A faded farmhouse, a devoted dog. One special season.Melinda is already at a crossroads when the “for rent” sign beckons her down a dusty gravel lane. Facing forty, single and downsized from her stellar career at a big-city ad agency, she’s struggling to start over when a phone call brings her home to rural Iowa. It’s not long before she moves to the country, takes on a rundown farm and its … rundown farm and its headstrong animals, and lands behind the counter of her family’s hardware store in the community of Prosper, whose motto is “The Great Little Town That Didn’t.” And just like the sprawling garden she tends under the summer sun, Melinda begins to thrive. But when storm clouds arrive on her horizon, can she hold on to the new life she’s worked so hard to create?

Good book!
The main characters are fully defined and interesting. You will enjoy
reading this book. I highly recommend it.
Wonderful character development. Gave a real sense of rural farm life and the net work that kept characters together.
Couldn’t put this book down
This was a great book. It gave you things to think about. What would you do if you lost your job and your career has come to an end. Making new connections with new people and picking up the pieces of your life and moving on.
Slow going.
I liked this book. The characters were believable and the storyline was interesting. What I didn’t like, and didn’t expect, was the sudden ending that left me hanging in mid-air. I’m pretty sure there’s a sequel and I will be happy to read it. Now I feel the need to know what happened to the people I grew to like in the book. Those abrupt endings are not fair!
It’s a wonderful read, about a woman getting into her middle years with all her goals and dreams crashing around her. She escaped the small town and created a life in the city that seemed rich and fulfilling, until a crisis makes her return to her roots, and a spontaneous decision to rent a house far in the country leads to a new beginn Ing. along the way there is much soul searching on her part, and interactions with the wonderful characters in small town USA.
This might be too slow for some, but I loved the detailed descriptions and slow plot.
Not enough action
This book was a little hard to get into, but turned out to be a decent read.
Loved these stories. I’ve read all in series so far.
I was drawn into that community. Especially loved the search for Hobo!
Not my favorite book.Sort if like a Hallmark movie.
A charming story of real life. After escaping to the city and “making it” for 20 years a lay off at work sends a woman home to her small home town for the summer. She “house sits” for an elderly man’s little farm. Learns new skills and finds peace for her soul.
Good story. Continue with sequel, Harvest Season. Excellent.
Entertaining but very slow with no real climax.
I’m sorry to say that I didn’t care for it. Just not my cup of tea.
I tried to get into this book but it as overly descriptive and too slow for me.
Boring. Never finished it. Very boring
