Washburn County Deputy Amber Monroe is following in the footsteps of her sister, Jade. She devours everything she can during her detective training in hopes of being promoted soon.Living in small-town USA has its advantages, like a sense of security, and disadvantages, like being close to Milwaukee and its crime. Washburn County has become the dumping ground of murder victims, courtesy of its … of its neighboring county to the south.
When two men are discovered on the outskirts of North Bend, each with a bullet to the head, Amber’s team, led by Lieutenant Jack Steele, hits the highway in search of a killer.
Assisted by the Milwaukee PD, they go deep into Brew City’s underbelly, which reveals far more than anyone ever expected. Crimes involving murder and counterfeiting keep the team running in every direction, but it’s Amber’s attraction to a new man in North Bend that puts her front and center on the killer’s short list.
Note: All Amber Monroe books are standalone stories but since characters carry over, they are best read in chronological order.

Editorial Review:
“Fans of C. M. Sutter’s Jade Monroe crime thrillers will be pleased to learn that Jade’s younger sister, Amber Monroe, is about to make detective and kicking off her own law enforcement career in small-town North Bend, Wisconsin. Amber is determined to succeed in law enforcement and eager to prove her investigative chops—along with another deputy who happens to have psychic abilities—and she gets the chance when two dead bodies are dumped in North Bend. There’s also the intrigue of a possible counterfeiting ring turning up in town, making this fast-paced tale a terrific kickoff to the new series.” Angela M., Editor, Red Adept Editing

I really liked the characters. It was well written and easy to follow. So many times a gook will have too many characters which makes it so hard to remember who did what.
An All nighter to hard to put down
I expected a fascinating look at the last days of Marilyn. However this book kept going over the same facts over and over without much narrative. I read approximately 1/4 of the book and stopped to read a different book that was more organized and interesting. Maybe I will try to read more later, but I wasn’t impressed with the style.
Okay. Kind of simplistic
The writing style seemed amateurish to the point that it was distracting. I couldn’t finish it.
I really liked it and would like to read more in the series
Enjoyable clean read. Nicely done!
Enjoyed reading this crime story, but found it easy to predict outcomes and events. Would have liked some romance mixed in. Author was clever in her use of dialogue.
This is a good book, really good police procedural, an easy read.
amateurish writing but a decent plot and characters. Not enough explanation of who they were.
easy to follow along, iteresting enough to keep you reading.
Fast read, good story line
Excited to read the next book in the series. Love the characters and their capabilities. It was an interesting story line.
Great suspense.
Way to much torture and it ended badly, kept hoping that things would get better but they never did! Not the kind of book for an older woman to read at bedtime!
I enjoyed reading it. I found the characters well developed but the psychic detective with dreams is a bit much. I also liked the fact that the descriptions of scenery, architecture etc. did not go on and on as so often happens to pad books out. The wise cracking was a little overdone too.
It was so-so. It was a fairly predictable story with fairly stupid bad guys.
Made me want to read the next book
Was okay. Feel like I missed something by being in the middle of a series.
Plot may have been good; however, I quit after the second chapter. The dialogue was too silly for me. It was as if I was reading a Freshman’s paper in a writing class.
