Thomas Prescott returns in a smoldering thriller of murder, treachery, and revenge.
His love life in shambles, retired homicide detective Thomas Prescott returns to Seattle, the very place he fled from after his parents’ deaths nearly a decade earlier. Just as Prescott is getting settled in, he sees a body … settled in, he sees a body floating in the private cove behind his boyhood home. It’s a woman. But not just any woman. It’s Ellen Gray—the governor of Washington—who has been missing for the past six weeks.
The lead suspect in the governor’s murder is her husband, famed defense attorney, Adam Gray. But unlike the Seattle Police Department—where Thomas was fired from several years earlier—Prescott has his doubts about Adam’s guilt. Ignoring direct orders to stay away from the case, Prescott soon finds himself drawn into the heart of the investigation.
Working side-by-side with SPD detective, Erica Frost, Prescott uncovers a sophisticated conspiracy linked to a new breed of killer. In his pursuit to catch a madman, Prescott’s investigation will take him from the state capital to the snow-covered peaks of the North Cascades and for the first time in his career, Thomas finds himself both the hunter…and the hunted.

Loved how the author got me to care deeply about the main character with a second separate story entwined in the main story.
I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely read more books by this author.
Very good read.
Gray Matter is book 2 of the Thomas Prescott Series. I wasn’t sure what to expect and when I was met with an irreverent, bright protagonist who has a wick, outrageous sense of humor, I was hooked. His mockery is so well-timed and hilarious! The storyline is strong and thoughtful, the writing excellent, and the details excellent. If you like a book …
Twists, turns, fascinating characters, and a convoluted plot create a story that’ll keep you up too late.
A suspenseful thriller with twists and turns that kept my attention and often reading late in the nights. This is a well written great read that I enjoyed right up to the last page. I recommend this book.
Gray Matter is a delightfully witty twisted story. I laughed out loud and was surprised by the twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoy this book.
Would read another book of this author!
I really enjoyed this book. I thought I didn’t like the main characters humor and I guess I still don’t but I’m going to buy more from his collection so everything overrode that. Good read! I must get the next one!
The author had one glaring mistake, but I managed to get over it. (How did the famous attorney not hear about the famous detective who both lived in the same city?). But it was an enjoyable read with some really good parts.
Outstanding author, great sense of humor, had trouble putting it down, finished reading it around 3 am!
Good murder mystery and I enjoyed the humor. Great side story about Harold. And wonderful twist at the end
I liked the book A lot. There were A lot of twists and turns and yet there was an underlying theme that I didn’t like. It bothered me enough that I kept putting the book down and dreading picking it back up. But then again I did pick it up again and again.
The main character was a little over the top with his talking to people.
Great read

Murder and mayhem, love and lust, sarcasm and witticisms, politics and natural enemies–Pirog provides it all. I LIKED this book.
Love this book especially the ending.
Unrealistic. Like Air Force One, but in book form. Main character should have been killed 10x over.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours. I like the concept of the book. Even though it builds on previous experiences for the character (Thomas Prescott) it works as a stand alone book. Nick mixes action and humor well together. It took to near the end before I figured out where the subplot with Harry …
