Zaek is losing hope after waiting centuries for rescue, but the time has finally arrived. The lost emergency beacon has fallen from orbit and gone active. All he needs to do to get off this damn planet named Earth is find it and get to the pick up location in time. The problem? The beacon comes with an addictively confounding, Earthian female who makes his mating gland swell, marking her as his … his true mate. Zaek hasn’t been around a human who didn’t run away screaming monster in a millennium, so how the hell is he supposed to convince this smart, beautiful, sarcastic female to give him the opportunity to win her heart before he loses his chance forever?
Mira has always been obsessed with all things alien, but when one breaks into her lab at Area 51, first contact doesn’t go how she planned. Kidnapped and running for her life with a gruff gargoyle that definitely isn’t made of stone and has more than his share of quirks, Mira learns that sometimes plans are made to be thrown out the window.
With a black ops team hot on their heels, determined to kill or capture them both, time is running out and their fumbling romance isn’t the only thing standing in their way to happiness.

To save her he would give it all
Such a great book! Gargoyles have always been romanticized, but the truth may be more romantic than you think. Big buff guys always in the market for the girl who is meant to be theirs and a ride back to their home world. They may be hard as stone, but that just protects the gooey center hiding from the world. I truly enjoyed the bravery of both the male and female character, their willingness to accept new things and the growing love they have for each other. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This is my favourite of the Khargals of Duras books and a great start to the series. The shower scene still has me laughing a year later. You should definitely read them all!
This is the first book in a new series of standalones all connected by the same storyline but written by a different author.
Zaek is a Khargal General (Gargoyle) stranded on earth with his brethren but living in isolation alone for a millennium.
He and his fellow explorers were stranded while on a mission for resources a long time past.
Mira an orphan works for the government primarily at area 51.
She is tasked with decoding some ancient tech that belongs to Zaek’s people.
When Zaek comes for the device he also finds himself rescuing Mira from her own people as they mistakenly decide she is in cahoots with the alien himself.
When Zaek’s mating gland is flipped declaring her his true mate he will do anything in his power to see her safe and protected.
Zaek was just so edible with his bumbling bashfull cuteness the way he called her his fluffy bunny just made my heart patter.
They were just so adorably curious about each other with there sneaky side glances at each other.
They really were just so delightful together.
I also thought the way that Zaek constantly referred to himself as us and talked to himself all the time a consequence of being alone for aeons just such an endearing trait and Mira herself was a such a tiny power-house and oh so very brave.
I also really appreciated the whole gargoyle appearance.
Gravel and Gritt was such a lovely feel-good story it wasn’t incredibly complicated but it worked.
One thing that did strike me as slightly far-fetched was Mira’s fighting prowess considering her previous lack of experience a few weeks training is not gonna match you with holding off trained government officials but hey ho I just went with the flow despite the unbelieving factor involved.
This one was a sweet easy read that I enjoyed.

This Is What Happens When You Don’t Get Any Social Interaction For Decades
First and foremost, this is actually the second book in the series that I read (I’m on 4 as I write this), and it should be known that the authors (as a collective) do an excellent job of making it so you can read in any order. Technically, all of the books are happening at the same time. So go in any order!
I absolutely adored Zaek. I couldn’t decide whether he had multiple personality disorder or if he just had a severe case of talks to himself (this isn’t a spoiler, you’ll get it in the first chapter), but it certainly made him a lot of fun to read. He made me laugh quite a few times with his not quite in his head antics. I adore how he’s also so gruff and grumpy-it makes Mira all the more awesome for being able to get under that thick hide. He’s got good reason seeing as he a Khargal (a gargoyle) and has to hide himself entirely from human society and can only interact with his own kind.
Mira is your typical genius in that she also lives mostly in her head, but she happens to work for the always shady Area 51 researching alien technology (or supposed at least) and more specifically, Khargal tech. Her character is definitely lovable pretty much from the start. I can see why Zaek couldn’t say no, mating pull or no ;).
The author had a lot of fun with Khargal capabilities as well as the two main characters’ quirks so it was definitely a fun ride from start to finish. There is some drama and a bit of sadness, but overall it really is a feel good read. It is also a very steamy read and very heavy on the romance (which I hope is what you’re looking for if you’re over in this genre) just like the rest of the books. So I highly suggest if you like aliens, gargoyles, amusing leads, steamy scenes, and just a generally awesome romance.
I received a copy through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
Book one in the Khargals of Duras. I have been reading these books out of order and have been enjoying the ones I have read so far, so far though this is the one that held my interest the most. There is suspense, drama, danger, evil people who will kill not only A Khargal but the human woman he kidnaps, there is shooting, attempted murder, and romance. I enjoyed reading Zaek and Mira’s story it fast past and the storyline ran smoothly from page to page.
Zaek has been alone so long since he and the other Khargals crashed landed on earth a thousand years ago.
As a general he out of all the Khargals follows the prime directive to its limit… isolating himself from not only his brothers in arms, but humans and pretty much the whole world.. as a result he talks to himself… a lot…and fears that he is beyond saving…beyond fixing and beyond love.
When the Khargal beacon is activated he knows this isolation much come to an end… he must find the beacon, repair it and get to the rendezvous point! Without raising the human population of his existence or falling head over heals for the fluffy bunny!!
Another thrilling instalment in this shared World Series brought to us by the fantastic Stacy Jones.
Zaek is a true marshmallow man ( he literally has a hard stony outer and big softy innards ) brought to his knees by Mira…a scientist..working for the BAD GUYS..who inadvertently fixed the beacon enough to get it working…Mira has always been interested in space and aliens, working on the alien tech is a chance for her to move up and develop as a scientist…she was expecting a promotion .. not a six foot 8 gargoyles breaking into her lab and ‘rescuing her’.
When this book wasn’t breaking my heart over how Zaek suffered with low self esteem..killing me dead with a truly heart wrenching blossoming ‘love of all time..I was laughing my head off… and gripping my seat with the serious asskicking action that fills this books pages. Which made for an exceptional read.
In true Stacy Jones fashion.. this book hit all the requirements for a fantastic sci fi romance read! ( and yet ANOTHER addition to Bubbles The Book Pimps reverse harem of book boyfriends!)
What a fine story!
It’s full of escapades, discoveries, newfound love, humor (‘fluffy bunny’ indeed!), heartbreaking misunderstandings, battles, and so much more! I loved every second of it – well, there were some teary-eyed moments. Zaek is gobsmacked by the cute little human who was working on the emergency beacon. He manages to ‘rescue’ them both from Area 51. He’s adorable (if you’re not the enemy)! Mira is a super smart lover-of-all-things-alien (now, with a special emphasis on Zaek).
I’m so happy she and Zaek are an item – they each need what the other has to offer. Excellent book!
