Thomas Prescott returns in a smoldering thriller of murder, treachery, and revenge.
His love life in shambles, retired homicide detective Thomas Prescott returns to Seattle, the very place he fled from after his parents’ deaths nearly a decade earlier. Just as Prescott is getting settled in, he sees a body … settled in, he sees a body floating in the private cove behind his boyhood home. It’s a woman. But not just any woman. It’s Ellen Gray—the governor of Washington—who has been missing for the past six weeks.
The lead suspect in the governor’s murder is her husband, famed defense attorney, Adam Gray. But unlike the Seattle Police Department—where Thomas was fired from several years earlier—Prescott has his doubts about Adam’s guilt. Ignoring direct orders to stay away from the case, Prescott soon finds himself drawn into the heart of the investigation.
Working side-by-side with SPD detective, Erica Frost, Prescott uncovers a sophisticated conspiracy linked to a new breed of killer. In his pursuit to catch a madman, Prescott’s investigation will take him from the state capital to the snow-covered peaks of the North Cascades and for the first time in his career, Thomas finds himself both the hunter…and the hunted.

Nick Pirog is my new favorite author, and “Gray Matter is my new favorite book. I adore the charming Thomas Prescott’s, truly authentic wit and humor. His words must be laced with MSG because this book is just delicious, and I gobbled it up much too quickly. A truly fun read! More please!
Nick PIrog has a WICKED and WONDERFUL WIT. Have loved every book Nick Pirog has written. No matter how vile situation is he is able to help me read through it with laughter. His internal dialogue as character(s) progress are hilarious and yet the intrigue and mystery is there. Cannot say enough about Nick Pirog’s approach to anything with …
Felt that this book was a shade above the first in the series. Thomas Prescott escapes back to the family home in Washington where, first day there, he discovers a body below the property (did we expect anything different? ). Said body was identified as the missing governor of the state, whose last name was Gray. Story contains a lot of …
Thoroughly enjoyed and am reading this series.
I am a big fan of Nick Pirog and he didn’t disappoint me this time either. There were times that I was confused by some things that happened in this book, but continued on and am glad I did. He makes things interesting right to the end. I will continue to read all of his books and recommend him to everyone.
Nick Pirog writes in a style that hooks you on the first page. His characters are so real you can’t wait to find out what happens to them. I throughly enjoyed reading his books.
Love it. Read it twice and selected it for my book club. They loved it also.
Nick Pirog is an excellent writer!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters, great story with a lot of twists and surprises and a lot of humor with the main character.
Nothing to do, nothing to read. Picked this book up and was so pleasantly surprised..first time reader of this author, Looking forward to another.
The main chatacter is so sarcastic! This is book 2…better read book 1 to get 1/2 of this, but I loved the twisted look of the Gray cop. The mystery and action keep you guessing until the end.
Well-researched and well-written but rather depressing. Apparently, the genre is not my favorite.
