Griffin Drake always gets left behind. While his cousins leave Grove to have adventures, he’s stuck babysitting his increasingly distant and crazy cousin, Jasper, the king of the mountain. When his cousins come home to help, they all find mates, one after another. Griffin is left alone, without even a way to meet a mate. He’s always been bad at talking to women. Then he meets Lilah, who is down on … is down on her luck and easy to talk to. He offers her a job as his pretend girlfriend, so he won’t have to live through another family get-together as the only un-paired dragon.
Suddenly, he’s not behind at all. Lilah moves in, gets along with his family, and lights up his life. He was sure the universe had forgotten about a mate for him, but now he knows Lilah is the one. All he has to do is convince her it’s not all make-believe.

A really good shifter romance.
Lilah just can’t seem to catch a break. Her neighbor’s been getting her mail but didn’t get it to her until it’s too late. She’s overslept because her sister needed somewhere to crash and she gets fired because she’s missed too many shifts as a result. The same sister who ends up stealing her wallet so she can’t pay her bills and now she’s gotten an eviction notice. The final straw is when her car won’t start so she can get cat food and put in applications for a new job. To say Lilah is having a bad day is putting it mildly… so when Griffin, one of the dragon shifters, finds her crying she doesn’t think life can get much worse. Griffin is exhausted from trying corral his cousin, Jasper, and is just trying to take a break when he spots Lilah and convinces her to come with him for a drink to get out of the cold. That’s when their lives get really interesting.
This the fourth book in the Aurum Court Dragons series and really should be read in the order it was written as each book builds onto the next.
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well written. Loved it. He has a lot of weight put on him by family members for several reasons, which interfere with his personal life and happiness. Making him lonely, embarrassed and so much more. She has a life that is always trouble for her in many ways. She keeps loosing everything but herself. By chance they meet and things change for both of them. Really good story and worth reading. I voluntarily review a copy for booksprout.
ARC review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Wow great story it’s of lilah who thinks a curse is ruining her life. When she meets Griffin a matelic Dragon in Groove who is tired of his family and not having a mate .
Griffin and Lilah
Even though I enjoyed this book I was just a bit disappointed in it. Griffin was the dragon that never left the mountain and he has a lot of resentment for the other family members.
Are curses real or do we make them fact by believing in them? Lilah has always feed into the curse because this is what her family passed on for generations.
These two will need to figure out what is in their best interest so that they can have life with out being dictated to by family obligations.

Freedom from the curse
Yet again this author has blown me away with her ability to draw me into a story and hold me hostage until the very end. This book contains, a gorgeous, caring dragon shifter hero and his down on her luck mate who is the victim of a curse……..Maybe? You will have to read the book to find out, but I will tell you it is a wild ride that will have you, laughing, loving and crying by the end. I can’t wait to read Jasper’s story.
Loved this book! Have to find the first part of the series now! I fell into this book by accident but stayed connected to the last page! It was a suggested book on KU so I took a chance on it and now I need to find the story that came before this one. I don’t even know what number this one is in the series, but I’ve not read any of the ones before it and still got into the characters and all of the action. I loved the way the curse was “lifted” for LiIlah and hated how everyone dumped on Griffin all the time. They made a good pair but it took them a long time to realize it themselves. I read this in one day, really just a few hours, I wanted to see if she would stay or if her loser sister Vivi would come and wreck her happiness again. I loved the realness of the characters too, I’ve found a new addiction!
To me this is the best one yet. Griffin has been my favorite since the beginning. He’s had all of the responsibility for handling Jasper from the beginning. Only recently have the others come home to help. Lilah has lived in Grove and even went to school with the Drake’s (even if they don’t remember). Lilah’s life is blowing up. Griffin is so full of resentment and anger he does not play well with others. Actually, he has no idea how to talk to a woman. Being privy to his inner thoughts and knowing what he wanted versus what he said cracked me up. That made me like him even more. I felt the others took him for granted. Just because they found their mates they still expect Griffin to drop everything when Jasper acts out. I thought he should have gotten time off for sticking around when they all took off. Lilah kinda irritated me a little. Everything was because of the curse. She took no responsibility for anything that happened to her. I loved Griffin for not giving up and it was worth it. He was so sweet with Bumble and I wondered if they really were communicating. Another thing I loved was Lilah’s idea about Jasper’s mate and how she spoke her mind with the other metallic dragons. I am chomping at the bit for Jasper’s story.
I was looking forward to Griffin’s story, but I am kind of disappointed in the cover. It does not fit his description at all in this series. I thought Griffin’s brooding more serious, but it is just he feels abused by his cousin’s and left out. We learn move about Jasper’s mate, and why the other dragon clan is searching for her. I am disappointed in the type of mate the author decided to give Griffin. I just wanted to smack her and tell her a curse is a state of mind. Where are all the strong women this author was writing? This woman is a waste of space, and her self pity made me sick. I was thinking, Griffin you can do better than this.
Another terrific story in this great series. Lilah’s sister has just stolen her purse and drained her bank account. Then Lilah loses her job. Her phone is cut off because she hasn’t been getting her bills. Then her car breaks down. Griffin finds her sitting on a bench looking very downcast. He offers her a job as his pretend girlfriend to get his family off his back. This was a very enjoyable read and I loved Lilah and Griffin.
Griffin has stood by Jasper the longest. Jasper and his family took him in when his own father went mad from his beast.
And now his pushy cousins come back home, after enjoying time away saying they need a break to be with their own little mates.
where was the break for Jasper or for Griffin? where were the rest of the court then?
and he sees an absolutely sad young woman and takes her for a drink. and he feels… could it be? regardless, he does not know how to proceed with exploring options and understanding dealing with a potential mate who is human, and so very frail and sad.
What will it takes for them to both realize the truth of their being Mates? when tragedy strikes, and she turns dragon as well, can they hold on to their selves and their dragons?
what battles lie ahead to preserve the dragon Jasper recognizes as his mate?
steamy and action packed!
great KU hot read!
I received an advance copy from Booksprout.
I read it on Kindle Unlimited – and my opinion is voluntary and my own.
Steamy fun and action packed romance!
Loved it, a dragon worn down by duty and a human under a curse
Griffin is the one who stayed behind. He is the one that called his cousins home, no longer able to handle Jasper alone. They have found their mates, Griffin once again bears the brunt of keeping Jasper’s dragon out of trouble. Jasper and Griffin were once like brothers. He feels he has lost his brother. He just can’t do it any more. His solution, hire a girlfriend, he knows deep down that he will never have a mate.
Liliah’s family is under a witch’s curse, well the females are anyway. She has just been fired again, for which she blames her sister. She is low on cat food, she is about to be evicted and her phone is being shut off. The curse has brought her to the brinks of disaster. Then she meets Griffin. She is in awe of the metallic dragon, one of the Kings court. She is just a human, who tries to fade into the background.
Griffin has a solution for both of their problems. He offers her a job posing as His girlfriend. She reluctantly agrees. She worried that her curse will only being heartache to her and disaster to Griffin. She has some stipulations, which Griffin systematically breaks, because his dragon wants Liliah.
An attack on Liliah, at a dragon family picnic, complicated things. She fears what the curse will do the dragon family. Griffin doesn’t believe in curses. When Griffin declares they are mates, she doesn’t believe hims. He does everything he can to help Liliah adjust to her new reality. When the dragons after Jasper’s mate attack again, Lilliah can only thinks of the danger Griffin is in and goes to his rescue.
Fast paced and a little steamy. Loved Griffin and Liliah”s story. I felt so sad for them, they were both in such a dark place and happy that they found each other. Can’t wait for Cora and Jaspers story.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought Griffin and Lilah’s story was incredibly cute and sweet. It was easy to feel Griffin’s frustration and loneliness and I was so happy that he found Lilah. She was so perfect for him. A delightful read that offers a charming story filled with heat and heart.
Griffin hated being left behind, he was left to look after his cousin, whilst everyone left Grove and got on with their lives, and now his cousins are back, he should be happy but he’s not…..
Not only are they back, but they have all found their mates. It’s just not fair, no wonder he’s a grumpy recluse!!
He’s sick of looking after his cousin, he might be king of their mountain, but to Griffin he’s a pain in his butt!!
Lilah’s life feels like one large curse….. It’s a family curse that has dogged their families lives for generations.
And the promise she made to her dying mother feels like a millstone around her neck, her sister does nothing but take, take, take!!!
She’s just lost her job, she’s about to be evicted, and her sister just ran off with the last of her money….Will she ever catch a break?
So what does it take for Griffin’s family to stop looking at him like a charity case? A girlfriend would be a start……
Meeting Lilah was great, blowing his chances of a second date seems imminent, who would offer a girl money to date him? But Lilah is desperate, so she accepts.
What happens next is a roller coaster of a ride!
I really liked this one, I’ve wanted to find out about Griffin from book one. He was raised in the gold dragon household, Jasper and Griffin were raised as brothers after Griffin lost his mother. His father became unstable so it was agreed he’d move in.
But reading this book you get more of an insight into their relationship. Griffin really does care for Jasper, but it’s getting wearing, always on call, always the one to put out the fires and wrestle the dragon. Night after night, and what’s more jasper’s dragon is getting clever, it anticipates moves and is almost evading capture. The fights are getting tougher.
You had to feel sorry for poor Lilah, nothing goes right for her, the family curse had definitely got a firm grip on her. Losing her job, getting behind on the rent, so now she’s getting evicted, and her lovely sister has run off with the last of her money (her sister has all these money making schemes that never work)
So when a stranger in a bar offers her money to be his girlfriend, Lilah is shocked, but part of her wants to take him up on his offer!
Moving in saves her from being evicted, but she had to remind herself that it’s not real. But boy does she want it to be real.
And when she’s attacked by a rival dragon, Griffin is worried that all bets will be off, because for him, it stopped being a charade, both the dragon and Griffin want Lilah for keeps!
And the ongoing war for Drake mountain is more than just land. Is it to do with Jasper’s mate?
Excellent paranormal Dragon shifter romance with lots of angst. Griffin has been caring for the king for years. Now that his cousins are home they still call on him and he resents it. Lila has had nothing but had luck most of her life and needs help. Griffin comes up with a way but things go wrong. It’s entertaining and action packed. The characters are interesting and entertaining. This book is part of the Aurum Court Dragons. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Hartley.
Set aside an afternoon for this adult paranormal romance which takes place in April in Grove, Colorado and starts when Lilah James is once again late for work. I received an ARC from BookSprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
