A dark, twisty thrill ride from beginning to end!
This is the first book in a four-book series. Just finished the third book and pre-ordered book four (release date in November). Each book tells a great story – fast-paced, action packed, with outstanding character development. A superb series and looking forward to book 4. Highly recommend.
Great first book in this series.
David Rivers is a deeply troubled man addicted to the highs only found by risking his life in extreme situations. The plot is well crafted and fast paced. The ensemble cast of characters are well developed and intriguing.
Excellent action novel.
Quick read keeps the pages turning with twists and action
Fun excape
Depressing.Lot of writing of suicidal thoughts
Working with the military and reading a story where the main character is always contemplating suicide was a little disturbing. We see too much suicide in the military these days. Other than that it was a very interesting read a good storyline with room for the character to grow.
My first book by this author, but definitely not my last. Very interesting characters.
The entire book was a description of gunfights. The main character has a death wish and has no regard for life…his or others. And the book ends with no resolution of what little story there was. I was pretty disappointed after investing several hours on this book
Kind of hard to get through all the internal dialogue the main character continuously engages in about wanting to commit suicide. Argh! The base jumping stuff is pretty cool. But, I couldn’t make it all the way through. Too depressing.
If you haven’t had a chance yet to dive into this series by Jason Kasper, you’re missing out!
When a story goes into detail about a man sawing off another man’s head, it usually is a strong signal for me to bounce. Not so in Jason Kasper’s first David Rivers novel, [greatest-enemy-by-jason-kasper]. The story is equal parts thrilling and mysterious, with an overdose of stomach-turning violence, at times.
But, violent as this story sometimes is, the plot clips along at an expertly-calibrated pace, and I found myself even relishing the “down” moments of the novel–for instance, the handful of scenes where characters pore over maps and blueprints to hash out the logistical details of invading an enemy-held compound. Other books may gloss over these “boring” details, but Greatest Enemy savors them, lending authenticity to the main cast’s military expertise.
This book was a huge disappointment. If you weren’t depressed before, you will be as you read the heaved up blabberings of a man truly in need of help. I am aware of the difficulty that some solders face as they transition into the general population. But this was a tremendous cry for help, and this person refused it at every turn. Abismal.
Great writer that can weave a plot! Could do without all the profanity which didn’t add anything to storyline.
Action that is fast paced and unrelentless; a first person hero who fights his own devils and seeks a home he can call his own.
Fairly predictable.
I read about a book a week, and many are just “cookie cutter” thrillers that don’t do much for me. Others have a protagonist that has unrealistic “superpowers.” Well, none of that applies here! David Rivers is a real original, and has his own limits and faults, but gets the job done anyway. These books are really fun and exciting to read, and Jason Kasper is a FANTASTIC writer. Can’t say enough good things about the author or the main character!
This book moved fast from the start.Trying to relate to David Rivers was not easy, not having experience with his previous life. The action was fast and you soon find yourself wrapped up in all that is going on. Non stop thriller. Good job, jason
