I am so happy to be back with the original crew. Although I hate to see Kayla’s dream getting ruined I love the way they all rally around each other and support one another. After the devastating loss Kayla & Dave suffered they take some time to go back and visit Mike, Joe, Morgan & Kate while they wait for the insurance company. While they are there Kayla talks to her sister in law and starts to realize that maybe her life isn’t as over as she thought it was. After bad news from the insurance company and a heart to heart with her brother she and Dave talk to the crew and decide that it is time to join Mike & Joe on the new journey they are taking. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. These stories always leaving me wanting more.
We definitely start off on somewhat sad notes as the resort that Kayla built burned to the ground. I really felt for her, to have something that was her livelihood all gone.
As the rest of the crew and especially her husband Dave, keep her spirits up in very pleasurable ways, it still is in the back of her mind, will she just give up, start over, such a big decision, she is just overwhelmed
I read the story in one sitting, it was a great page-turner. There was a lot of angst, so much emotional turmoil but when the crew comes together there is nothing hotter.
Kayla and her husband Dave are devastated to lose everything they’ve built over the years to a raging fire. She is unsure if or how they’ll recover..
Thankfully she has her husband and their crew to support them both.
“Her life was a hot mess. But 5hat didn’t meant wasn’t still amazing, and that she couldn’t transform it into something even more amazing than it had been if she kept her husband and her friends close. They could do this. They always had before and she didn’t see that changing any time soon.”
There were a lot of people/relationships to keep straight and remember who’s who.
I love the connection the Powertools and Hot Rod crews all have together, both in and out of bed. They proved their love and loyalty through the good times and the tough times.
4.5 stars
I suggest the previous book, Drilled should be read first to get the full impact of this book. This was an emotional story for Kayla as Bare Natural Resort burned to the ground and she must pick up the pieces after the devastation. Grind was also a story about hope and a new beginning. My heart broke for what Kayla went through and I really enjoyed following her new journey with the love and support of Dave, the Powertools crew, the Hot Rods and Hot Rides gang. I love this series and cannot wait for the next book.
Before starting this book I suggest you read “Drilled” first as this story picks up at the end of that book. Since the beginning of this “follow-up” series, the Crew has been pulled in different directions and on the verge of unraveling. In this addition Kayla’s life goes up in flames and it will take all the Crews to help her. The ending of this book left me wanting “Pound” to come out immediately so I could find out what happens next! Luckily I am a patient person Ms. Rylon… I received an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book as well as purchasing a physical copy which I am voluntarily reviewing.
If you read “Drilled”, you know that at the end of the story the resort was under fire and panic had ensued. “Grind” starts off right from that moment and a heartbreaking one it is. Total destruction. Not only of the physical buildings/lands, but also the emotional devastation. But will the support of the crew give Dave and Kayla the strength needed to overcome this loss? Will the familiarity of love and family be enough to find a new path? Or will the decisions that need to be made just become too much?
Wow, each book gets better and better! I am really loving this continuation of the Powertools series. Grind brings us all of the emotions Kayla and Dave are dealing with due to a tragedy from the last book (no spoilers here in case people haven’t read it yet) and Jayne Rylon certainly knows how to write those emotions into words. All of the crew pulls together, along with the Hot Rods and Hot Rides crews, to try and help get everyone through the “storm”. I can’t wait for the next book
Kayla’s world is ruined. Her business is destroyed and she isn’t handling the next phase well. Can Kayla accept that something better can come from destruction?
Grind is the latest addition to Jayne Rylon’s Powertools The Original Crew Returns series. I enjoyed returning to this world and couldn’t wait to see what Ms. Rylon had in store for us. While this story can be read as a stand alone it is best having read the previous book at least as this story starts where it ended. I felt so bad for Kayla. She has lost her dream. She is struggling to accept the loss even as her tribe moves in to give her support. But is accepting it making her someone less than? I love seeing Kayla claw her way out of depression and into acceptance. She is used to being strong but this loss is stripping her of who she thought she is. This story takes us on an emotional rollercoaster as Kayla and her friends find a new norm
***4 Stars***
Drilled definitely ended on a somber note and had me wondering just where things were headed with the crew and I have to say, things got rough in this one in more ways than one with the ‘divide’ as well as all that happened with fire, but I really liked how everyone worked through the various issues and came out better for it on the other side. This isn’t to say that there aren’t a few things still needing to be ironed out, but I’m loving how things are going thus far.
I’ve probably said this before, but I haven’t read all the original Powertools books, but even without reading them, I’m really enjoying these “What happens after the HEA”, it’s be fun seeing them all settled in their relationships and just dealing with whatever life tosses at them. My one issue doesn’t have to do with all that happens in the book, it’s more about the description for the book. IMHO it doesn’t really match up for me, but outside of that, this was a great addition to the Powertools world and I’m looking forward to what is coming up next!

I thought that this was another terrific entry in this series that brings back all our favorite characters for an updated look at how their lives and loves are fairing. This book features couple, Kayla and Dave. I found the story very engaging and emotional. Of course, there is also plenty of heat and sizzle to be had as things progress. I am posting a candid, volitional review.
Kayla and the crew are back for a powerful story. Kayla has to overcome emotions that are eating away the seams of her existence. With the help of the team they are there for support but will she come back from all the drama surrounding her. This story has a lot packed into it with all of its hot romantic twists and turns for Kayla and her crew!
Changes are hard and changes forced upon you from natural disasters are even harder but the crew is always there for each other and this disaster is no different….love in abundance, understanding with hearts and new found places may bring them all back together again. Loved it!! I volunteered an honest opinion for this book
This was really Kayla’s story. I thought it was well done. You got a strong story and steamy love scenes. Exactly what JR does well. I think this is my fav of the revisiting to the Powertools crew books. Watching everyone grow and change is so good. I am super curious how the final 4th book plays out.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. What do you do when your world seems to fall apart due to a fire that burned down everything you worked the last 2 decades for. You start over – and do it together with the people you care about and who care about you as well. So ist does that a little convincing before Kayla realized, that her future is about to change for the better when moving to Middleton for good and therefore bring the whole crew back together. A very deep-reaching story (ha, pun intended) that deals with making the right choices not only for yourself but for the people around you as well.
Dave and Kayla are the focus for Grind, and they are as solid as ever. Trouble is, things are fraying at the seams for Kayla, and she can’t focus on anything but where she thinks things should be. Lucky for her, Dave, Neil, James, and Devon are around to keep her preoccupied. But this is something Kayla has to face and figure out on her own, within herself. The love and support she continually shuns is there for her once she sorts things out. Super sexy times outdoors and on a raft, because this is Kayla, and some wonderful coupledom and polyamorous times. Amidst the emotional turmoil, the sexiness keeps coming!
