Another treasure from this exceptional author…
Whether this is the first J. T. Lawrence book you have read or not, I’m willing to bet it won’t be your last. The author has a gift for building worlds you want to visit with characters you can relate to and love. Raven, the main character in this story, is a contemporary witch residing in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is fun and quirky and like most of us, has an abundance of problems (she just has a very different arsenal with “witch” to tackle them). I loved the mash of paranormal with everyday normal and the mix of witchy magic with modern technology. The story does include some swearing but no graphic violence, or explicit sex scenes. J. T. Lawrence has delivered yet another story that will ensnare your imagination and keep your attention delightfully enthralled until you finish the last page. The audiobook narrator, Roshina Ratnam, also deserves recognition for the exceptional performance she offers with this reading. Her voice is pleasant and soothing, yet in possession of sufficient range to provide each character with a unique vocal identity. If you enjoy adventure, mystery, magic, action, and humor, you will enjoy this urban fantasy treasure.

A great collection of easy to read sci-fi stories that will keep you turning the pages until you finish the entire collection. Each story deserves 5 stars individually as it takes you to places that completely jump start your imagination. Four great stories, written by four wonderful authors that give you stories that hold their own and take your mind and emotions in directions you just plain didn’t expect. If you’ve never read any of these authors before this box set, this is a great introduction, especially to J.T. Lawrence and Jason Werbeloff who expertly transport you in time and place and introduce possibilities in the not to distant future which may not actually be too far fetched. Although they were all engaging, intriguing and thrilling, I have to say my favorite was the work by Lawrence about erasing and reprogramming memories. Completely worth the read, you won’t be sorry and I’m certain you will find at least one author to fall in love with and follow if not all four.
This book is four short stories about living in the future. If cyberpunk themes are your thing, then these are the books for you. Here you will live under the ocean, there is sexbots lurking about, memory hackers and much more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
4.5 stars
This is the first time I have read anything from these authors. The anthology is a bit of a change from my usual genres and it is a welcome one. It is an intriguing look at a futuristic society from the authors’ perspectives. Like any compilation, there are some stories that will appeal more than others and they are not for the faint of heart. There are poignant moments that the reader can take away as teachable moments. My favorite story was “The Camille” which dealt with nanotechnology as the reality is that this may come to pass in the very near future. It begs the question what will the world look like when this is the reality and is it a good thing? Overall the stories were creative and engrossing. I look forward to reading more of these authors’ works.
I volunteered to read an advance copy of these stories and these thoughts are my own.
Will blow your mind.Fantastic collection of 4 disturbing dystopian scifi novels
Grey Magic (Realm of Smoke & Ashes #1) was a great read by J.T. Lawrence. Raven Kane is a real life witch who is accused of murdering one of her clients. She must explore her past lives in order to keep her freedom and finding her way back to magic. I enjoyed this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
This is a great read that sucks you in from the first sentence and doesn’t let you go! The narrator did an ok job, she seemed quit flat through most of the narration, the story alone sang through. I loved the story itself, the writing was top notch, the plot sucked you in, and you just HAD to see what was going to happen next! I’m thrilled to have discovered this author, and thank you for the opportunity to review this gem!
