wanting a gun. She will not tell him why. Then he learns about her ex threatening her when he leaves prison she will be in danger again. Can he keep her safe? Will he lose his heart in the process? See if he can

This was another great quick read from Leslie North. I enjoyed reading this book.
I liked how the relationship between Clint and Leila progressed. I could really picture Clint in my head and I love that he immediately felt the attraction to Leila eventhough she had Thomas. He was such a strong man but I absolutely adored the part where he gives him the stuffed animal his parents gave him. My heart melted. I also loved that Leila was able to stand up to her ex.
Always the best damsels in distress with a cute kid and hunky ex military story writer to ever be read.
She wants a gun but he will protect her and her son
Take one retired Navy SEAL, one desperate and afraid young woman and her 18 month old son, an abusive ex-husband who is just released from jail and thinks she is still his and you end up with a very pissed off Alpha who is going to protect what will become his.
This is an interesting and engaging story about Clint, Leila and Thomas. Clint and Leila continue to fight an attraction that crackles between them and when things get more dangerous from her ex they may not be able to fight it any longer. But can they learn to trust each other and heal the damage and hurt they each are carrying.

Wowsa! This is one hot and spicy romance!
Leila has been on the run with her young son, Thomas, ever since she left her ex-husband when she found out she was pregnant. He’s a monster and she promised herself and her then-unborn child she would keep them both safe from him. But things are starting to happen again and she decides to go buy a gun for safety sake from Clint’s shop and firing range. Clint knows that Leila is scared of something or someone but she won’t open up to him yet. However, he can’t seem to just walk away from her or Thomas when danger comes and he takes them in to protect them. Neither one counted on the connection that would start from there.

A wonderful plot which is very well written by this author, she really does bring the story to life for the reader. The characters are fleshed out and relatable with believable dialogue. There are some possible triggers in this book due to some of the subject matter. Personally, though I loved this story.

Pretty good story about a ex-Navy Seal and a divorced abused wife with an 18 month old son. She’s nervous about her ex getting out of prison and finding her, with good reason. HEA

Guarding the Singer Mother by Leslie North is the first book in her SEAL Endgame series. I love Ms. North Military Romance series so I was very excited to see there was a new series to read. Even though this is a short story I loved it. With this in mind I give it the full 5 star rating.
Leila Ortiz is desperate for a gun to protect her son and herself because surprise her ex-husband is being released due to good behavior from prison. So when she walks into Ask Question Later and Clint Blackwater refuses to sell her a hand gun without lessons she’s scared. But when she says she’ll take them but only with him after she gets done at work little does she know that Clint will become her protector. When Clint offers her a place to stay because her ex has slashed tires and his MC club makes threats towards both her and son as well as Clint’s business Leila accepts his offer.
Clint finds that he’s falling love when Leila decides to pack up and move to Puerto Rico and he’ll do whatever is necessary to convince her to stay.
There’s a snippet at the end for the next book in the series, “Guarding his Pretend Wife” which I’ve already started reading.
I would have liked this book more if Leila wasn’t such an idiot.
Such a sweet story.
Both Leila and Clint had tragic pasts.
Pasts that taught them to fear love and fear life. I loved watching them come together in this sweet and wonderful book.
Happy reading!

Leila and Clint captured my heart in this romantic suspense. She was tormented by a violent, criminal ex and he was a loner and had no interest in relationships. Fate brought them together and he was destined to protect her and her son. Plenty of drama and some danger with the ex. The chemistry is explosive between them. Well-written and engaging. The characters are likable and entertaining. A good story with lots of steam.
I enjoyed this fast paced story.. I especially liked Clint; a buff, bad ass retired SEAL, but his humility made him more realistic. Watch out for Leila if she goes Mama Bear on you! Likeable characters. Mild steam. Fun read. I received a free copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
