An elegant heiress. A rundown hobby farm. A rescue that captures the heart of a nation.Hannah Pemberton is ready to leave big-city life behind for bucolic Dorset Hills. It’s time to settle down and find the dog of her dreams. Adopting dilapidated Runaway Farm is definitely not part of her plan. But when she learns that the property, with its quirky collection of abandoned pets, is at risk of … pets, is at risk of being swallowed up by Dog Town’s relentless expansion, she decides to step out of her heels and into a pair of work boots.
Mayor Bradshaw welcomes Hannah’s fortune back to her hometown … until he realizes she’s protecting land that’s targeted for development. Political bullets start flying as Hannah tries to shelter a motley menagerie that includes a territorial terrier, a pugnacious pig and an eccentric alpaca. The city girl who doesn’t even know how to drive a car gets a crash course in animal husbandry after the City turns against her.
With the farm under siege, Hannah has second thoughts about rural life. But with so many creatures depending on her—and so many friends determined to help—she decides to ride it out. When it becomes clear that the mayor isn’t the only one who wants to wreck Runaway Farm, a daring ploy with a twist of romance may be the only way to tackle this hairy challenge.

Great and Small in Dog Town is the latest visit to Dorset Hills, commonly known as Dog Town. When heiress Hannah Pemberton returns to Dog Town she unexpectedly finds herself owning a farm that came with some rather unusual residents. She also finds herself in conflict with the mayor. Cori and all the Dog Town Mafia regulars are on hand to help Hannah and save her farm and animals. In this book it is the variety of different animals rather than dogs, who make this book such a delight and possibly the best book in this series so far. I loved this book and thoroughly recommend it to all Dog Town fans and definitely to all the readers who have yet to discover the charms and foibles of this unique town.
“Great and Small in Dog Town” was like a version of Green Acres. Big city girl ends up living in the country on a rundown farm.
Hannah is finally moving home to Dog Town and is just waiting for her perfect dog and a cute little place in town. Instead, she gets a feisty terrier, a spitting alpaca, a malnourished pig, and a dive-bombing parrot. Not to mention all the rescued animals that Cori brings by. There were some hilarious moments, my favorites being Alvina’s spitting and dancing!
Hannah always has a positive attitude, no matter what she’s going through in life, but Mayor Bradshaw is really making it hard. Thankfully her new friends really pull through for her.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Great and Small in Dog Town is another adventure in the most dog friendly place in North America. You can start the series here with book 8 because it stands alone. I have read (and loved) them all. The mayor is still out of control, but the old guard will manage to hold their own. Hannah ends up the reluctant owner of Runaway Farm with its odd ball collection of rescued animals. Can this non driving, former city dweller survive the mayor’s expansion plans, the sabotage and the kidnapped and dumped animals? Fortunately the Mafia has Hannah’s back! Do not miss this well written story with a great cast of characters.
Just finished the latest in the Dog Town series, and it’s a good one! I haven’t read all of the books in this series, but it’s easy to follow along and you don’t need to have read them all to enjoy this book. Hannah Pemberton, the lead character, is a NYC “city girl” who has decided to move to Dog Town to find a home and a community where she can start her own business. Her friend talks her into buying Runaway Farm, a dilapidated, run-down farm owned by a terminally ill man whose mission has been to find homes for homeless and rescued animals.
Hannah finds herself shedding her tailored suits and dresses for overalls and steel-toed boots. Her companions are an obnoxious blonde-hating parrot, a feisty, homely-looking anti-social terrier, a flock of chickens, cows, sheep, and other animals, as well as a mistreated pregnant pig that she rescues from his owner at the spring fair. It soon becomes apparent that her attempts to fix up the farm are opposed by the mayor, who has plans to sell the land to developers. His Honor will stop at nothing to try to force Hannah to give up her plans for improving the farm.
In addition to dealing with the underhanded shenanigans of the Mayor, Hannah finds her efforts being sabotaged by an unknown person. Someone is resorting to dangerous and illegal activities in an effort to force her out. Things are rapidly becoming too much to handle, when Hannah learns what it means to become part of the community. Despite the Mayor’s attempts to discredit her, Hannah’s friends rally around to assist her and her animals.
This book is a fun read, and I really enjoyed it! It makes you want to hiss and boo the villains, and cheer for the good guys. This is part of an ongoing storyline, so the plot will be continued in future books, but there is a resolution to this story, so it’s not a cliffhanger.
I am an ARC reader, but the opinions expressed are solely my own.
