I’ve read every book in this series and it keeps getting better. I’m glad that Marco finally has the relationship he wants and the ghostly captain is the best. Even though the main character is a fledgling witch, the stories don’t revolve around it. I hope to find out more about Lucy and her husband’s past.

Paige Murphy is finally getting her life in order and the bookstore she inherited from her aunt is getting back on its feet. The last thing she needs to get involved in is a murder mystery, but that is what happens when the plumber discovers a body (skeleton) in her basement. She now finds herself uncovering the mystery behind a years ago cold case and it might point directly to her deceased aunt Nora as the killer. Can Paige, with the help of her coven and pirate ghost roommate, uncover the truth and catch the real killer? Or will she find herself in danger?
This is a charming paranormal mystery that is filled with humor, lots of quirky characters, a mystery filled with tons of twists and turns, and an adventure that is madcap and zany.

I loved the all the different rabbit trails to follow. Made figuring out who did fun and confusing at times. Good job.
Good cute cozy read. Can be read with out having read previous books.
The reason I gave four star is because it will not let me do 4.5 stars and the following:
Now this may be the migraine talking, but there are dreams about Aunt Nora that left me hanging. I kept hoping that they would be explained by the end of the book. Also the pirate ghost was left hanging for me also. She sent him to find Pippa but never followed up to me.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
This review is for the audio book.
I loved this book. This is book three and I am still really enjoying the series. It contains a nice mix of mystery, with a touch of witch craft and a playful pirate ghost, as well as everyday life that combines together to make an entertaining story that works well. The mystery was good and I wasn’t sure who the killer was until it was revealed. There was plenty of suspects to keep you guessing and a few that you certainly didn’t want it to be. The author makes you care about the characters because they are so well written and not just two dimensional like in some books. The witch parts of the book is very under stated and there is no spell casting or flying on brooms but I actually like it this way as it makes the story and the characters feel believable and like everyday people. The ghost trapped in the book is a lot of fun and very unique with the ghost being a pirate, I am glad he came into this book more. It’s just a fun series and I can’t wait for more books to be added to the series.
Paige has managed to save enough money to pay for the plumbing to be fix in the book shop she inherited from her Aunt. She soon finds herself having to deal with more than the loud hanging coming from the basement when the plumber finds a skeleton. The skeleton doesn’t remain harmless for long because a pair of very distinct shoes are found with the bones. The lady went missing after having a very public argument with Paige’s now dead aunt but she also used to own the coffee shop that Paige’s best friend and fellow coven member now owns. Paige fearing for her aunt’s reputation and also her friends freedom she leaves the book shop in the very capable hands of her assistant to investigate. With her friend a suspect and acting very suspiciously Paige won’t be able to rely on her coven for help. Will she still be able to find the killer? And a new place to live?
I like the narrator and think she does a good job of bringing the characters to life.

Grits, Gamblers and Grudges is a terrific cozy mystery. It is part of a series, but I did not find that I have not read any of the other books kept me from enjoying this story. The town of Comfort Cove, Texas is charming, as are the characters populating the town and this book. Ms. Lester has written an ideal cozy mystery with a spunky heroine, swoon worthy candidates for leading man, red herrings galore and lots of humorous dialogue. I am going to read the previous books in the series so I can spend more time in Comfort Cove!

Though this centers around a coven of 3 witches, a ghost and a murder, this book has next to zilch % of magic, spells, ghostly shenigans and other witchy things.
What it does have is a sassy, courageous and amazing girl who will go to any lengths to solve a mystery.
A decent read but honestly I felt bad about there being so little magic in the book.

A good story however I thought it needed more magical elements and suspense
This was the first book in this series that I have read. The book did not require me to have extensive background knowledge from the previous books in order to understand this one, but still reading the previous books would have been helpful. The story line was well thought out and the ending had a bit of a surprise for me. This is a series that I will have to go back and read in its entirety.

“Grits, Gamblers and Grudges” earns 5/5 Skeletal Suspicions…Engaging Fun!
Engaging paranormal cozy fun! Paige Murphy inherited a lovely bookshop from her aunt along with a small coven, an entertaining pirate ghost, some quirky friends, and overdue upgrades and needed repairs. But, the skeleton found in the basement has brought up questions about her aunt’s involvement, highlights a cold case, and puts Paige again on the trail of a killer. The cold case murder mystery is intriguing and unique as it points fingers to her late Aunt Nora, and although a third-person narrative is not my favorite perspective, it is well-written with enjoyable characters, vivid descriptions, and dialogue that illustrates personality…a few giggles are thrown in. I really enjoy a bit of the paranormal in my cozy, and in this series, the paranormal twist is fun, not juvenile hocus-pocus. I’ve read the other books, so I had a head start on background and characters connections, but newbies need not shy away. There are enough references to make this an enjoyable read. Thumbs up!
I love a mystery set in a bookstore! The characters in the series are wonderful and full of fun. The story has mystery, romance, suspense, and a dead body. Plenty of twists to keep you guessing.

Paige tries to make a go of a Book Store inherited from her late aunt, in a beach side resort community. And in addition to the tremendous rehab expenses, she uncovers a mystery deep within the basement that she must solve in order to clear her aunt’s name. The solution to the mystery is buried in the history of the confrontational characters within the community, a history complicated by the supernatural covens of darkness.
This book is Volume 3 of a series, but is free-standing; I did not read Volumes One or Two, and did not feel left out of the continuing narrative. (but now I want to read Volumes One and Two!)
Very compelling – keeps the reader going right up to the end.

Paige inherits a book shop from her Aunt Nora. A witch at heart she founded her own small coven with her sister in law and her best friend. During renovations in the bookshop a skeleton is found, with everyone assuming that this skeleton is Aunt Nora’s Nemesis who went missing 5 years before. Trying to proof her aunt – and also her best friend, who is also under suspicion, innocence she is rather busy. Add to that losing her living quarters and a pirate ghost in a book – and one has a perfect mix of entertainment – hilarious at times, thought provoking at times. All in all a perfect read for the summer holidays

Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore! Well, this story isn’t about Oz, but red, glittery shoes play a big part in this murder mystery. The story is fresh and fun, the characters fantastic, and it has the perfect amount of suspense right up to the end. Loved it!

I have not read any of the previous books and had no trouble reading this book. Paige inherits her Aunt Nora’s bookstore after her death. While struggling to make ends meet, she encounters some plumbing issues and takes out a loan to pay a plumber. While working on the pipes, the plumber finds a skeleton. The town people think they know who the victim is based on her red shoes, that were intact on the body. Seems Aunt Nora had a few issues with the victim so with the help of her cat, (who is obsessed with food) the resident pirate ghost, and her coven sisters Paige sets out to solve the murder to clear Aunt Nora’s name. This is a fun, fast paced book.
