The things you learn from these books is enlightening to say the least. Your eyes are opened up to various aspects of these civilizations. Myths that you thought you knew. Realizing that you knew some but not the others. Realizing that you were wrong on some is truly amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed learning them. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This bookset is just okay. Sometimes, it seems like it’s written for children, but then the author says something that would be completely inappropriate for children, and then talks about your mom and dad again. So I’m really confused who the audience is supposed to be.
The bookset is very short with very little information. It’ll be a sentence or two about the god or event, and then a couple of sentences about something personal like his wife or his own self. It seems so out of place. I get that he’s trying to be funny, but it just doesn’t work.
GREEK MYTHS / EGYPTIAN MYTHS / ROMAN MYTHS: YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE YOU DIE! BOX SET REVIEW
The author’s words:
The YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE YOU DIE! series is a fascinating and immersive educational collection of publications that delve deep into numerous and far-reaching subjects across the educational spectrum; ranging from GREEK MYTHOLOGY and EVOLUTION to HISTORY and the constructs of our UNIVERSE. You have much to learn before the Grim Reaper comes-a-calling so read on and fill your mind with mountains of insightful knowledge. Knowledge you can use for a brighter tomorrow.
Now, mine.
Should one know Greek, Roman, and Egyptian myths before the Grim Reaper comes-a-calling? (Of course, duh! if you ask me)
Are they far-reaching and insightful? Hell, yeah!
Is this the best fascinating and immersive educational collection one can find? Naah, not really. There are definitely better ones out there!
This one didn’t even cover the surface. There were bite-sized passages on the actual characters and their stories and a lot more wry commentary.
There were some really bad( or good?) puns scattered, the section on Apollo started with ‘Apollo-gies for not mentioning him sooner…’, made my eye roll literally. While describing River Nile, he wrote ‘Birthplace of Egypt and those who live in denial…’, I cracked up at that one. Denial-The Nile, get it?! XD
All this did make the tone of the book light-hearted.
I had gorged myself on all the works of Rick Riordan. Hence the bar was already set to high. To my much disappointment, there wasn’t a lot new to learn here.
Out of all three, I appreciated the Egyptian set of stories the most.
Then, there were some things in the writing that kept nagging at me. Bare in mind, this work is for those, of whom have never read these myths, of which are long and many. Now see, this sentence sounds off. Bare was used for every instance of bear and there was an ‘of’ cropping up wherever ‘who’ and ‘which’ are used normally.
I think the author wanted his work to come across like, you won’t even realize that you are reading these age-old stories as you are laughing( or ridiculing actually, if you ask me) all the way. Like I said earlier, one who has not delved into these mythological worlds ever, might enjoy this book much more. For them, it should be light and revealing.

I struggled to finish this because I was determined to leave a review. Let me just say, I don’t give one star reviews lightly. I can generally find something redeeming in a book but I can’t figure these books out at all.
I knew that this was a shorter collection, but I had assumed that it would be focused on more little known facts and stories perhaps. Or an overview- things that “I must know before I die” as the tag-line implied. In fact each volume begins and ends with several pages of advertisements for other books, making it even shorter.
The information on the Greeks, Egyptians and Romans are all actually a listing of common gods and goddesses, some extremely short overviews of certain myths, some extremely short sections on common practices of the day. Nothing ground-breaking. But it was the presentation that was just dismal.
Nearly every page has some “ha-ha, wink-wink, nudge you in the ribs with an elbow” humor(?) on it; as though the author has an extremely high opinion of his wit and wants to make sure that is the focus instead of the actual information. I looked everywhere to see if this was supposed to be humor or satire but couldn’t find anything, so can only guess it was meant to be factual. At times the humor was so juvenile and kept mentioning parents and homework that I thought it might be geared to the 8-12 range, but then other jokes were so inappropriate that I certainly hope not.
As an example speaking about the same goddess on the same page he writes: “…you would not want to mess with this Goddess of power and might when she was having her monthly visit from
Aunt flow; Christ, my partner is bad enough.” followed sentences later by “…so please heed this warning lest you be brutally mauled to death left unable to hand your homework in on time
(Sorry Miss, Sekhmet ate my homework!)”. This is also a pretty good example of his “humor”.
A lot of the jokes are very local as well, which if the author wants to appeal to an international audience, then repeated jibes at Brexit or comments like “this must have been one Hell of a long journey!; almost as long as when the train from London gets diverted via Seven Sisters every Sunday.” aren’t really helpful.
He seems obsessed with the fact that there were a lot of inter-family relationships amongst the various pantheons, repeatedly questioning whether “incest was as taboo back then” and comparing it to “Southern trailer park trash”. Perhaps he could have researched it instead of just wondering. For his edification, the gods/goddesses were not necessarily seen as being good/morally just. While it was not widely practiced, all three cultures did employ it at times, particularly to strengthen bloodlines or strategic alliances amongst the most powerful. Which then makes some sense that the pantheons- the most powerful beings- would do it as well.
In -every single one of his books- in the middle of actual book, he’s trying to shill his other books. Examples: “…affair with Cleopatra ‘the Queen of Egypt’ (For more information about them both and the Egyptians’ Mythology please check out my other book in the ‘YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE YOU DIE!’ series, priced from only 99 cents, just CLICK HERE” and when speaking about the Roman baths: “bringing your kindle down to a bath these days, and catching up on the utterly immersive and enthralling Crime Adventure Collection ‘Follow The Money: A Tale of Tales’ by Myself (excerpt included at the back of this book.)” which is not even about Mythology at all. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another author do that and I read hundreds of books.
When speaking of the plagues of Egypt in amidst multiple bad jokes he writes: “Other kids’ games involving frogs, included here for your own edification (and a bit of filler) are Feed the Frog, Frog Hunt and Ribbit Ribbit Jump! of which is a variation of the classic children’s game Duck, Duck, Goose.” Obviously this has nothing to do with the plagues of Egypt, of course it doesn’t, the author says it’s filler! That is this box set in a nutshell right there.
I was quite excited to receive this from StoryOrigin as I genuinely have an interest in mythology. I was quite disappointed and shocked at the lack of quality and any not readily available information that wasn’t utter nonsense. I felt compelled to leave this review and this is honestly as nice as I can make it.
I loved this Greek Mythology boxset. I’ve always been a fan of mythology and this boxset touches on the ones I know. I also learned about some I didn’t know about beforehand. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves all mythology and/or Greek mythology.
I really enjoyed these books it’s a trilogy with Greek Roman and Egyptian mythes. In These books they have Little known facts, stories you have and haven’t read much more. I love Mets ever since I read Odysseus‘s journey I have been addicted and recently found out they have local meats from most countries that in the world. The thing I like the most is no matter what country the mythology is from they usually cover the same things in the oven the same monuments events like the flood that’s in the Bible is in most mythology books. I highly recommend this book it’s just for the little known facts they were great I love that they describe each character and I love the just for your information tidbits. I highly recommend this book it’s a great addition to any library.
This book set was interesting to read but, even though it has funny bits added, in my opinion, it was a little too dry for recreational reading. Still, I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Greek, Egyptian, or Roman myths.

Greek Myths You Must Know Before You Die! by David Fuentes and narrated by Jason Hunt turned out to be an entertaining short listen. You learn about Greek Mythology- the good, the bad, the ugly. There’s a little pop-culture and humor thrown in. It was a short enough listen to keep my interest but not long enough it put me to sleep. With that being said, these books are not for everyone- listen if you don’t mind humor that goes anywhere or don’t mind learning the brutality behind some of the myths (incest, rape, etc.). The narrator, Jason Hunt, did a good job. Would listen to him again.
“Also known as Athena The Virgin she is said to have been born from her father Zeus’s head after he swallowed her mother Metis, fully grown and ready for war!; so nothing out of the usual there.”
“He walks on all fours as a baby then upright as an adult and finally on two legs plus a cane as a senior citizen; because God knows he’s not safe behind the wheel.”
“He was said to have defied the Gods by giving man fire; so you can thank him for that flame-grilled whopper by the roaring fireplace.”
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
I swear this guy needs to write books in the genre of humor!! This book is funny in his own way. I have never laughed so hard. I have only read this book and his Reverb book, David is fast becoming my !its face Indie author. I hope the other books in this series are as funny as this. The Greek myths are spot on, but what makes it funny is his own little comments he puts in the stories.
This book is highly recommended!!
