She’s a grim reaper who wants to save her friend’s life, but will she end up having to harvest it instead? Ayla is a former foster kid who doesn’t believe in things that go bump in the night. Not when there’s plenty to be scared of right here during the day, thank you. But all that changes when she gets the text. It’s from a long-lost friend who disappeared from foster care without a trace years … disappeared from foster care without a trace years earlier. A friend who told her spine-tingling stories about dark magic and witches. A friend that has resurfaced after years of being on the run.
Were all those late night ghost-tales all just stories? Ayla needs to know, because now Sarah doesn’t just want to see her, she wants to meet in an abandoned gothic cathedral.
At midnight.
Alone.
And those things that go bump in the night? They just got real because what Ayla finds in the church isn’t just a friend waiting for help. It’s something that will change her life forever.
That is…if she lives through it.

Thea Atkinson’s creation, Dyre a small American town full of Supernatural beings, some good, some bad and some evil incarnate, all fighting, some for survival, some for love of family and some because they can!

“Grim” is the first installment in The Atkinson’s new urban fantasy “Reaper’s Redemption” series, which features Necromancers, Angels and Grim, and offers a brand-new take on the Grim Reaper trope. Angels of Death are all but ‘angelic’, their curriculum for getting you into Heaven should be outlawed and Hell seem to be really empty, because all demons are here, surrounding Ayla every step of the way.
Ayla herself have a good heart and a very bad reputation, and thus when a friend (or so she thinks) messages her to ‘come along’, she goes into the church, no questions asked and find herself on the wrong end of a psychopath’s ritual sacrifice. And just like that fate strikes and reveals her non-human nature, she overpowers the killer – good riddance – and ends up in a burning Gothic church, sacrificial altar included, and of course gets the blame as the police arrive. Which in fact is the least of her problems, because the things that go bump in the night do really exists and Azrael has the most outrageous business proposition you ever could imaging “if you get the killers, I got you the heavenly price”.
An unique story, fast-paced, action-packed, suspenseful, with twists that challenge keep on challenging the ‘Angel/Heaven’ perspective, with some paranormal romance triangle and enough slat to keep you on your feet… running (aka turning the pages with your thumbs). Entertaining story, great world, as long as it keeps contained in the books…. but in any case, if you get some cryptic ‘dm’ check back before running into the action
A thrill ride worth taking! Packed with tension action and unique characters. The story draws you in and keeps you reading. Couldn’t put it down!
I enjoyed reading Grim. I found the storyline interesting and enjoyed the characters. I found both well written and developed. I recommend reading. (I received this book as an arc and am leaving a voluntary honest review)
Such a cute story story. A Reaper of angels or a Reaper for the devil? A friend needed help and Ayla went to a church to see what she could do to help her. After Ayla got to the church it caught on fire and what happened after that was unbelievable. She needed help! Good imagination, good storytelling.
THIS AUTHOR IS EXCELLENT I WILL READ MORE BY HER
The writing is not only good, it is witty; the characters are very believable for a fantasy; and while there is a lot of sex, it’s not excessive, and is mostly believably tied to the relationships — unlike so many current books that read like a sex primer. (What happened to buying the Kama Sutra, The Joy of Sex, or ANY Japanese pillow book? … I’d much rather read about developing relationships! But that’s just my opinion)
I enjoyed it. It has a different approach to Supernatural than what I have heard before, so that was nice. Page turner.
Action packed, emotionally thrilling roller-coaster adventure filled with magical and engaging charters, heart racing twists, unexpected turns and exciting moments. An edge of your seat, highly entertaining journey.
this was a great book it kept me reading till the very end. I loved and can barely wait to read the next one and see what happens.

Seventeen-year-old Ayla grew up in the foster system until her grandfather found her and petitioned for custody. Her foster sister Sarah taught her how to take care of herself so when Ayla gets a text from Sarah to meet her at the old church, she goes. Only Ayla does not find Sarah, what she finds is a Grim Reaper out to take her life. This story is fun to read even with all the messiness of the supernatural. Can’t wait to see what Book 2 will bring. Highly recommended.

The beginning reminds me of a horror movie, a pretty girl walks into an abandoned church, late at night, because of a short text asking for help. Thankfully, things end slightly better for this girl. Yes, she is attacked and almost dies in a church that is now on fire, but she saves herself and is also saved by a firefighter. Cue the questions, battles, some answers and a possible romance. This is a good story where the heroine questions herself, her perceptions and what’s she’s willing to do for the people she loves.

Ayla is thrown into a world of absolute truths and severe consequences. There is no gray area when dealing with death; even the question of morality is tossed out the window. There were some good things, and things reminded me of the show Supernatural–like the little plot twist at the end–but it only made me want to binge-watch that show for the nth time.
I did enjoy reading Grim; it was one of those cotton candy reads, satisfying but with no real substance (not to mention predictable). However, with that said, I would more than likely read the next one to see if things progress further (or rather in the way I anticipate). Sometimes cotton candy is nice, especially when it is wrapped up with questionable love interest, supernatural elements and monsters, and of course, death.

And so another series begins that was an amazing read. I was hooked from the first chapter and read it in one sitting. I liked the setup and the main characters . Plus the bit of mystery and danger were also good. I liked the feel of the regular world with a dash of the paranormal and that what is to come can be anything. Still some unknowns and mystery about our 2 main characters too. Just a great story that sucked me in.
This book starts out fast paced and action packed. It keeps you busy reading every word. Twists and turns throughout this phenomenal read. This is a unexpected find of genius at work.

Crazy time. Aah, it sounds like that is true. Almost getting killed, then finding out you had changed to become something you had no idea even existed. How do you use some thing you don’t know you have? Or even what it is? What ever or who ever can tell Ayla how to defend herself from the paranormal she has to find it or them soon. Not a bad story at all. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was glued to this book from page 1 until the last page!
