Jonah Kingston, a man that has issues and problems that he’s not really wanting to face. Damon Grant has is own problems that he just doesn’t want to face and keeps buying them. He’s burried his issues down so much that he keeps people at arm’s length. Similar to Damon Jonah not facing his problems, even when truths are reveled makes him a man with a very big chip on his shoulder. When these two came together there was an attraction that they both wanted to deny. One being that Jonah has never been drawn to a man, and for Damon because he doesn’t want to let anyone in. There are things that are against them from the start. One being that Jonah is Damon’s hockey coach, and then there is the fact that they both don’t want either to be around. Jonah wants Damon gone, because of his attitude and also because he knows that he won’t be able to control his attraction to him. Damon wants Jonah gone because he sees him as a threat, and he knows that Jonah wants him gone. Their fighting adds to the passion that is building between them, with their every interaction. And Damon’s suggestive and forward comments are things that start to wear Jonah down.
Where there is passion combined with secrets there is miscommunication that can come between them. Secrets on both there parts that has the power to end everything before there is even a chance for anything to start. And when truths are reveled will they’ve able to come back from them? Is their passion and attraction enough to make them see that there is something there. Or are they just doomed from the start?
This one is full of hot as hell moments between the characters. Their chemistry is off the charts, so you shouldn’t expect anything less. You dont want their story to end. I found myself hitting the scene hoping that there was more. Be prepared to be sitting uncomfortably while reading this one, due to the panty wetting moments. Even if M\M romance isn’t normally something for you, this one is definitely one to read. Because deep down it’s a well written enemy to lovers story that needs to be read.
Another win by the fabulous Marie James!
Grinder has everything you could want, Enemies-to-lovers, taboo love, and sports! I couldn’t get enough! Oh it it is all kinds of hot! This will have you fanning yourself and worried the pages of your ereader might catch fire. And you will love every second of it!
Grinder is a super hot and steamy story. It checks off a lot of boxes. Are you into MM romance? Check! Coach/student? Check! Non-stop BJs? Check! Hot enough to melt an e-reader? Check! Plus added in some angst to keep the heart racing.
Damon Grant an openly gay high school hockey player. He is a leader on his team and very sure of himself. Damon comes off as a super cocky jerk on the outside but he really has feelings that run deep.
Coach Jonah Kingston is a former pro hockey player whose career came to an abrupt ending. He finds himself very confused about his attraction to his student. Coach Jonah is a young coach and he seemed pretty immature and so insecure.
This story comes with a warning, but if you like hot MM romance this one could be for you!!

I usually struggle with teacher/student romances, especially when we’re talking about high school students, but the age difference isn’t that big and our student is eighteen. Plus, the cocky Damon is the aggressor here. I’ll admit I didn’t care for Damon at first. He’s over the top arrogant and doesn’t seem to care who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. Normally, not liking a character would put the brakes on the romance for me, but there’s just something completely compelling about this one. I just couldn’t stop turning the pages. Part of that was me wanting to see Damon get his just desserts, but the more I read, the more I changed my mind. Marie James peels the layers of this character back little by little and I started to see the guy underneath the arrogance. Then we have Coach Jonah, who feels a bit sorry for himself and is trying to get his life on track. Oh, and he’s straight, or at least he always has been. Of course, his sexy as sin hockey team captain rides in to blow his plans right out of the water, or off the ice as it were. The story is dramatic, emotional, sexy as sexy gets, and angsty. Oh, the angst that revolves around this pair! It’s packed full of loss, betrayal, misunderstandings, and deceit, but with that, we also get love, redemption, forgiveness, and hope. The only drawback for me was that I would’ve liked more resolution with Finn. Perhaps, a bit of justice? That aside, I did enjoy the read with its too hot to handle romance and happy for now ending.
When former hockey player Jonah is hired as the new head coach at a prep school, this was not his dream; his actions cost him his dream and now he has to make the best of it. This is Damon’s senior year, but he is already a year older than everyone else, making him almost nineteen instead of almost eighteen, like everyone else. For Damon pro hockey is not his dream but it is his parents dream, but for the time being he will bide his time until he can get out from under their thumb. Jonah should not want anything to do with Damon but he doesn’t make it easy. For Damon he is used to getting what he wants and he has decided he wants Jonah, now he will do whatever it takes to get Jonah. What happens when the student becomes the teacher? Will Jonah cave to Damon’s advances and give them both the relief they need?
HOLY COW, this was soo freaking HOT! This had some sexy times scenes that were scorching! With a lot of drama, some hockey on the side, a few times where you really want to throat punch someone, and a couple that you just want to see make it through to the other side, this story was so good. I am ready for more from Marie James! This gets 5 stars.
Damon Grant is the captain of his hockey team at Chicago Prep Hockey Academy and is ready for a new year. He is happy that his parents supported him “coming out of the closet” and is ready for another championship year, after two previous championships.
Jonah Kingston is 25 and the new coach at Chicago Prep after the last one is fired. He is ready to put his foot down and not get taken advantage of by these rich boys who have a habit of getting whatever they wanted after his own life has taken too many twists and turns lately.
When Jonah witnesses one of the other players going down on Damon in the locker room after practice he is stunned to see how much he enjoyed it but an altercation with Damon afterwards has Jonah ready to kick Damon off the team.
Will Jonah and Damon be able to focus on the hockey game or are the two hell-bent on bringing each other down and will they discover something else in the process?
Wow – this is such a great book from start to finish with a few twists to make you wonder what is going to happen next!
I liked Damon but it was obvious that he was used to getting what he wanted. His relationship with Hall was interesting for sure and I liked how Hall denied what he was. Damon was confident in himself and set himself a goal in regards to Jonah and was going to do whatever it took to get him.
It was obvious that Jonah was escaping from his own past but as the book went on we understood why and stuff just blew my mind. I can’t believe the stuff that happened to him and how it really ruined his future and the person responsible just didn’t care as long as they got what they wanted. I understood why Jonah had his defenses up after his past but there was something about Damon that just got to him.
The tension at the beginning of the book in regards to Jonah and Damon was through the roof especially with each having their own agenda in regards to the other. There was so much friction between the two that you knew it was going to explode and things began to make sense. I was so mad at Finn for what he said to Damon yet the good thing was what came from it.
The two truly cared so much about each other but you were freaking out who was going to find out and then towards the end everything explodes with so many other factors. I was shocked at Madison and everything she revealed.
The end was great but the author totally has me curious about what is to come!!
I loved this book. It is a M/M book. Marie James really knows how to take a plot and run with it. Jonah and Damon really light up the pages. Damon takes a broken hockey coach and puts him back together again through humor and being a jerk. I loved that it wasn’t all flowers and candy but showed the brokenness of 2 people that needed to find love.
This is a must read if you like M/M books. – By Kristina
LOVE!! I absolutely love this book! Grinder is a Forbidden M/M romance, full of steam, sexiness and angst! There’s enough sexual tension between the two main characters you could cut it with a knife! I love this level of angst. I love being able to feel everything they are going through. Marie James’ writing is brilliant and sucked me right in.
Damon is on the high school hockey team. He is also team captain. He has a huge ego but through the story he surprised me. The way he was with Jonah towards the end of the book I really loved. I loved the way he cared.
Jonah, oh sweet Jonah. He is the new head coach and a little broken inside. I really felt for him! His brother is a complete beep! His betrayal towards his brother is something I could never forgive. His ex, well let’s just say she is a bit of a beep too!
These two have a real connection that I could feel through the book.
I couldn’t put this book down once I stated, it really grabbed and held my attention. I was sad when it was over. I want MORE, I want lots more of Damon and Jonah. I’m kinda hoping there is more to come. I can’t wait to find out if there is more and I really hope Marie has more M/M romances up her sleeve because I love reading this genre! I can’t get enough. I definitely recommend Grinder to everyone.
Hot and steamy! Jonah and Damon are perfect together, it may have started out like fire and ice between the two of them but when they finally connected it was hard not to cheer them on. This story had the perfect amount of angst, betrayal, misunderstandings and emotions to keep me entertained. Can’t wait to see what comes next from Ms. Marie James!
LOVED LOVED LOVED Jonah and Damon. I little taboo and alot of steam but with a wonderful storyline of acceptance of not only others but of yourself in a world that may not always be accepting of differences like the hockey world. Damon is strong and proud of who he is. Jonah…not so much…when the student becomes the teacher…everything changes but not always for the better.
This book surprised me in a good way. I was so invested in the book I couldn’t put it down before I’d finished it!
“His laugh is like a balm to my soul. One I didn’t even know was broken until he started putting it back together again.”
The age gap between the Mc’s didn’t bother me. But it was a huge deal in the story, and that bothered me. But then I started to think back when I was 24/25. And I remember I didn’t quite liked to look at people under my own age, lol.
“How do you repair a shattered heart when the injury is so deep inside of you only blackness can survive?”
One other thing that bothered me, was that they only talked about Jonah’s problems and past. They never talked about Damon’s.
However, I really liked this book! I’m thinking this book is going to be one of my new fav to reread!
“-Even spaghetti is straight until it gets wet”
I wish we could have gotten more of Lawrence, maybe in the future?

Jonah Kingston – is going through a bad patch. He takes a job as a hockey coach, in the hopes of turning his life around. Making a fresh start of things…
Damon Grant – is the hockey team’s captain. He takes no crap and doesn’t take well to orders. So doesn’t care much for having a new coach…
When these two characters meet its explosive..
Loved every minute of this book! I was glued to my kindle, I was turning page, after page to see what happens next. You could feel the build up of emotions. Going from hate, to attraction, to red hot passion. SO HOT!!
Friends since childhood, Gage and Bailey know each fairly well, even more when Bailey becomes the nanny for Gage’s little girl. Abandoned by her natural mother at birth, Bailey is the only mother she knows. Sparks fly when Gage and Bailey get together, but Gage holds a secret the can tear them apart, unless he can let go of the past and trust that Bailey will stay. Love this series. I want to read them all.
This book was great . Marie James sure can write male\male. I love the forbidden aspect of this story . At first I was a little iffy about the coach \ student relationship but the student is 18 and the coach is young. The book grew on me . It was hot and emotional . I loved it .
Oh this is a hot one (fans self). This is my first read my Marie James. This book was recommended to me in a FB group and I was excited to read it. It has 3 things I love; MM/taboo/hockey… enough said. Jonah Kingston is the hot, young new hockey coach at Chicago Prep and Damon Grant is cocky arrogant Captain of the Varsity team. Damon is good on the ice and even better off of it. He pushes every last one of Jonah’s buttons and enjoys every minute of it. Jonah knows its wrong to want one of his players, but the chemistry between he and Damon is explosive. If you love, sexy, angsty taboo reads then you should check our Grinder. It is hot, so be warned!
Pure MM Hokey Perfection! I have not devoured a book so fast in a really long time! I loved everything about this book. The entire book is HOT and so well written. I loved the play on an older/younger romance and the fact that is was a hokey story, well, fantastic!
Damon and Jonah are just so made for each other. I loved their individual growth throughout the story and the ending was amazing. I loved the villian aspect, I thought it added just what Jonah needed to make some personal changes. I could have lived without Madison, but I think that was the point.
Great writing, funny scenes, emotions galore, hot men on skates, passion and steamy by the rinks load this book is going into my favorites/must re-read pile!
M/M is one of my favorite genres. I absolutely loved this book, not only because of the genre but it is very well written with likable characters. Jonah and Damon steam up the pages. Jonah is a new up and coming hockey coach that takes his star player, Damon to task. That doesn’t sit well with Damon and he hatches a plan to get Jonah fired, but it backfires in a major way are their true feelings are exposed. Will they separate themselves from the family drama and let their true feelings shine through?
